cry0xenguiver c simple comment killed my lxqt/lubuntu interest - https://www.reddit.com/r/Lubuntu/comments/xr8bvi/im_running_vanilla_lubuntu_20045_on_an_ancient/iqg7nxu/19:29
daftykinsseems fair comment to me, if it's a chore to run Lubuntu already - stop using lemons19:30
cry0xenunless the whole environment uses/made from the same toolkit no matter how hard i try is it even possible to run a leaner day to day pc lightweight?19:31
daftykinsno mention of specs, tough to comment19:31
daftykinsthe days when Linux polished up old systems and made them viable again are long gone to my mind19:32
arraybolt3cry0xen: That's just how computers work. It will be the same on Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Windows, etc.19:32
arraybolt3cry0xen: If you use lots of GNOME apps, Xubuntu might work better for you, if you use Qt apps, Lubuntu is the way. If you use lots of both, then it's probably up to you, I would suspect Lubuntu to be lighter, but I could be wrong.19:33
cry0xenarraybolt3: exactly and both qt and gtk are important 19:34
cry0xenin regards to application19:35
daftykinsnot really both at once19:35
daftykinshttps://www.theregister.com/2022/08/18/ubuntu_remixes/19:35
cry0xenand gtk is moving from 2 then 3 may be 4 after 5 what will happen to the apps19:35
arraybolt3Either one should be waaaay lighter than Ubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, or even Kubuntu.19:35
cry0xenlxde is kinda dead19:36
cry0xeni am using xubuntu and xubuntu using vlc(qt i think) gimp (gtk) libreoffice (somethiing else i dunno) thats 3 different system19:37
arraybolt3LibreOffice can integrate with either Qt or GTK.19:38
cry0xenu understand what i meant19:38
cry0xenall the hypes about DE and its hard to find a polished video player19:39
cry0xenvlc had network issue and ive gone through everyone of them from arch manual19:39
daftykinsif your hardware is so bad, likely it's hardware decode support that will be making playback a sub-optimal experience19:40
daftykinsor rather the LACK of hardware decode support19:40
cry0xenits an answer from an angle. ive gone through amd k6 2/3 i dunno then celeron then pentium then dual core, then core 2 duo and i am stuck at core 2 quad cause it runs. i slapped an ssd and ironwolf nas with antec it still runs smooth as butter. office provide me with a mac and i dont play games. whats with the hardware race?19:44
cry0xenanyway its just some things that was going through my mind19:45
daftykinsgreed probably, pop in a capable graphics card with video decode support though and there'd be a lot to gain, depends what you do19:45
cry0xendaftykins as for wheather my pc could run the hevc 265 2gigs streams or not ... potplayer mpc-hc* kmplayer and vlc on windows ran smooth as butter.19:47
cry0xen*12 gigs 19:47
daftykinsthey would not have magically enabled you to do anything other than software decode depending on what graphics card you have19:48
daftykinsmore often than not our old friend Ms. Configuration could have a part to play19:48
cry0xeni am new to this so if you can help me or point me toward right direction i am all ears19:49
daftykinssorry, i don't agree with your decisions so i don't wish to enable them19:51
cry0xen@arraybolt3[m]: is there any website that list qt, gtk apps separately?19:55
arraybolt3[m]cry0xen: Not that I19:58
arraybolt3[m]I'm aware of.19:58
daftykinsi mean if you install via terminal you see what junk a program wants to pull in, then you can bail if necessary20:00
cry0xeni think i found one for qt apps - https://wiki.manjaro.org/index.php/List_of_Qt_Applications20:02
daftykinsor just look at the dependencies of a package20:02
cry0xenyeah i understand that. thats what i did past few days20:03
JanCwith APT, Synaptic, etc. you can search for dependencies...20:23
