IrcsomeBot | <Anarchotaoist> Translucency STUCK! I have been trying to theme Plasma on a new machine. I replicated the theme on another - but transparency is over the top. I have taken everthing back to the Kubuntu theme, turned off blur and transparency in settings, uninstalled Kvantum -and rebooted. This resolves much of the issues - but Application Dashboard Launcher is still transparent. How can I reset this?? | 10:05 |

myrti | Hi, I recently upgraded to kubuntu 22.04 and now my tlp settings seem to no longer be respected. In particular I'm trying to set a maximum battery charge of 80%, which seems to be recognized by the system but not applied. The power applet says the maximum charge should be 80% but the battery is always charged to 99%: https://i.imgur.com/kPclXhO.png | 15:56 |
myrti | If I look at the tlp-stat it's a similar picture: https://pastebin.com/zbckhefk | 15:58 |
Blohsh | hi does kubuntu support realtek 8821CE by default? | 16:08 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Not sure, lemme look. | 16:41 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: It probably won't work out of the box, however the driver for it is in Ubuntu's repositories. | 16:42 |
Blohsh | my laptop does not have ethernet port thats another prob | 16:42 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Basically what that means is, install Kubuntu, connect it to the Internet without WiFi (you can use a phone hotspot for this), then run "sudo apt install rtl8821ce-dkms". | 16:42 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Hmm... ok that may be a problem. | 16:43 |
arraybolt3 | Are you able to tether to your phone over USB? | 16:43 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: If you can't, I can send you a download link to the driver and you can try and install it manually. | 16:44 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Also what version of Kubuntu are you trying to install? | 16:45 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: If you're using Kubuntu 22.04 (Jammy), here's the driver: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rtl8821ce/5.5.2.1-0ubuntu10/+build/23538768/+files/rtl8821ce-dkms_5.5.2.1-0ubuntu10_all.deb | 16:47 |

Blohsh | arraybolt3, thank you i'll test when i get on system :) | 17:40 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Make sure to tell it to install proprietary drivers during installation so that DKMS hopefully gets installed, that's important for that driver to work. | 17:41 |
Blohsh | noted | 17:42 |

Betablockr | Hi, is Kubuntu updated the same time as normal Ubuntu is? for example when the next feature release or LTS release comes out does Kubuntu get it the same day? | 20:27 |
mmikowski | Betablockr: usually yes | 20:27 |
Betablockr | When you say usually, has there been times in the past when this has not been the case? | 20:28 |
mmikowski | Not that I can recall | 20:28 |
Betablockr | So the main question, is it better the get Kubuntu or run Ubuntu with KDE manually installed? | 20:29 |
mmikowski | Betablockr: the result is the same. both use ubuntu repos. | 20:29 |
Betablockr | Ahh may as well main Kubuntu then! Perfect thank you so much! | 20:29 |
Betablockr | Oh last thing! Is there a way to install the open-kernel nvidia 520 driver on Kubuntu? | 20:31 |
Betablockr | So far I only see 515 in the list | 20:31 |
mmikowski | Yes, apt install nvidia-drivers-520 | 20:31 |
Betablockr | Awesome, thank you! | 20:32 |
mmikowski | you're welcome! | 20:33 |
Blohsh | arraybolt3, are all drivers automatically installed from update center? | 21:11 |
arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Most of them, there are some drivers that need to be manually installed from the archive but almost all drivers Just Work out of the box. | 22:10 |
arraybolt3 | Once they're installed, though, they will automatically update. | 22:10 |
Blohsh | arraybolt3, i have i7 10th gen from asus 14" | 22:18 |
Blohsh | no idea if that will be compatible with kubuntu | 22:18 |
Blohsh | but ill test out | 22:18 |
IrcsomeBot | <Anarchotaoist> Latte Dock is falling apart at the edges. It no longer has a maintainer. 😞 (re @milesdredd08: now i want to totally shift on wayland , what should i do ??? | 22:26 |

arraybolt3 | Blohsh: Definitely worth a shot. Sounds to me like it should work. | 22:27 |
