I tried to use gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri 'file:///home/odile/.local/share/applgsettingsications/xfce4/backdrops/Lighthouse.jpg'

[18:53] <krytarik> Well, that's because you only select the folder in that dialog.  And Xfce and its components are using Xfconf rather than gsettings.

[19:55] <krytarik> I'd strongly recommend against trying to fiddle with the Xfconf files manually, because to begin with you can't do that from within a running session - otoh you could use xfce4-settings-editor or xfconf-query both of which talk to the settings daemon.
