[07:06] hello [07:06] i have a 250 gb ssd, on a desktop in my lan with a xeon e3 1270. [07:07] i downloaded ubuntu server 22.04, flashed a usb stick with that iso. [07:08] i boot from the usb stick on the machine start the install . [07:08] It is giving me the error that it can't install the grub [07:08] installing xubuntu desktop works [07:09] please help [07:10] pastebin the errors you getting and share with this channel slave_blocker [07:10] how? [07:11] put the logs to another usb stick? [07:11] slave_blocker: That would work. [07:12] is that option available during the install? [07:13] could it be that i activated "native hdd instead of ahci in the bios? [07:14] slave_blocker: Hmm, actually I don't know exactly how that works. You might be able to drop to a terminal to extract the logs (try pressing Ctrl+Alt+F3). [07:17] could it be that i activated "native hdd instead of ahci in the bios?" and thats why it is not working? [07:17] Like Intel RST? [07:17] Yeah, Intel RST could cause problems. [07:18] ? [07:18] ok i will change it to ahci on the internal peripherals on the sata i dont know what [07:19] ommmm [07:28] so [07:29] i deleted all partitions delete unmount bla bla [07:29] i created / with 230 gigs and there is one /boot/efi that was required [07:29] am i missing something? [07:29] waiting [07:30] changed native hdd to ahci [07:32] /boot/efi is normal. [07:33] You should have at least /boot/efi, /, and maybe some others, but at least those two. [07:33] great [07:33] thanks for the reply [07:34] so [07:34] the install failed again [07:35] i dropped to a terminal [07:35] What is the exact error message? [07:35] where is the log so i can copy it [07:35] Try "ls /var/log" and that might show you those things. [07:35] /var/log/syslog might have interesting info. [07:39] syslog has lots of stuff in it [07:44] https://pastebin.com/7q0Qx2k3 [07:44] i saw windowse there somewhere [07:44] kill hates was spotted [07:44] only saying [07:45] Eh, that looks like the problem, but the meaning of the error is beyond me. Hopefully someone here will be able to decipher it. [07:46] there is not one drop of windowse on that ssd [07:46] i ran dd if /dev/zero on the entire thing [07:47] just another question [07:47] do nvme's run directly on pci x4? [07:47] Windows Boot Manager is something in the firmware, if I'm understanding correctly. It shouldn't affect your ability to run Ubuntu. [07:48] I don't know for a certainty if NVMe's run directly on PCIe x4 or not, but I *think* so. [07:48] well i installed xubuntu desktop on it [07:48] all good [07:48] i have no idea what im doing in the partition manager [07:48] boot efis and stuff [07:49] im a noob in partitions [07:49] /boot/efi is where your bootloader will install to, / is where the rest of the system goes. [07:49] when it gets to that he is making 100 gb [07:49] on one partition [07:49] dont know why [07:49] What are the settings you're installing Ubuntu Server with? [07:50] i deleted that then [07:50] And what version of Ubuntu Server is this? [07:50] ubuntu-22.04.1-live-server-amd64.iso [07:51] minimal install [07:51] only ssh server selected [07:52] and i let the lvm thing selected [07:52] now its halting at grub install [07:52] as a side note my bios seems sort of funky [07:53] sometimes it does not recognize the hard drives [07:53] Hmm, that might be the problem, perhaps your firmware is being problematic. [07:53] Try installing without LVM and see how that works, maybe? Xubuntu doesn't use LVM as far as I know. [07:53] ok [07:54] the only problem for me is that the fucking fan of the graphics card is too loud for a sunday [07:54] but hey [07:54] lets ommmm [07:54] it away [08:00] im going out to the recycling point its installing again [08:00] brb [08:27] it failed agian [08:27] i have the install log from the crash [08:28] slave_blocker, please watch your language. thanks [08:29] oh ok [08:29] sorry [08:30] is there a pastebin that accepts huge amounts of data [08:30] ? [08:39] here is the error of my install [08:39] https://pastebin.com/jPedYx96 [08:39] please help [08:39] thanks [09:29] slave_blocker: That doesn't look right, that looks like some early initialization data. Maybe you only pasted part of the file? [09:30] is there a pastebin that accepts huge amounts of data ? [09:30] slave_blocker: Not that I'm aware of, can you pastebin a solid chunk from the end of the file?
