user|79Question?05:36
user|79I am using 22.04 LTS on a thumb drive with persistence.  It worked great for quite a while but eventually the Discover software center ceased to work.  No updates at all.  The screen scrolls up at the bottom with error codes, but can't read them fast enough. Is there any way to fix this?  I Love  the distro and want to install however the full05:41
user|79install on my wife's laptop does the same thing and I am unsure whether it is worth the trouble now.05:41
user|79Any help is appreciated.05:41
user|79Nope?  OK thanks anyway.05:43
IrcsomeBot<Omar> When kubuntu 23.04 is out will i be able to upgrade from kubuntu 22.04 directly?07:24

Guest55hi all08:21
Guest55I have a question about Linux and its services running in the background.08:22
Guest55I have debian (kde installed) and I found that there is some apache2 services and python3 running in background from the root user. And I do not remember registering this services.08:23
Guest55Thanks.08:23
alkisgYou installed apache at some point, you may see when in /var/log/apt/history.log08:26
Guest55I never installed. Probably was already installed. And if I installed apache2 server why he's running from root after I boot up?08:30
Guest55Thanks.08:30
alkisgGuest55: debian policy says that "when you install a service, it's started by default"08:39
alkisg"was already installed" ==> not in any debian or ubuntu distribution08:39
alkisgIf you came after another sysadmin installed apache, they should have told you they installed it08:39
alkisgYou can check the file I mentioned for the exact date that a local sysadmin installed apache08:40

Guest55alkisg as I said, I never remember specifically installing apache2 (and its my personal PC). I just disable the service in systemctl.08:45
Guest55Thank you.08:45
Guest55*it is08:46
alkisgGuest55: for example you might have installed ANOTHER package that depended on apache08:46
alkisgThe logs will tell us, if you want to look at them08:46
Guest55alkisg08:49
Guest55Yes, It as "git-all".08:49
Guest55Probably to run git diff in web. alkisg08:50

alkisgGuest55: we have the definite answer in the logs. If you want my help in reading the logs, you may upload them to pastebin08:51
alkisgGuessing isn't my forte, I prefer to look at proof08:51
Guest55alkisg08:51
Guest55I found it in the logs. The only place was after installing "git-all".08:51
alkisgapt install git-all doesn't install apache for me, it doesn't depend on it08:53

alkisgAnd where is apache in the lines that you pasted?08:58
Guest55I don't understand this bot is spamming users IP address in main chat?09:03
IrcsomeBot<Omar> Why? (re @IrcsomeBot: <alkisg> No)09:22
alkisgOmar, because the only "jump" allowed is from LTS to the next LTS; all the other upgrades must be done sequentially, without jumping versions09:23
IrcsomeBot<Omar> So i have to go 22.10 first09:24
IrcsomeBot<Omar> Is it stable as lts?09:24
alkisgNo09:26
alkisgNon-LTS releases have less users, less testing, less fixing09:26
IrcsomeBot<Omar> Aha ok thanks i'll stick to the LTS then09:27

user|19okay kubuntu gurus, got a question for yas. 22.04LTS. why doesn't grub customizer work? it used to work on xubuntu. installed g-c, and it opens and pretends to save changes, but boot doesn't change at all.17:22
