[15:10] And I'm back! ...As per yesterday's inquiry, I recently replaced the motherboard on my Thinkpad T430s and now my firewire device is no longer being recognized (a Mackie Onyx 1620i). I've since updated to Ubuntu Studio 22.04, but still no recognition in Studio Controls (the Mackie would normally just show up under the "Jack Master Device" dialog)... again, any advice would be greatly appreciated [15:15] !ubuntustudio-backports | Glen Davis Add this PPA and upgrade everything to get the latest version of Studio Controls (and a bunch of other goodies). Your firewire device might require FFADO as opposed to ALSA. [15:15] Glen Davis Add this PPA and upgrade everything to get the latest version of Studio Controls (and a bunch of other goodies). Your firewire device might require FFADO as opposed to ALSA.: The Ubuntu Studio Backports PPA contains newer versions of select software that is included with Ubuntu Studio. For more info, such as how to add this PPA to your system, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/BackportsPPA and [15:15] !ubuntustudio-installer. See also !ubuntustudio-controls [15:19] Right on, I'll try that out thanks [15:31] Okay, I've added the PPA... still no recognition, even when I change the "Firewire module select" dialogue to FFADO instead of ALSA ... something else I've noticed is when I open FFADO mixer it has the following message: "logginghandler: Could not communicate with the FFADO DBus service..." [15:43] Changing to FFADO requires a reboot [15:52] Yes, rebooted, still no device recognition [15:55] Also, JACK refuses to start when I change JACK backend from ALSA to firewire... if that indicates anything [16:16] This is outside my expertise as I have no firewire devices. [16:16] OvenWerks: Any ideas? [16:33] Appreciate the help... I'll keep this chat open and see what OvenWerks has to add [22:17] The firewire port if on the MB? [22:18] GlenDavis[m]: ls /dev/fw* should at least show /dev/fw0 [22:19] if the fw port is on a pcie board it may not be seated. If it is on the MB maybe check in the bios that it is enoabled [22:21] If you were using the alsa stack before, it should still work. and so that would lead me to believe there is either a hardware problem of the bios (firmware) has it disabled. [22:22] also check for the firewire modules with lsmod. You should find two of them: firewire_ohci and firewire_core [22:24] /dev/fw0 is the firewire port on your computer and /dev/fw1 would be the audio device
