WaVFYI, theres a BIOS update that was rolled out for my Laptop via the "Updates" tab of the Ubuntu Software application that caused my laptop to boot straight into Windows and bypass the grub bootloader. I don't know if this is a bug or intended. I got it working, but just wanted to let someone know.01:03

squarecirclebut I set the dns to 9.9.9.9, to exclude dns fuckup in my router22:01
squarecircleits an very weird situation - a new P14s, and neither Ubuntu nor Debian (stable/testing) run on this machine, in combination with my home network22:02
Jeremy31squarecircle: run the 2 commands @ https://gist.github.com/jeremyb31/a2bee9856d8c13f42f1835bc31bf9480 in terminal and post the termbin URL after the second command is done22:02
squarecirclehttps://termbin.com/9sv922:06
squarecirclethis is quite the invasive script22:08
squarecirclebut I appreciate the authors intent to atleast hide the mac addresses :)22:10
squarecircleravage: don't know, how it affects my ethernet network, if its disabled?22:13
squarecircleJeremy31: and?22:13
squarecirclething is: https://bpa.st/IRAQ22:14
ravagesquarecircle, so your ethernet has problems too?22:14
Jeremy31squarecircle: You might want to edit network connection to set IPv6 to disabled22:15
squarecircleI don't even know, why it just fails for some seconds, like 40 seconds timeout, then works fine, better on ethernet, then on wifi22:15
sarnold20% packet loss, 14 errors, ouch22:15
squarecircleJeremy31: I'll give it a try22:15
ravagecan you ping 192.168.178.1 for a while?22:16
squarecircleravage: sure22:16
ravagebut the error message really looks like it is a local problem22:16
Jeremy31squarecircle: wifi power management is enabled, in terminal>  sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf && sudo iwconfig wlp3s0 power off22:16
squarecircleIts only this machine, my T460, X200s, X220i, all work perfectly fine22:17
squarecircleJeremy31: how does the wifi power management influences the ethernet controller?22:17
Jeremy31It doesn't but should help the wifi work22:18
squarecirclehmm, ravage I got connection loss to the router the same moment als I couldnt ping quad9 anymore22:23
ravagesquarecircle, did you have that problem since you installed it? or did you install it today?22:25
squarecircleravage: since the moment I first installed Debian on it22:25
squarecircleravage: I first tried Debian testing, and now trying Ubuntu22:25
ravagethose are totally different kernels too22:25
ravagereally strange22:25
squarecircleyup22:26
squarecirclewhich lets me think, its the machine, thats broken22:26
ravagedo you maybe have a way to connect another computer directly 1:1 and see if you still get problems with a static ip on both sides?22:26
squarecirclebecause other machines with a zoo of different OSes work fine22:26
ravagei mean you could try the evil OS on it. just to use the OS it usually works on22:27
ravageand to rule out a hardware problem22:27
squarecircleOr this special machine with this special router - I did use the machine in another network - I cant remember any problems22:29
squarecirclewhich gets me wondering22:29
ravagethen a direct connection to another computer should work22:29
Jeremy31squarecircle: Have you restarted the router?22:29
ravageor you can also try to ping another client on your network22:30
ravagethat at least only demands switching from the router22:30
squarecircleJeremy31: I'll do it22:30
ravagereboot is always a good idea22:31
lenswipehey folks22:37
lenswipejust installed a new ubuntu desktop and the built in webcam (laptop) isn't working in cheese22:38
lenswipeare there some drivers i can install or something22:38
squarecircleswitched the router for the old one, that was switched out, two weeks ago22:38
squarecirclethat would be hilarious though, if the new router would be the problem xD22:39
daedricWouldn't be the first time...22:40
crax23lenswipe, if it doesn't work out of the box, it will be annoying, you got to try with 'lsusb' or 'lspci' to see what webcam it is, and look online on the ubuntu forum if someone got it working. You need to check what model/chipset it is, then you'd probably have to build drivers yourself which is not so fun.22:43
evils[m]hi, my dad pressed ok on the pop-up to update his 20.04 to 22.04 and now his machine boots into emergency mode22:49
evils[m]logging in in emergency mode and doing systemctl default yields the following22:50
evils[m]Failed to start default.target: Transaction for graphical.target/start is destructive (emergency.target has 'start' job queued, but 'stop' is included in transaction.22:50

squarecircleok, router reset to factory settings, resetup with telco settings, now its time to wait :)22:54
lenswipecrax23, oh boy22:58

daedriccompletly locked ?23:34
FNAShinobiYes, no mouse, keyboard, I have to reset23:34
FNAShinobiIs there a decent log utility? This gnome logs is useless23:35
