[01:10] Hello, my laptop's keyboard and track pad are not working(they work in bios but not on actual os). I'm not sure where to begin to fix this issue [01:27] schmo: Does USB keyboard and mouse work? [01:27] *do [01:28] Likely problem is with display server. Are you working with Wayland or X11? That said, it may be a USB issue, since internally these are almost alway represented as a USB device. Also, what computer model and year? [01:30] ^ I take that back; not all input devices are mapped to USB. Whoops... [01:32] Yes, I am able to na irate with external mouse and keyboard. I am not sure whether I am using Wayland or X11, is there a way to check? [01:32] *navigate [01:37] The laptop is a HP envy x360 2n1 [01:39] I think the year is 2018 [01:44] Schmo: Open System Settings > About this system. Then look at graphic platform. [01:44] In fact, if you can add all that info into a dpaste, that would be helpful. [01:45] Hmmm, envy x360 I thought was well supported. [01:46] A couple of things to try: https://linux-hardware.org/ - check your hardware there to see if someone else has the same issue. [01:47] It looks like x11 [01:48] X11 should be the safest bet. [01:49] Also, does grub work? [01:50] When does keyboard + mouse "go away"? If you can't use them in grub, then it is almost certainly a kernel issue (firmware or need to update initramfs or similar). [01:51] I gotta get back to work, but I hope that helps... [01:54] It works in grub, they stop working once I reach the kubuntu login screen [02:23] Schmo: That's very interesting results [02:23] So you are probably looking at an X11 configuration issue. [02:24] See if you can see the devices using 'xinput' [02:28] There are 5 stages to consider availability: BIOS (good), Grub (good), DM (like sddm: can you sign into your account from the graphical interface?), in a virtual terminal (e.g. press ctrl+alt+f2 and then try using the keyboard from there), and in the DE (e.g. KDE). If the ONLY place there is an issue is the DE, then try a different one to see if the problem still exists (XFCE is probably a good choice). [02:29] If, however, the problem starts at DM (during graphical login), then there likely an X config issue. [02:29] Ok, back to work again. [02:29] :P [02:33] Installation stated ther is a manual here for kubuntu 20. Is it downloadabe? [04:03] I tried using the keyboard in the virtual terminal, it doesn't work. [04:18] At this point, I'd try a live USB. Start from Kubuntu, then Ubuntu, then W10. If it works in Kubuntu, it's likely a config/install error. If it works in Ubuntu, it is likely KDE specific. If it works only in W10, then it is likely a kernel issue. [04:30] Hi [04:31] I have 64 gigs flash how can i make 2 partition 59 and 5 gigs with kde partition manager? [04:36] omar: Press f1 for help. [04:36] if your flash drive is empty, you should be able to play for a bit to solve it. It's a good app, and pretty easy to use. [07:44] I ran Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and W10. I also tested Xubuntu and even Manjaro. I was able to move with track pad and arrow keys after boot from W10, but not the others. I can't seem to get past the GRUB screen to install Kubuntu. Would anyone be able to help me? [14:06] Well, that was to trying [14:06] Take care all! [14:09] user|56, if grub is installed then kubuntu or some other linux OS is already installed [14:13] BluesKaj: Missed by one second. [14:13] Err, nvm, I misread... [14:14] arraybolt3, he jeft anyway ...too late [14:15] left === jdrab is now known as undefNULL === undefNULL is now known as undefnull [18:39] i have kubuntu freshly installed on my thinkpad L440. The touchpad - after adjusting how it reacts in the setting - works great. (Scrolling direction, two finger right click, everything fine). However after automatic timebased sleepmode (in malual sleep this doesnt) [18:40] .. the touchpad stops working. [18:41] sudo modprobe -r psmouse | sudo modprobe psmouse helps reactivate the touchpad - however the settings arn't restored. Any ideas? [19:46] test [19:47] hi all [19:48] I'm on a live version here but I have a question [21:25] IOE3 [21:27] I cannot access my vault anymore after my kubuntu 22.04 froze and had to do a hard reboot. Any way to access my vault again, correct password does not work. Only the last file i had open is available but not in the vault.
