lolokyou can add another static ip, but you should not remove 127.0.0.1 ever, you say 'change' os i guess you replaced it which will not work00:51
loloks/ os / so /00:51
lolokxtalkme ^00:51
xtalkmelolok i am changing the 127.0.1.1 not 127.0.0.108:04
xtalkmefor reference: https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-reference/ch05.en.html#_the_hostname_resolution08:06
lolokwhy are you changing it instead of just adding the one you want?08:06
lolokah08:07
lolok'For a system with a permanent IP address, that permanent IP address should be used here instead of 127.0.1.1.'08:07
loloki dont believe this is correct08:07
loloktias08:07
xtalkmethe problem is the resolution of ds or local_ipv408:08
xtalkmei can add a line, but i does not change the result08:08
xtalkmelolok i am testing this locally with cloud-init single -n cc_update_etc_hosts and updating the template08:13
xtalkmelolok it seems like there is reason for doubt indeed https://man7.org/linux/man-pages/man5/hosts.5.html08:26
xtalkmeAlso the man page for hosts on ubuntu Jammy does not state this line "For a system with a permanent IP address, that permanent IP address should be used here instead of 127.0.1.1."08:28
xtalkmelolok https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-users/2017-November/292629.html08:44
loloknone of this info matches what i use in my [working] system; i dont run the same software as you xtalkme but ill tell you what i have for you to try, both 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.1.1 [along with ::1] are bound to localhost and a single seperate line with my static lan ip and both my hostname and fqdn09:07
xtalkmeThanks for you time lolok, if i wanted to achieve that in an automated fashion i would need to update the /etc/cloud/templates/hosts.debian.tmpl template with a new line adding a reference to my private ip in the datasource meta_data.{{ds.meta_data.local_ipv4}} Which cloud-init then fails to parse because it does think ds is not defined.09:34
meenaminimal: i just love the response there, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2163554#c318:18
-ubottu:#cloud-init- bugzilla.redhat.com bug 2163554 in Fedora "System Certificate Trust Tool Fails To Correctly Manipulate Certificates" [Unspecified, New]18:18
meenai wonder how many ping-pongs you'll feed to get the actual response 18:18
minimalmeena: who knows18:23
