[13:27] I have a question regarding geforce rtx 3060. Currently I have kubuntu 22.04 and on my acer nitro 5 laptop with has rtx 3060mobile (as a laptop) gpu i am trying to connect to external display with hdmi, however no video signal error appears, any ideas? [14:01] skir, run xrandr in the terminal to check if the monitor is listed [14:01] nop, not listed [14:01] i tried that using manjaro, kubuntu, ubuntu etc ;D [14:06] check this out, never used it myself but it might help in your case https://kfocus.org/wf/displays.html [14:06] thank you! [14:07] thank me if it works :-) [14:08] in the display settings, i can not find external monitor [14:08] and my external monitor does not show any indicators that it's been connected to pc [14:08] i was thinking this is issue due to rtx 3060 gpu [14:09] and nvidia closed drivers [14:09] my focus has a RTX 3060 and the HDMI -> external monitor works, but only with Nvidia [14:09] hmm interesting [14:09] does nvidia still supply a gui/settings? [14:09] is your rtx 3060 stationary or laptop? [14:10] laptop [14:10] i am not sure about gui [14:10] gotcha RikMills [14:10] perhaps do you have acer nitro 5? [14:10] skir: nope. by focus I mean I have this: https://kfocus.org/spec/spec-m2.html [14:11] also, i am thinking about buying extra 1tb ssd to boost only kubuntu. [14:11] okay, got it. [14:11] gotta go, see u later! [14:11] thanks for the help [14:22] On my Lenovo Legion laptop, the HDMI port is tied directly discrete graphics card and does not work unless On-demand or NVidia (Performance Mode) PRIME profiles are selected (NVidia Setting menu or prime-select from command line). [14:23] same [14:29] @DarinMiller RikMills : That means that your Nvidia chipset "owns" your HDMI ports and your intel graphics cannot access the hdmi ports alone. [14:30] Imagine in a desktop computer the HDMI ports on a Nvidia PCI card vs the ones on the mainboard. The mainboard ones would be your integrated graphics, while your PCI ones would be your Nvidia ones. [14:30] Similar situation. [14:30] Correct, but in my case the integrated graphics are AMD. 😊 [14:31] @DarinMiller Yeah, semantics. :) [14:33] no more nvidia added graphics here. the intel onboard graphics work great on my HDMI connected large screen tv [14:35] actually display port to HDMI adapter cable :-) [14:36] BluesKaj: There's good reason for having Nvidia graphics, not only for gaming performance, but also for deep machine learning and for artificial intelligence-based workflows. That's something that intel CPUs with integrated graphics can't do efficiently on their own. [14:36] Been asking for help on my headphone port not recognizing, and I'm pretty sure it's a driver problem. [14:36] I'll be really grateful if one can assist me on this, I've tried so many options [14:36] I'm running kubuntu 22.04 [14:37] Eickmeyer[m], no kidding, but I'm a user not on the job or a dev so... [14:38] BluesKaj: Right, but there's a lot of detractors. :) [14:38] @PJTunes: Have you tried other channels for help? If you open Konversation and type "/join #ubuntu" they might be able to help too. It's likely not a driver problem. [14:40] @PJtunes: The reason I say this is because if you're not getting an answer it's because nobody in here likely knows the answer. [14:41] Ok I'll check this (re @IrcsomeBot: @PJTunes: Have you tried other channels for help? If you open Konversation and type "/join #ubuntu" they might be able to help too. [14:41] Oh yh [14:41] Alright I understand (re @IrcsomeBot: @PJtunes: The reason I say this is because if you're not getting an answer it's because nobody in here likely knows the answer.) [14:41] @PJtunes, which audio chip? [14:44] joining #ubuntu means you need to use a normal irc client [14:44] PulseAudio [14:44] Headphone device (re @IrcsomeBot: @PJtunes, which audio chip?) [14:46] pulse is an app, run aplay -l in the terminal for playback device(s) [14:46] To enable sound on my Lenovo Laptop, I had to use a 5.18 kernel (or newer) and the pipewire ppa with wireplumber.
