arraybolt3[m]Silly question, but are emojis supposed to work entirely on Lubuntu? I seem to have only outline-like emojis everywhere (QTerminal, Chrome, everywhere but Element and Thunderbird I think). I'm guessing we're missing a font or something. Dunno if this is a bug or expected behavior, technically emojis are working, they just aren't working like they work on other flavors.18:39
arraybolt3[m]If it's not expected behavior, I'll add that to The List for debugging and report it on Launchpad.18:40
kc2bez[m]Sounds like a reasonable conclusion. I guess we would need to compare what fonts we have vs the other flavors.18:41
arraybolt3[m]Which reminds me, I need to report the fact that qtxdg-tools is missing in the seed.18:41
arraybolt3[m]Huh, I can't report a bug against Ubuntu Seeds? Odd. Guess I'll just file it in the list then.19:10
kc2bez[m]Please file it against lubuntu-meta. https://phab.lubuntu.me/w/bugs/19:12
arraybolt3[m]Oh, ok.19:12

tsimonq2> Looks like Qt6 may be throwing a wrench in the works of theming. What are our plans here? Is all of LXQt supposed to eventually build against Qt6, or do we have a different plan?19:41
tsimonq2I don't know the answer to this problem, but it's one that needs to be on our radar, since Qt 6 is coming19:41
tsimonq2<arraybolt3[m]> "Silly question, but are emojis..." <- This was a wxl issue and I've heard exactly nothing about it since. Last I heard we shipped an emoji font package?19:42
kc2bez[m]My quick web searching indicates we need fonts-noto-color-emoji19:53
kc2bez[m]Though there may be issues with that https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fonts-noto-color-emoji/+bug/197417919:56
-ubot93:#lubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 1974179 in fonts-noto-color-emoji (Ubuntu) "Kubuntu: Noto Color Emoji" [Undecided, New]19:56
kc2bez[m]We have `ttf-ancient-fonts-symbola` which is supposed to provide "something". https://git.lubuntu.me/Lubuntu/lubuntu-meta/src/commit/c076e73922aa55542aaf019b56f3ed65e9af798a/desktop-recommends-amd64#L6820:02
kc2bez[m]Those should be monochrome emoji fonts based on my reading. ^20:03
arraybolt3[m]<kc2bez[m]> "Those should be monochrome emoji..." <- Yeah, that's what I'm seeing on my system.20:57
* arraybolt3[m] tries installing that fonts-noto-color-emoji thing20:58
arraybolt3[m]👍️ Testing emoji...20:59
arraybolt3Hmm, looks like the bridge is being slow today.20:59
arraybolt3[m]Ah, nvm, it worked.21:00
arraybolt3[m]OK that seems to have fixed emoji in Chrome (installing the noto font and removing the symbola font), QTerminal still isn't quite working right but I'll reboot in a bit and see what happens.21:01
arraybolt3[m]<kc2bez[m]> "Though there may be issues..." <- That is a concerning bug, but isn't that the default emoji font in Kubuntu? I never had any weird problems like that bug described in my use of Kubuntu, and the reporter didn't specify what app or code was showing the bug.21:21
arraybolt3[m]"This affects GUI developed in Qt" well obviously not all of them since KDE apps work. So *what* GUI developed in Qt is affected?21:21
kc2bez[m]Yeah, the details are light.21:21
arraybolt3[m]Also Featherpad launches for me with that font installed so unless it's just not using that font, it's not affecting all Qt6 apps.21:23
arraybolt3[m]I guess my Qt apps appear to still be using the old font or something similar though, so maybe it really is just not loading that font.21:29
arraybolt3[m]Nope, I can set noto-color-emoji as the Featherpad font and it works.21:31
arraybolt3[m]Asked for more info on the emoji font bug and set it to Incomplete.21:34
kc2bez[m]Nice, good idea. It sounds like based on your testing it is not reproducible so we don't have to worry about it.21:43
arraybolt3[m]I should do slightly deeper testing just to make sure, but it looks non-reproducible.21:45
kc2bez[m]Question - Do we need to uninstall ttf-ancient-fonts-symbola or can it be co-installed with fonts-noto-color-emoji?21:45
arraybolt3[m]No clue, let's find out.21:45
arraybolt3[m]At least in Chrome, it looks like both can be co-installed and emojis work right.21:48
arraybolt3[m]However installing one (and even removing the other) doesn't make emojis work right in QTerminal and Featherpad, but that may be LXQt restrictions since at least Featherpad seems to only allow one font to be used at once.21:48
arraybolt3[m](And using the Noto emoji font as the main font looks... really weird :P)21:48
arraybolt3[m]teward: Just made a foo-foo and broke something, could use some help. Details in DM.a23:12
arraybolt3[m]Simon Quigley: I think you could also fix it, if you're available.23:14
tsimonq2What happened?23:15
arraybolt3[m](For onlookers, it's not serious, I'll say what happened in #lubuntu-members once I can access it again.)23:17
