[22:31] Ubuntu 22.10 + updates since Dec. '22 shows 'Using 88XXau driver in DKMS format from rtl8812au-dkms (open source)'; but there are NO wifi stations displayed in the GUI dropdown using Mate or Gnome. Ralink adapter shows several stations. [22:33] From Software & Updates 'Additional Drivers' tab is shows the above, and I do see the RTL device in TERM when using lsusb: 'Bus 001 Device 015: ID 0bda:a811 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Installed with help from and expert on AskUbuntu. They are all there, but how to activate them and get them running? [22:37] Check in terminal> mokutil --sb [22:37] Sorry, new to this system. I have the drivers. [22:38] Returns "EFI variables are not supported on this system [22:38] " [22:38] Now check> modprobe -c | grep -i a811 [22:39] Returns: Null [22:39] So no driver was installed that supports the device [22:40] Note this Realtek device has worked for years, after the 21.10 to 22.04 upgrade, once again it stopped working. [22:41] Maybe not, but how do I reinstall it? I was told the last time it was fixed that it would be automatic... [22:41] I'm at Ubuntu V22.10 +updates now. [22:43] You installed for 21.10 originally? [22:44] I installed the Realtek setup back in V16.04 or maybe 18.04 and practically every update or upgrade of Ubuntu, it doesn't work afterwards. [22:45] I've worked for hours with a guy at askubuntu and the last time he told me it'll be persistant through an update or upgrade. But it doesn't. [22:46] Doesn't keep working. It did a couple times during the 21.04-21.10 era, but broke again when upgrading to 22.04. [22:46] jim_hitek: chili555 or pilot6? [22:47] Dunno what that means. [22:47] OH, yeah it was hey something...lemme go look... [22:48] heyenna [22:49] @heynnema [22:49] Yes. [22:50] In terminal do> git clone https://github.com/morrownr/8821au-20210708.git [22:51] okay, cloning. [22:52] I've got three directories that I've installed for the Realtek, is this one of those or a new one? [22:52] Anyway, Done. [22:52] Then> cd 8821au-20210708 && sudo ./install-driver.sh [22:52] Now what. [22:52] This should be a new one as it is easier than removing and updating the other [22:53] I see. Okay, working... [22:53] "Do you want to edit the driver options file now? y/N" [22:53] n [22:54] "Reboot"? [22:54] yes [22:54] Okay, bye for now... [22:54] Thanks. [23:43] That worked, thanks, now I'd like to copy this so I can type it out and save if for the next time Ubuntu updates/upgrades. How do I do that? [23:45] Nevermind, figured it out. [23:49] Can I bring up another 'Worked in 22.04 but doesn't work in 22.10 issue' here, or start a new thread? [23:51] Regarding commercial software/hardware that I pay a yearly fee for...StrongVPN. They have an engineer working on it but it's been nearly a week. [23:51] Try on #ubuntu first [23:51] Okay, thanks.
