masterlubuntuHey everyone, complete noob here. I actually have no idea what this app/program is or does, I suppose it came pre-installed with either the lubuntu I installed on my project or the ubuntu studio installer I added to it ???  Anyways, I just wanted to say Hello before I read up on the policies and regulations, got to keep myself out of trouble, I will talk back when I have completed the boring stuff.00:21
Eickmeyer[m]masterlubuntu: You must've opened Quassel, that's the chat program pre-installed on both Lubuntu *and* Ubuntu Studio. It took you here, which is the Ubuntu support channel. Feel free to ask questions if you need general help, or /join #lubuntu if you need help with your desktop, or /join #ubuntustudio if you need help with the Ubuntu Studio stuff.00:23
masterlubuntuThank you very much.#ubuntustudio is where I assume I need to go as the project I am working on is related to Music/Video Recording and maybe eventually Production. Thank you again for pointing me in the right direction.00:26
Eickmeyer[m]masterlubuntu: Sure, but you might get redirected again as it's not a very active channel.00:27
bumblefuzzcan anyone help me with ufw rules00:27

bumblefuzznothing seems to work00:30
bumblefuzzI'm actually amazed it's this dificult00:30
masterlubuntuOk, I dont suppose you know of any better options, AV linux, Ubuntu studio where the ones that seam to come up the most when web serching for operating systems dedicated to Music recording/producing. I am mostly interested in recording myself with a guitar and I am not trying to make albums or anything. Its just a hobby but I would like the audio and video quality to be good.00:33
Eickmeyer[m]masterlubuntu: Since the topic is support, and that's not a support question, that's off-topic, so sorry, you'd have to ask somewhere else. Ubuntu Studio is what I'm partial to.00:34
masterlubuntuthanx00:34
WaVbumblefuzz: sudo ufw allow from x.x.x.x to 192.168.1.your_interface_here port 1234 proto tcp00:51

cartdrigeupgrade-issues, here is a suggestion of what i would do, not to be bugged out and waste time: backup your /home folders, do quick reinstall from a USB live, and reinstall the apps, you can get your full list of apps using: dpkg --get-selections > my-installed-app ; then reinstall them automaticly, there is also another solution to quickly do that but i don't remember it.02:25
cartdrigeBut maybe someone else will help you, for fixing that issue instead. good luck.02:25

elyograghello all.  I am trying to report something with ubuntu-bug.  It opens chrome to a page that says it will refresh every 10 seconds until processing is complete, but never changes.  I let it sit like that for an hour yesterday, it never got to the part where it asks for a bug summary.  Ubuntu Server 22.04 on amd64.05:14

tomathoHello, I'm having troubles with Ubuntu 22 LTS. Very often after waking up my laptop from a sleep, it shows login screen for ~ 10 seconds, then it turns out completely black with blinking carret, and after several minutes it again show login screen, but then, all aps is closed.09:14
tomathoit seems like a reboot, but I think it's not. because docker container list shows containers which was run.09:14
tomathoI don't know where to start, because ubuntu-bug asks pckg name with bug.09:15
tomathoCan someone tell me where to start troubleshooting. Keep in mind that I have reverse engeneering skills, I know PC architecture, and understand C/C++, x68_64 assembly.09:16

rob0If your sshd service is enabled, you can ssh in from a locally connected host, and then check the logs.09:22
tomathodo I need to be connected while this happening? because after login it works just fine. perhaps I can just check this stuff from this laptop itself?09:25

RaimondRajhow to list  list the contents of /etc/apt/sources.list.d ?11:39
raubRaimondRaj: "ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d"11:40
RaimondRajhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/RxB8Vxpm57/11:40
ograraub, (i didnt see that answered above) for per-user overrides you copy the .desktop file from /usr/share/applications (or /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/ for snap packages) into ~/local/share/applications/ and edit them there ... that will apply a local overrdie11:41
raubRaimondRaj: also, "cat /etc/os-release"11:41
tomreynraub: because it is listed in /etc/hosts, which sudo refers when interpreting sudoers11:41
raubogra: Thanks. Lemme try it11:42
RaimondRajhttps://paste.ubuntu.com/p/jHp7ykym7K/11:42
tomreyn(in response to <raub> But why is it barking when he tries to sudo?)11:42
NickHIn my experience it's usually better to use something like "xgd-desktop-menu install foo.desktop" instead of manually copying the .desktop file.11:43
rauboerheks: I think he should move the kitware repo files somewhere save (/root?) and then try the upgrade again. Thoughts?11:44
raubNickH: Noted. FYI, my endgame is to be able to push the config using ansible11:44
RaimondRaji dont how does kitware is11:45
raubRaimondRaj: I do not know either. Is this a production server?11:46
RaimondRajThis is Kitware, Inc.'s third-party APT repository, which we use for hosting our own Ubuntu packages, such as CMake.11:46
RaimondRajno11:46
raubRaimondRaj: all I know is that its public keys are boink11:46
RaimondRaji buy a shell give my 2 frn to buil my irc server11:46
RaimondRajthey created then disappear no news at all11:47
RaimondRaji try to learn from website and mainten my server11:47
ograwow, lots of PPAs ... you must be having a lot of trust giving so many people root on your server (PPAs give the PPA owner full root access to your machine)11:47
raubRaimondRaj: "they created then disappear no news at al" your firends or kitware?11:47
RaimondRaji dont how does empty website get phising11:47

RaimondRajno news also11:48
RaimondRaji keep begging so many of them not much people help me11:48
raubRaimondRaj: maybe you need to figure out what you want to do with server11:48
RaimondRajits a just simple chat server of mine11:48
raubAnd what is installed in it right now11:48
RaimondRaji load my bot in and just stay enjoy11:49
raubThat is a lot of PPAs/repos for a chat server11:49
raubRaimondRaj: It just seems a lot of crap for a chat server. FYI, I run my chat *client*, as in what I am using right now, in a docker container I did not need to add any extra repos and am doing irc and slack (most of the time only these two guys) just fine.11:51
raubRaimondRaj: which chat server did you install?11:51
RaimondRajunrealircd and anope11:53

tomreynRaimondRaj: sakthimedia.org is not a registered domain name.12:16

RaimondRaji have my own domain but no hosting12:16
tomreynwell, all i know is that /etc/hostname should point to a hostname, that is resolvable.12:17
tomreynand it currectly doesn't12:17
RaimondRajtomreyn : sakthimedia.org get suspended coz phising and i just ask them o discotinue it12:17
RaimondRajtomreyn : yes12:18
tomreynokay, i understand. but that's not really solving the issue on this system12:18
RaimondRajmight be12:18
tomreynyou can make any hostname you put in /etc/hostname resolvable by overriding the dns resolver by placing a fixed resolution in /etc/hosts12:19
RaimondRajpleawse guide me on this12:19
tomreynwhich hostname doe you want to put? it should not include dots.12:20
RaimondRaji have domain : raimondraj.com12:20
RaimondRaji have no idea12:20
RaimondRajplease let me know if any12:21
tomreynare you able to manage the authoritative dns for the raimondraj.com zone?12:21
RaimondRajzone12:21
tomreynwhat do you mean?12:21
RaimondRaj<tomreyn> are you able to manage the authoritative dns for the raimondraj.com zone?12:22
RaimondRajwithout hosting can we make authoritative dns12:22
tomreynwell, normally we just do ubuntu support here, not explaining the internet12:23
RaimondRaji hvae raimondraj.com at hostinger.com12:23
RaimondRajyes tomreyn12:23
tomreynso i assume you have this vps and you have this domain name registered at hostinger and can edit its dns records.12:24
RaimondRajthink so12:24
tomreynand this is your first vps and you want to address it as server1.raimondraj.com12:24
RaimondRajyes12:25
tomreynthen you should edit the dns records at hostinger for the raimondraj.com zone and add an A record there named "server1" and point that to the ip address of your VPS12:25
RaimondRajhow about the TTL12:26
RaimondRajits show 1400012:26
tomreyn900 is probably a good start for this A record.12:26
RaimondRajDNS Record created successfully12:27
tomreynmore importantly, you'll need to find out the ip address12:27
RaimondRajDNS Record created successfully12:27
tomreynwell, the authoritative dns server for your raimondraj.com domain name are ns1.dns-parking.com. and ns2.dns-parking.com., which suggests this is a parked domain, which suggests you may not be able to edit its authoritative dns zone12:28
RaimondRajyes12:29

tomreyntomatho: sorry for the lack of detail earlier. so i think your computer is not handling return-from-suspend well with operating systems which are not microsoft windows. you may need to make ubuntu claim towards the firmware / bios that it is in fact microsoft windows, that's what ubottu told you about12:57
tomreyntomatho: many computers, especially laptops, have this issue and will not do resturn from suspend well with ubuntu or other linux distributions out of the box. but claiming that the OS is actually windows, when communicating to the firmware via ACPI, can help the firmware behave properly. sometimes these problems in the domain of the hardware manufacturer also can be solved by firmware (bios) upgrades, which is why i suggested this first.12:59
tomreyntomatho: in the end, there is no guarantee that return-from-suspend will ever work well with any operating system other than the one the hardware manufacturer supports.13:00
tomathoOK, will try.13:01
tomreynRaimondRaj: you should now be able to run any "sudo" commands without getting the warning message13:01

ravagetMH: all?19:15
tomreynduds`: as ubottu mentioned, downgrading is not supported. you could theoreticall yuse any compatible kernel on any ubuntu version, practically this may or may not work. which kernel boots depends on the bootloader, which works differently (not grub) on raspi (arm64 / armhf) than the amd64 platform.19:16
tomreynDemosthenex: i.e. you'd probably need to use "flash-kernel". but i can't personally help with that.19:20

tomreynDemosthenex: if the system does not boot to graphics and you want to review what went wrong, just reboot to whatever provides graphics and use      journalctl -b -1    to see the log from the previous boot.19:26
tomreynDemosthenex: if you have another computer and an ssh server running on *this* computer you can connect to it and watch the logs live, and also fiddle with the system without having to reboot each time.19:27
Demosthenextomreyn: that's nice. ty for being thorough19:37
Demosthenexwell, i will go try adding radeon.modeset=0  and remove nomodeset19:39
Demosthenexand perhaps the radeon.si_support=119:39
Demosthenexif that still fails, well, there's always freebsd.19:40
tomreynradeon.modeset=0 should prevent kernel modesetting, but radeon needs it to work. radeon.si_support=1 would enable handling of your graphics chipset by the radeon driver,19:45

Rojo40im old....23:20
jhutchinsRojo40: So is your overall boot time something like 15 minutes, or is a lot of this parallel?23:20
Rojo40https://dpaste.com/HYH72SPCU23:21
Rojo40jhutchins lol nop its not 15 minutes but too long23:22
Rojo40the smd service is in red23:22
Rojo40also nmbd service23:22
leftyfbRojo40: are you sharing samba shares to your network?23:22
Rojo40not that I know leftyfb23:23
Rojo40networking.service also in red23:23
crax23Rojo40, what command did you use to display this output?23:23
leftyfbRojo40: then why did you install them?23:23
leftyfbRojo40: samba = Windows shares23:23
Rojo40apparmor.service in red, snap-snapd-17576.mount in red and finally dev-loop9.device in red23:24
Rojo40I used crax23 systemd d critical chain23:24
crax23Most of the services takes up more than 1 min to start per service?23:24
leftyfbcrax23: sudo systemd-analyze blame23:24
leftyfbRojo40: I would recommend removing or disabling both smbd and nmbd and see if that helps23:25
crax23thk you leftyfb23:25
Rojo40https://dpaste.com/G5ZQTPNL723:26
Rojo40thats analyze blame23:26
crax23There is a disk access issue maybe for it to be so slow, even on other services? don't you think so?23:26
crax23you can analyse it with smart tools maybe. read/write speed.23:26
leftyfbcrax23: you have almost no information to determine it's a disk access issue23:26
leftyfbRojo40: disable or remove smbd and nmbd and go from there23:27
crax23leftyfb, that's why it would be interesting to test read/write and also disk access once booted openning FS manager and loading files.23:27
Rojo40leftyfb I can just disable those services with no consequences?23:27
leftyfbRojo40: yes. Then reboot. But also, why are they installed if you don't have any shares? They aren't installed by default23:28
Rojo40leftyfb no idea23:28
Rojo40so what do I do, a sytmctl to kill the services or unistall the package?23:29
leftyfbRojo40: sudo systemctl disable smbd ; sudo systemctl disable nmbd23:29
leftyfbor maybe it's just sudo systemctl disable samba  # not sure. Been a long time since I've needed either of those23:30
crax23Rojo40, also you can tweak: /etc/systemd/system.conf:#DefaultTimeoutStartSec=90s  this would stop waiting for the service to start indefinitly and go the next one. However it breaks things if some services are unable to boot ofc.23:30
leftyfbdoing that is a terrible idea23:30
crax23no, there is acceptable max start time. otherwise you fix or disable the service.23:32
Rojo40ok did this  sudo systemctl disable smbd ; sudo systemctl disable nmbd leftyfb23:32
leftyfbreboot23:32
Rojo40ok ill be back :p23:34
Rojo40alright didnt see much of a diference let me check sytemd analysis23:41
Rojo40I get this23:43
Rojo40https://dpaste.com/3P57Y46XT23:43
leftyfbRojo40: define "slow boot"23:44
leftyfbRojo40: what exactly are you seeing and what do you expect to see?23:45
Rojo40leftyfb more than 1 minute?23:45
Rojo40I also wonder what does this mean graphical.target @1min 18.466s?23:46
leftyfbRojo40: that is a timeframe. time frame for what to happen on your screen. To get a login greeter? After you login?23:46
Rojo40ok23:46
Rojo40and thats my new systemd blame23:47
Rojo40https://dpaste.com/C38NKT4JV23:47
Rojo40if it looks alright to you leftyfb then I guess its fine, as you can tell Im no expert23:47
leftyfbRojo40: you have yet to answer the question23:48
Rojo40leftyfb   what exactly are you seeing and what do you expect to see?   When??23:48
leftyfbRojo40: you turn on your computer. What do you see on your screen that takes long?23:49
Rojo40it freezes fro ahilw on the logo :Asus"23:49
Rojo40then I get a loading screen that lingers also long23:50
leftyfbRojo40: define loading screen23:50
Rojo40black screen with only a loading icon23:51
leftyfbas for the asus logo, that's your POST, but could also be shown while the kernel is booting. You can try to go into your BIOS and disable the splash/logo screen or quick boot23:51
leftyfbRojo40: mind you, your times are a bit high and could be due to old hardware including your hard drive. Especially if it's not an SSD23:52
Rojo40leftyfb yes I think I tried that but i'll check again23:52
Rojo40leftyfb its an old hard drive indeed23:52
leftyfbRojo40: that's probably a good portion of it23:53
leftyfbget an SSD if you can23:53
Rojo40leftyfb I mean its obvious that a SSD will get you a faster time, my question is if the time I get now seems normal to you or not23:53
leftyfbRojo40: normal for aging hardware, sure23:54
Rojo40leftyfb ok thats more reasuring  :)23:54
Rojo40leftyfb ou have been very kind leftyfb23:55
Rojo40thanks for your help23:55
