EickmeyerOvenWerks: For edubuntu-installer, I ended up doing a complete rewrite, and I really like it, already submitted to the archive admins for inclusion. We *could* go this route for ubuntustudio-installer, and I could simply create a special handler for the backports PPA. https://code.launchpad.net/~edubuntu-dev/+git/edubuntu-installer18:03
EickmeyerIt's both a remover and installer all-in-one.18:03
OvenWerksEickmeyer: could the backports PPA adition be turned into a package? and therefore perhaps have backports, Ardourlatest, kubuntu backports?21:50
EickmeyerOvenWerks: Packages that enable PPAs are considered a no-no in the eyes of the archive admins, so those would have to be special handlers, which wouldn't be too difficult to implement. I already have an idea for how to do it.21:51
Eickmeyer(BTW, Lunar isn't likely to have an ardour-backports PPA as a whole new version of Ardour isn't likely to release before 23.04 EOLs)21:54
OvenWerksIt would have been a quick solution :)22:07
EickmeyerOvenWerks: Right. In an ideal world, new binary packages wouldn't have to go through archive admin approval, but anything that creates a brand new package automatically flags the archive admins and holds the packages. They then look at the contents and see what it does. If it breaches policy, it gets the NACK.22:15
OvenWerksI have nothing against admin and I figure that is a policy that makes sense22:19
OvenWerksI can think of ways it could be abused22:20
EickmeyerYeah, those ways are what are trying to be avoided.22:38
* OvenWerks is surprised installer is allowed22:40
EickmeyerInstaller isn't a package that explicitly installs a PPA, though. It is a package that just happens to have a mechanism that enables a PPA.22:41
EickmeyerThe user has to give their password to enable it.22:42
OvenWerksAh22:42
EickmeyerInstalling a package that does it via postinst isn't explicitly giving permission to enable the PPA, it's giving permission to install the package. There's a difference.22:42
EickmeyerSo, here's the question: Do we want to go with my zenity/qapt-based method, or do you want to continue to work on your glade-based method?22:45
EickmeyerJust suggesting it so we don't reinvent the wheel.22:45
OvenWerksIf you've done it it's fine22:46
OvenWerksI haven't started on anything. I am going back to controls.22:46
OvenWerksI even did some edits today on that. I think I had a bit of a block with it for a while.22:47
EickmeyerOk. I'll make a branch and work on it there. The special handler will just look for a fake package name (probably beginning with "SH-" so it knows what to look for) and enable PPAs from that.22:48
EickmeyerOh good!22:48
OvenWerksI have it so that PW can run with no interferance but I need to get jack/pulse working agian.22:48
OvenWerksAnyway, I need to pick up my Yf22:49
EickmeyerOk, have fun!22:49
