xu-help99wDoes anyone know the xubuntu "live" username / password?09:25
Unit193xubuntu09:26
xu-help99wI tried xubuntu as the username and no password but that didn't work.  I also tried xubuntu as both username and password and that didn't work either...09:28
xu-help99wAny other ideas?  I could install it on a USB thumbdrive but the Live login won't work w/o a username/password...09:30
Unit193I mean it should just boot to the desktop, there shouldn't be any need for the login info.  It most certainly should be 'xubuntu' with no password, but could try 'ubuntu' as well.09:33
xu-help99wThat's what I figured too but no luck...  It doesn't login automatically like one would think.  Thanks for the help but I think this is an issue with this distro.  Too bad there aren't any forums that the devs look at for bugs etc.09:34
Unit193How did you create the install medium?09:37
xu-help99wI'm running the ISO from Ventoy.09:40
xu-help99whttps://www.ventoy.net09:40
Unit193Hah, well there you go then. :P09:44
xu-help99wxubuntu-22.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso09:44
Unit193Perhaps try it with unetbootin or linux live usb creator instead. :)09:44
xu-help99wIt boots up fine and then displays a logon screen and wants a username and password.09:45
Unit193Which is most certainly not normal...  If nothing else, you should be able to select the username rather than typing it in.  If you switch to a TTY, what's it say the hostname is?09:46
xu-help99wI've got around 20 ISOs on a 64Gb flashdrive running Ventoy and Mint, Linux Live etc. all run Ok directly from Ventoy.  Strange that Xubuntu asks for a username / password and no way to login w/o the info.09:46
xu-help99wI can't do anything with it, no terminal or anything since I can't login.09:47
Unit193TTY, meaning Ctrl+Alt+F1 (Ctrl+Alt+F7 to get back.)09:48
Unit193casper, the thing that boots the system, sets the username and hostname to the distro shipped.  The useful aspect here would be checking the hostname to find out what the username is, and if something modified that too.09:50
xu-help99wI'll give that a try in a minute. Thanks for the idea.  I'm making a bootable thumbdrive from the ISO to try that too.09:51
Unit193You got the Xubuntu ISO itself from https://xubuntu.org/releases I presume.09:51
xu-help99wOk, good info.  I'll give it a try once this USB made.09:57
xu-help99wYep, I downloaded the ISO from xubuntu.org awhile ago.09:57
xu-help99wI'm booting back into Ventoy with the ISOs again now.10:03
xu-help99wIt seems to boot up fine and gets to the "Try or Install Xubuntu" screen.  Then I choose the "Try" option to run it in "Live" mode and that's when it goes to the login screen w/o anyway to get past it.10:04
xu-help99wCtrl+Alt+F1 and the screen goes totally black with a blinking cursor in the upper left corner.10:07
xu-help99wCtrl+Alt+F7 takes me back to the xubuntu login screen.10:08
xu-help99wThe blinking cursor screen won't accept any input.  Ctrl+C does nothing, it doesn't accept any input at all.10:09
xu-help99wI can get into the Desktop via the dedicated USB.  It doesn't prompt for login, just goes directly to the desktop.  It seems that something with running it from Ventoy is causing the problem.  Strange that Linux Mint 21 and Linux Live etc. run from Ventoy w/o issue.10:21
Unit193Specifically strange about Mint as it should use casper, ubiquity, and lightdm too.10:22
xu-help99wYes, it seems if it would work for one it should work them all...10:28
xu-help99wThey are all ubuntu 22.04 based.10:29
xu-help99wI'm out!  thanks for the assist!11:02
xu-irc18whi! I have asked in the past about a video streaming problem. Sometimes when I play a video, the video stops and the video just keeps loading. After closing ALL browsers I notice that all streaming video is stuck (as in loading forever) even if I use a different streaming service (like vimeo or youtube). At the same time every non-video streaming13:26
xu-irc18wsite works fine (speed). It now happened again. Last time the suggestion was to run ping. The results don't reveal a network problem13:26
xu-irc18wYoutube says "if playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device"13:26
xu-irc18wPlaying local videos (with VLC) works fine.13:26
xu-irc18wI am on xubuntu 22.04 but had the same problem with all xubuntus back to 18.0413:26
xu-irc18wit doesn't look device specific as I had this issue with a 2014 Macbookair and a lenovo thinkpad13:27
gnrpxu-irc18w: Sounds like your network provider13:27
gnrpsome block video streaming to have more bandwidth for everybody (I have seen this in public places like airports or in trains)13:27
xu-irc18wI can download video with yt downloader13:27
Unit193Sounds like firefox getting stuck. :P13:28
xu-irc18was I said in the description, ALL browsers13:28
gnrp*afaik* downloading the video is different to streaming it13:28
xu-irc18wyoutube downloader mimicks a browser page and downloads chunks etc, it does stream video and stores it locally13:29
xu-irc18wI refer to this https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp youtube downloader for example13:29
xu-irc18walso whenever13:29
gnrpdoesn't youtube use some webrtc or so?13:29
Unit193Not that it helps, but mpv can use yt-dlp as a backend to play videos.  And yeah, just every so often firefox gets stuck for me and I have to restart it or audio, depending.13:29
gnrpfor downloading13:30
xu-irc18wgnrp: I think so, I thought a browser was doing the same13:31
xu-irc18walso whenever I reboot the machine the issue is fixed. My IP is the same, the ISP doesn't know I rebooted the machine, so it doesn't look like the ISP is the problem13:31
xu-irc18wI have tried to run `killall xfwm4`  or `xfwm4 --replace --compositor=on` but doesn't help13:32
xu-irc18wI am struggling to find how to debug the issue13:34
Unit193Just for the sake of it, try killing pulseaudio instead?13:34
xu-irc18wUnit193: stupid question but what commands should I use for that? `pulseaudio -k` ?13:37
xu-irc18wha! `pulseaudio --kill` and then `pulseaudio --start` just made things work again!!!13:42
xu-irc18wstreaming can now be resumed13:42
xu-irc18wmany many thanks! I've had this issue for months!13:43
xu-irc18wnext time it happens I'll try the pulseaudio restart without the xfwm4 commands (that I have ran just 20 mins ago) to see if they work on their own13:44
