IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Hows the oracle vm package called?01:43
arraybolt3@Oski146: I think you're looking for VirtualBox?01:43
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Thanks thats it, forgot it01:43
arraybolt3(Note that I really don't recommend the use of VirtualBox, but fwiw, that's the name.)01:43
arraybolt3(I far prefer virt-manager or GNOME Boxes, though Boxes can take some practice to make it work just right, while virt-manager seems to just work for me.)01:44
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Ok but i never had problems woth virtual box01:49
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> On ubuntu studio a gnome program? Dont wanna mix up the flavors01:49
arraybolt3@Oski146: Just, for your own sake, don't install untrusted software in a VirtualBox VM. VirtualBox is in the Universe repository, not Main, so it may not receive security updates. QEMU, which virt-manager and GNOME Boxes use, is in the Main repository and should receives reliable security updates.02:12
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Ok which one is the better one then i unonstall virtualbox02:14
arraybolt3virt-manager is probably the best one if you're used to VirtualBox.02:14
arraybolt3(Also, running GNOME software on KDE-based distros isn't a problem. Firefox is a GNOME program.)02:15
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Ok then i will try this :) is it the same?02:15
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Ok i didnt know forefox is gnome software. Because its crossplatform?02:15
enigma9o7[m]Firefox is a GTK program.  Not a gnome program.02:15
arraybolt3enigma9o7[m]: Er, right. But it uses the same underlying stuff.02:15
arraybolt3(Sorry, got a bit mixed up there.)02:15
enigma9o7[m]uses the same toolkit yeah02:16
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Ok thanks for the advise here02:16
arraybolt3@Oski146: It works about the same.02:16
arraybolt3@Oski146 (virt-manager I mean)02:16
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Okay02:17
arraybolt3@Oski146: It should be very intuitive, especially if you're used to VirtualBox. I went straight from VBox to virt-manager all at once and was able to get started immediately.02:17
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Virt manager installed now on the machine02:17
arraybolt3@Oski146: You will have to log out and log back in before it starts working right.02:17
arraybolt3enigma9o7[m]: Thanks for the correction, you're right. Saying Firefox is a GNOME program is kinda like saying that Qt applications are KDE programs. Related, but not the same.02:19
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Its not that pretty program, but it should do the same like virtualbox02:20
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Its sad that youtube-dl is not working anymore with the gui02:20
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Can i have help with thunderbolt 3 support?02:22
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> The thunderbolt subsystem is not available.02:23
arraybolt3@Oski146: Sure, but you may have more luck if you switch to IRC chat and ask for help in #ubuntu, since they support Ubuntu Studio and are much more active. (This room doesn't actually support Ubuntu Studio - it's similar to Kubuntu, but not the same.)02:23
IrcsomeBot<Oski146> Ok thanks, i will go there02:24
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> Hello Every One,06:45
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> I have one issue in my kubuntu 22 installed laptop06:46
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> what sometimes happens is that when i turn on my laptop then the touchpad doesn't work properly,06:46
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> the horizontal motion of the touchpad works fine but the vertical motion of the touch pad doesn't work properly06:47

IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> but if I leave the laptop on charge for some time then and then restart it, then it starts working properly06:48
IrcsomeBot<a_k_s_27> can anyone suggest me about what should I do as a solution to this problem06:49
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Whenever I connect my WiFi it pops up this notification saying;08:47
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes>  "An update download is pending on Firefox, quit the app to avoid disruption"08:47
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Something like this08:47
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> I've checked through the list of updates in order to download that single one manually but can't find a particular one for Firefox08:48
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> What do I do next08:48
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Firefox is my main browser and don't want it to crash in any way08:48
IrcsomeBot<Omar> I hope so (re @PJtunes: I've not really tried charging my phone with my PC though, just transfers09:02
IrcsomeBot<Omar> I don't really have any idea about it for kubuntu, windows allow it though09:02
IrcsomeBot<Omar> It should be possible on Kubuntu, maybe)09:02
BluesKajHi all12:33
IrcsomeBot<Omar> is kubuntu focus the same as kubuntu ?13:08
BluesKaj@Omar https://kfocus.org/13:13
mparilloKubuntu Focus is hardware plus Kubuntu optimized for that hardware (and their use cases). For more, follow the link from BluesKaj13:14
BluesKaj'morning mparillo13:15
IrcsomeBot<Omar> If i installed it in my dell laptop will it be better than kubuntu ? (re @IrcsomeBot: <mparillo> Kubuntu Focus is hardware plus Kubuntu optimized for that hardware (and their use cases). For more, follow the link from BluesKaj)13:35
BluesKaj@Omar, I don't know...never used kubuntu focus .. think it's mostly used by developers13:38
Matt55I installed neofetch and the Ubuntu logo showed up instead of Kubuntu. Is there any way to fix this? I'm guessing it's because I did the minimal install14:24
leaftypecould be. I'm on the desktop version and it shows the kubuntu logo14:27
leaftypelet me poke around a bit14:27
leaftypeyou installed ubuntu minimal?14:29
oerheksneofetch --ascii_distro kubuntu14:29
leaftypeoerheks: that displays it differently, but it doesn't change what it thinks it's supposed to be14:30
leaftype(just tried)14:31
leaftypemight want to check here: https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-display-system-information-with-neofetch14:32
jjshttps://github.com/dylanaraps/neofetch/blob/master/neofetch14:33
jjsLine 1131 seems to be related to your question.14:34
leaftypeif you go to ~/.config/neofetch , there is a config file. You can change whatever you want there14:34
jjslooks like it is searching for a specific environment variable configuration to tell ubuntu/kubuntu apart.14:34
Matt55alright14:37
Matt55I fixed the ASCII art, although neofetch still says I use Ubuntu in the OS section. I guess it doesn't matter too much.14:42
leaftypethat depends on what you want. If you just want the ascii art change, you just chagne the ascii art. If you want it to display a different OS, you tell it to display a different OS14:42
leaftypeIf you want it to be accurate, maybe install kubuntu rather than ubuntu minimal :)14:43
Matt55I installed Kubuntu minimal actually, I just thought it would install less applications like libreoffice14:45

mmikowski@RikMills @Eickmeyer Nate recommends a 5.98 respin: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45918819:13
RikMillsmmikowski: ack and thanks!19:25
mmikowskiYou're welcome @RikMills. Also, sending 5.98 test results shortly. 5.24.6 + 5.98.0 looks good from multiple tests, as discussed before. Will cc NateG19:27
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Any answer to this pls (re @PJtunes: Whenever I connect my WiFi it pops up this notification saying;21:23
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes>  "An update download is pending on Firefox, quit the app to avoid disruption"21:23
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Something like this)21:23
arraybolt3@PJtunes: Close Firefox and run "sudo snap refresh" in a terminal, that will force Firefox to update. However, right now, Canonical is having some serious server problems, so you might not actually be able to update Firefox until they fix it. They're working on it.21:25
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Ok thank you22:03
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Pls do let us know when it's fixed...22:03
arraybolt3@PJtunes: I think it's fixed now.22:04
arraybolt3@PJtunes: Yep, Snap appears to be back up and running.22:05
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Ok22:08
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> I'll try updating it then22:08
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> And also22:09
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Been trying to change the PC default user to mine and also change the password but it's not working out22:09
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Still can't figure out what's wrong22:09
arraybolt3@PJtunes: Is your user an administrator?22:10
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Yes22:10
arraybolt3@PJtunes: That's weird. Not sure how to fix that. Maybe someone else here will know.22:11
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Okayy22:12
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> If I end up not updating the Firefox before the 13days it stated, will Firefox crash on my PC?? (re @IrcsomeBot: <arraybolt3> @PJtunes: That's weird. Not sure how to fix that. Maybe someone else here will know.)22:14
arraybolt3@PJtunes: I don't know. I think it will try to force the update through despite Firefox still being open, which may cause it to crash.22:14
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Ohh ok22:15
IrcsomeBot<PJtunes> Thanks!22:15
mmikowski@PJtunes if you are around, I can probably help with System Settings > Users, if that's where you are having trouble. Or are you using CLI?23:14
IrcsomeBot<Lucy> Shall we talk?)23:18
