NewbieHello world, I got Ubuntustudio downloaded and I need help now10:52
Newbieis nowhere a help chanel about ubuntu studio?10:59
gordonjcpNewbie: you could ask here, this is kind of what this channel is for11:01
Newbiehow to login in ubuntustudio? I got no password or to login, I only have an "Admin" as user and no password for the account11:03
NewbieI tried to start ubuntustudio from dvd life11:06
gordonjcpthe username should just be "ubuntu" with no passwor11:25
gordonjcp*password11:25
Newbieok, I'll try11:29
arraybolt3[m]gordonjcp: For future reference, I think the default username used to just be "ubuntu". However in my testing, the default username is the same as the "computer name" on the live ISO - for Lubuntu, that's "lubuntu", for Ubuntu, that's "ubuntu", for Ubuntu Studio, it's "ubuntustudio", etc.15:02
arraybolt3[m]1I documented this here for in the event people searched for it on the Web: https://serverfault.com/a/110714415:04
arraybolt3[m]1(Heh, typing indicators must be unreliable, it looks like I'm "typing" in two different spots at once.)15:04
OvenWerks:)15:05
OvenWerksthe easy way to find user name is open a terminal and look at the command prompt15:05
arraybolt3[m]1OvenWerks: Heh, that works too. But using the computer name can be handy in the event you can't get a graphical environment so that you can look at a command prompt.16:03
OvenWerksctr-alt-f2 generally works even when not logged in.16:05
gz1[m]<Eickmeyer[m]> "gz1: Ok, that tells me this is..." <- If you don't mind please. I am using ubuntu studio as my daily driver and i need to write in portuguese asap16:59
gz1[m]<Eickmeyer[m]> "gz1: In the meantime, you..." <- no one online in either of these 2 channels16:59
gz1[m]do you see anyone online?17:01
gz1[m]any other way to get info on this? someone could know which kde plasma component is not pulling the portuguese layout within the OS17:01
gz1[m]a tip here and there from some people will point me towards a solution. i am sure of this!17:01
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: That's not the way this works. Everyone that works on Ubuntu Studio is completely volunteer, so no amount of urgency is going to get this fixed in your timeline.17:01
gz1[m]and this will get this fixed which makes me happy anyway. id like to contribute to ubuntu studio to find and fix bugs as this will take my linux skills to the next level!17:02
arraybolt3[m]1Right but that gives you a login prompt and leaves you wondering what the username and password is.17:02
gz1[m]Eickmeyer[m]: i believe you! should i just research this on my own and see what i find? even this will improve my knowledge with the filesystem and kde plasma anyway17:03
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: Let me see if I can find the Ubuntu Portuguese LoCo (Local Community) for you, it's very active.17:03
Eickmeyer[m]It's an upstream issue, but maybe somebody there has an idea of what to do.17:04
Eickmeyer[m]And, it could already be fixed in a later version.17:04
gz1[m]Eickmeyer[m]: Thanks a lot really! From within elementor chat i am using right now i cant connect to either #ubuntu-pt:libera.chat or #ubuntu-br:libera.chat 17:04
gz1[m]it just doesn't work17:04
gz1[m]and from here https://web.libera.chat/17:05
gz1[m]no one shows online17:05
Eickmeyer[m]Yeah, that's why I'm wondering if there's another place they meet, such as a discourse forum.17:05
Eickmeyer[m]I'm trying to get ahold of a contact now. A little patience.17:06
gz1[m]Eickmeyer[m]: much appreciated. thanks!17:06
arraybolt3[m]Hmph. Alternate Matrix homeserver is grumpy.17:06
arraybolt3[m]1gz1: Are you able to just remove the US keyboard layout entirely and leave only Portuguese?17:06
arraybolt3[m]gz1: Are you able to just remove the US keyboard layout entirely and leave only Portuguese?17:06
arraybolt3[m]oh lol now it works17:06
gz1[m]btw, how can i become active with studio in a way that benefits the flavour and improves my linux skills?17:06
gz1[m]arraybolt3[m]: let me try that now17:07
arraybolt3[m]1(I don't mean uninstall it, but maybe you can remove it from the active layouts or something.)17:07
gz1[m]it does not work17:07
gz1[m]should i reboot_17:07
gz1[m] * should i reboot?17:07
arraybolt3[m]Maybe log out and log back in?17:07
gz1[m]á ã â17:08
gz1[m]here it works17:08
gz1[m]ç17:08
arraybolt3[m]But it doesn't work in other programs?17:08
arraybolt3[m]If so, that might mean you're just missing a font (though Ubuntu Studio is loaded with fonts so I kind of find that unlikely).17:08
gz1[m]let me reboot as its not working in text editors or onlyoffice suite17:09
gz1[m]1 min17:09
Eickmeyer[m]onlyoffice? We don't support that, it's not in Ubuntu.17:12
Eickmeyer[m]Libreoffice is.17:12
Eickmeyer[m]No response from Diogo so far.17:12
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: When you get back, if all is not well, try this: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?t=16666117:16
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: This might be helpful as well: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=23269317:18
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: Another link: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=26249617:20
gz1[m]<Eickmeyer[m]> "onlyoffice? We don't support..." <- ok i got news. This happens in kate and kwrite so far.19:04
gz1[m]In sublime text, bluefish and dbeaver editors it works fine! 19:04
gz1[m]kate and kwrite are very identical editors19:04
gz1[m]should be settings19:04
gz1[m]i removed US from layouts but it stills persists after reboot and always defaults to US after sometime. An issue i mentioned yesterday also in studio only19:05
gz1[m]i'll create extra user and test but kxkbrc is currently:... (full message at <https://libera.ems.host/_matrix/media/v3/download/libera.chat/41a32f60ce2988fb281b99f75a024a9de82bbdad>)19:06
Eickmeyer[m]gz1[m]: Yes, but there's nothing doing anything with keyboard layouts in either Kubuntu or Ubuntu Studio, so there's no logic that it only affects one and not the other. The fact that you only tested on a live system (not an installed system) of Kubuntu leads me to believe it only affects installed systems and that you'll likely find the same issue on an installed Kubuntu system after some time.19:07
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: I left you a bunch of links, please scroll up.19:07
gz1[m]yes i saw them and i am checking them now19:07
Eickmeyer[m]gz1: It's definitely an upstream KDE PLasma issue.19:07
gz1[m]i believe what you said yes. kubuntu is under virtualbox19:08
gz1[m]Eickmeyer[m]: 100%19:08
gz1[m]before i apply this command as test:19:16
gz1[m]setxkbmap -layout us -variant intl 19:16
gz1[m]i need to read about dead keys because only kate and kwrite are having this issue19:17
gz1[m]i have no idea what about dead keys and kate i have to do with settings19:17
Eickmeyer[m]Hmmm... check the settings in kate. Kate and kwrite are governed by the same engine.19:18
gz1[m]also same issue with onlyoffice which you don't support so maybe apps like these share something in common.19:19
gz1[m]But i can tell you that manjaro and endeavour were working fine with portuguese19:19
gz1[m]i dont want to be stubborn but doesn't this point to an issue with studio specific settings?19:20
gz1[m]i had these 2 distros as my only OS before i switched to studio for stability19:20
Eickmeyer[m]Again, there are no international keyboard settings in Studio. You can look at https://launchpad.net/ubuntustudio-default-settings19:20
Eickmeyer[m]So what you're seeing are things governed by the default settings in KDE Plasma.19:21
gz1[m]but default settings in KDE plasma in manjaro/endeavour os work fine out of the box19:21
gz1[m]is plasma ifferent version in studio?19:22
gz1[m]s/ifferent/different/19:22
gz1[m]well endeavour is cutting edge so...19:22
gz1[m]it's arch!19:22
Eickmeyer[m]It might be. Manjaro/endeavour might be running a newer version. If you want a newer version of Plasma, then I suggest upgrading to Ubuntu Studio 22.10.19:22
gz1[m]i'm cool with that but only if i am 100% sure this is fixed hehe, otherwise i prefer to get this fixed myself19:23
gz1[m]i already tweaked this LTS so much that i prefer to get this fixed myself and even become a volunteer somehow19:23
Eickmeyer[m]I just heard back from Diogo. They've moved to pure Matrix. The Ubuntu Portugal LoCo is now at #ubuntu-pt:matrix.org so you might be able to get some assistance.19:24
Eickmeyer[m]They've got several plasma users in their group.19:25
gz1[m]i'm already chatting to them. Thanks a lot!19:33
gordonjcparraybolt3[m]: odd, I was sure the username for ubuntustudio was also just ubuntu, but I freely admit that could have been a total brainfart20:33
OvenWerksto honest, I don't remember  :)  even though I have always used a terminal for something while installing23:49
