[00:08] Nice [00:08] Good luck! [02:36] The Ubuntu Server install barfs when trying to find an installable partition. [02:36] Good news, though, is that my Ubuntu Desktop install is now working (for certain values of "work"). [02:37] Turns out that yes, Ubuntu isn't happy when Debian generates a Grub entry for it. [02:40] I installed Grub into my MBR from Ubuntu, hacked away at the resulting brokenness until I could get a clean Ubuntu boot, and voilĂ , a working desktop (at 1280x768 resolution and only one screen up and running). [02:40] Next step is to figure out how to fix the screen issues. [02:41] Gotta say, I'm not really loving Ubuntu at the moment. [02:48] yipes [02:56] Isn't Wayland supposed to be default for Ubuntu now? [04:23] Not sure. [04:30] Ok, this is nice: Ubuntu will only load GNOME at whatever resolution Grub is configured to use. [04:31] I'm tempted to nuke the Ubuntu LV at this point and either install GNOME on my existing Debian install or install Debian to a fresh LV. [04:44] Wondering if there's some wonkiness with both on the same drive [04:44] I'd go with Ubuntu as base and Debian as a VM, frankly [04:45] but I'm more a fan of VMs than dual-booting [04:45] I don't really want to kill my existing install until I feel confident about its replacement. [04:47] The screen problems might be an nvidia issue. I'm seeing posts about low resolution on Ubuntu when using the proprietary driver. My next step will likely be to switch to nouveau and see if that works. [04:51] Alright, gonna give it another go right now. [04:52] noveau should work but it's dog slow [15:48] btw: I'm using Delta Chat. If you can guess my gmail address you may feel free to add me on there. [17:30] I finally got Ubuntu working. It looks like the Nvidia proprietary drivers were only partially installed. I had to fully install them while at the same time not installing a ton of i386 packages that nvidia-driver-390 was wanting to pull in. [17:31] Nice! [17:31] Strangely, the GPU temperature is nice and cool. (With Debian and my old Quadro, the proprietary drivers had my card running 20 or 30 C hotter than nouveau.) [17:33] I'm in Debian right now because I need to install a bunch of apps, and I'm not sure yet how to configure weechat to use SASL and all that goodness. [17:34] My next step is to get weechat working in Debian (where I can see what a working quassel config looks like), then move the config over to Ubuntu. [17:46] cool [17:54] I might have to adjust the font on my terminal, too. For some reason GNOME terminal takes up a lot more screen real estate than Konsole. [17:56] Yeah, I use ubuntu mono 9 iirc [17:56] ubuntu mono 11 [17:56] But the default is really large [17:56] You can save the profile as a default so everything uses it
