[10:42] gnome-session Will Thompson 360714 * commented merge request !8 * https://deb.li/e8Mx [12:49] happy Friday! [12:52] hrm [12:52] who made the decision to package gedit as a strict snap ? [12:53] (and why) [12:54] editors and IDEs are exactly the reason why classic snaps exist at all ... and we seem to get more and more users in #ubuntu that blindly installed the snap from the store ("hey there is a newer version !") and can not edit their own hidden config files anymore [13:04] yikes gnome-terminal doesn't appear to be sending startup notifications anymore [13:04] try an upgraded lunar system and open the terminal, it won't appear in alt+tab and the cursor keeps spinning until the startup notification protocol times ouit [13:07] juliank: yeah, I see it takes 15 seconds for it to resolve [13:07] neat [13:08] this is a lot better than the same issue in Chrome that's only reproducible with my profile :) [13:08] jbicha: thanks for confirming [13:09] oh also my mouse cursor disappears over the terminal windows in wayland now [13:09] hooray [13:09] you could try gnome-console as an alternative. Debian bug 1017015 is annoying but otherwise, I've been using it for months without a problem [13:09] -ubottu:#ubuntu-desktop- Debian bug 1017015 in src:gnome-console "gnome-console: copying won't work if end of line is selected" [Important, Open] https://bugs.debian.org/1017015 [13:09] is that a new replacement? [13:09] is gnome-terminal dead? [13:10] the new upstream replacement at least [13:10] we had a MIR for it last cycle, but it got stalled on that bug & Didier wanted a purple background :) [13:10] GNOME has switched their recommended terminal to Console, but gnome-terminal is still maintained by its maintainer [13:11] gnome-console has a huge cursor [13:11] However, most distros are still using Terminal (including Fedora) because Console is quite minimal [13:11] I think my cursor is screwed up [13:12] it uses the 200% scaling from my internal screen on my external when hovering over console [13:12] yeah, big cursor sounds like scaling [13:13] ok this is a more generic issue [13:13] :D [13:13] the cursor only works in xwayland and hovering the shell, but not in wayland apps [13:14] juliank: ha, I installed updates in my Lunar VM, logged out and logged back in and Terminal starts up cleaner now [13:14] I think I'll try a new session to something is weird [13:15] I mean this is a fresh session after reboot [13:15] oh well [13:15] I suspended [13:15] Let me just reboot [13:15] juliank: never mind, it comes up cleanly if I use Ctrl+T or if I use Alt-F2 gnome-terminal but now with the Activities Overview [13:15] *not with [13:16] Ctrl+Alt+T [13:19] juliank: I found an upstream issue/commit that might fix this startup glitch [13:19] jbicha: hmm dconf-editor also fails to notify, so I think it's a gnome-shell / mutter bug? The bzr branch seems to have died with focal [17:44] I think I want to upload that with vanilla-gnome-default-settings Depends adwaita-icon-theme-full added [17:44] So that if people install that they have a cursor :) [17:46] * juliank needs to add a local changes to his Ansible playbook for redeployment, sigh [17:56] juliank: I think gnome-session should depend on adwaita-icon-theme-full. That change is staged in Salsa for Debian [17:57] I've been telling people to just install gnome-session instead of the vanilla thing [17:59] vanilla-gnome-default-settings shouldn't be needed anymore; I see an issue frequently when I switch a window from my secondary monitor (portrait right) to my primary monitor (landscape). After switching monitors, the window fails to resize and the top of the window renders offscreen. [23:01] When this happens, gnome usually doesn't allow me to switch the window back to the portrait right monitor and I kill and restart the app [23:02] Where best to report?
