Guest93I am OK with the kernel version, I would just like the newest headers, as I can't compile my software, which depends on more recent linux functionality that I upgraded the kernel for.  Is there some kind of package that will let me update those?00:00
oerheksno, upgrade your kernel and you are fine.00:00
Guest93okay then. I guess I should just follow this? : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds00:01
oerheksno, those are for testing only.00:01
Guest93or is there a more recomended way of doing this00:01
oerheksyou say you already have HWE installed, ask your vendowr howto boot into 5.1500:01
Guest93I see. okay. i'll look into that, thanks00:02
oerheksmaybe an admin panel, we don; t know00:02
Guest93so I managed to boot into linux 5.15. However this didn't solve the issue with my headers; I still do not have the correct headers00:13
oerheksdid you install build essentials? that should pull in headers and such00:15
oerheks!build00:15
ubottuCompiling software from source? Read the tips at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CompilingSoftware (But remember to search for pre-built !packages first)00:15
Guest93yes, I have that installed. I just reinstalled "linux-headers-5.15.0-46-generic"00:17
Guest93for some reason, I am still having an issue with <sys/syscall.h> not having definitions for some of the newer linux syscalls00:17
oerheksnobody can answer that, put the output in a pastebin and share?00:18
oerheks!paste00:18

Guest93 error: ‘SYS_pidfd_getfd’ undeclared (first use in this function); did you mean ‘SYS_pidfd_open’?00:18
Guest93its from a program that uses this system call.  (man pidfd_getfd)00:19

Guest93# define SYS_pidfd_send_signal __NR_pidfd_send_signal00:36
oerheks1. use a pastebin for that.00:36
Guest93seems to be some kind of deficiecy in the newest syscall.h, since I have the latest package installed00:36
oerheks2. you share no info what you want to compile, and no output00:37
oerheksso, i go to bed, good luck!00:37
Guest93well, I have given this information: it is a C program that attempts to use this system call. the system headers are missing the SYS_* constant for this syscall00:41

sarahHi, I'm new to Ubuntu. I downloaded an AppImage but it doesn't run. I went into permissions and checked "Allow executing file as a program" but it still doesn't run.02:09
sarahWhat else could I try?02:10
InPhasesarah: Run it from the terminal so you can see the error messages you are probably missing.02:10
sarahhow do I know the name of it to type into the terminal?02:12
InPhaseWell you use "cd" to change to the directory where it is stored.  Then you run it like ./MyDownload.AppImage02:15
InPhasecd is like "cd Downloads" or wherever you put it02:15
InPhaseNote that if it's executable you can usually just type "./MyDo" and then it tab to save some typing.  That will tab complete it for you if that's the only file that starts like that.02:16
InPhaseand then it tab, should be, and then hit tab02:16
