darth_tuxhey I have a problem mono-complete is installed yet when I cli wine blah.exe it tells me mono is not installed. Any ideas?02:12
sarnolddarth_tux: try running 'mono' on its own -- does it give any output?02:19
tomreyndarth_tux: mono is a way to run .NET applications natively on ubuntu. wine is an emulation for running unmodified windows applications on linux. you can run .NET applications using wine, but you'll need to use the original .NET framework distribution (targeting windows) for that02:25
darth_tuxtomreyn: thanks and sorry for my confusion it just keeps saying mono isnt install at cli with wine yet guild wars like always works like a beast02:42
tomreyndarth_tux: i really prefer not to go down the wine (or, less so, but still, mono) rabbit hole. if you want to run windows games on ubuntu without virtualization, your best options are probably lutris or steam.02:47
tomreynbut i would not expect that anyone here would want to support setting those up or solving remaining issues02:47
darth_tuxOK Steam went quack so ill try lutris and its for one game that can run on a toaster Bones Undergroud a friend wants to play with me02:47

chilverscThis is interesting, I have a service where the init.d script disagrees with systemd. The daemon no longer exists, but its pid file still remains, I suspect it crashed. Running "systemctl status cachefilesd" shows "Active: active (exited)", instead of some sort of failed state, while "SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_REDIRECT=1 /etc/init.d/cachefilesd status" shows "* Checking status of FilesCache daemon cachefilesd12:01

bellobinboupan my OS will continue to be iso or template still if i will upgrade by this command?13:30
binboupanbello: template is just the base image, it works like a normal server, so yes, just run do-release -upgrade13:31
bellobinboupan i choose before iso or template because my vps provider makes some ready pre configurations in it. so that i didn't have to be busy with all of these configurations myself.  they will be deleted and i will need to configure everything myself from zero after run upgrade command now ? that's why i scared and wanted to ask here.  :)13:35
gonixthere is no risk doing a direct upgrade from 20.x to 22.x?13:36
gonixi think you could loose some apps sometimes if they aren't packaged or things like that, i had such a situation. but since its a server its a bit different i guess.13:37

binboupanbello: your "template" stopped being a template after installation, so neither13:42
bellobinboupan: ah i didn't know it. :)13:44
bellobinboupan: is there another way to upgrade besides this command?13:45

vlmAny official place i could download prebuilt binary packages for ubuntu 16.10?15:03
ravagevlm: no15:04
greglvim: http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/16.10/15:04
ravagebut you have to search through that yourself15:05
ravage!eolupgrades | vlm15:05
ubottuvlm: End-Of-Life is when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop. Make sure to update Ubuntu before it goes EOL so you get updates promptly for newly-discovered security vulnerabilities. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOL and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more info. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades15:05
vlmIs the source files possible to get then anywhere? Saw something on launchpad but only found a few packages here and there.15:07
vlmgregl: was looking around in old-releases.ubuntu.com but didnt find any packages though? So then when a release is EOL all the packages will no longer be availible?15:08
jhutchinsvlm: Why not track down the original project and get the sources there?15:10
greglVim: There is an iso there.. That's where you should look first.15:11
UnivrslSuprBoxvlm: at the end of a release's life, its archives (release, updates, and security) on the final day are copied into old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu. You can find all the APT metadata and package files there, if you know how the repository is structured.15:11
UnivrslSuprBoxIt appears that ports aren't copied, but the main architectures are.15:11
vlmjhutchins: yes you are correct thought of didnt think before i asked.15:11
UnivrslSuprBoxAh, no, my mistake. ports are copied too.15:11

UnivrslSuprBoxAdditionally, Launchpad has the source and binary packages for every publish to Ubuntu going back years and years. If you know what you're looking for in the history of Ubuntu, there's likely a way to get Launchpad to give it to you.15:13
ogravlm, the sources should still be on launchpad ... iirc it keeps all uploads in some history DB15:13
vlmThanks for all answers. I found what i was looking in old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu but nice to know about launchpad aswell. Also looking up the original project is helpful15:15

vlmjhutchins: also i wanted to install other prebuilt packages on that very system from a source for earlier glibc. old-releases.ubuntu.com/ubuntu have all those nice debs laying around so good place to start -_-15:25
jhutchinsvlm: Yeah, you're at least going to be warned if your version is incompatible with other packages.15:26
jhutchinsvlm: Seems to me it's possible for certain uses to have more than one glibc available.15:27
ogravlm, here is an example of the source package history on launchpad: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+publishinghistory (you need to know the source package name though)15:31
ogratha should list every ever uploaded version of a package15:31
vlmogra: to be honest i havent really looked at launchpad before ive just apt-get packages. Launchpad seems very informative ill have a closer look15:33
ograwell, lauchpad is the actual archive and build location ... what you get with apt is just a frontend to that15:34
vlmogra: i probably should do some reading also dont quite understand the meaning of backports just know im able to use a newr package than whats availible in the default repositories hehe15:35

arraybolt3chilversc: I think that's probably more of a generic C programming question. You might try asking in #c.19:01
chilverscno, I don't want to recompile the binary19:01
chilverscI just want to stop it allocating addresses above the 3GB range as if it were a 32 bit application19:02
Habbiesounds like a job for LD_PRELOAD, but i don't know if a suitable library exists yet19:03
Habbie(that's all i'll say about it, it feels off topic here)19:03
arraybolt3I thought the kernel is what decides what areas of memory a program can use.19:04
arraybolt3When I've compiled a kernel before, there's a setting to choose the kernel/application memory split.19:04
arraybolt3That doesn't necessarily mean that what you're trying to do is impossible, just that I don't know how to do it and suspect that it may require kernel modification or at least recompilation.19:05
chilverscThe issue I have is an application is crashing (cachefilesd) and I have a suspicion it wasn't intended to be compiled as 64 bit19:05
arraybolt3What's the crash?19:06
arraybolt3chilversc: Can you pastebin the crash message?19:06
arraybolt3You can do so with a site like dpaste.com.19:06
chilverscIt terminates itself, calls abort(). I suspect its an old bug check from the 32 bit days where you could use addresses in the kernel range as sentinel values19:07
arraybolt3Hmm, odd. I see it interacts with the kernel.19:07
chilverscthat's the line https://kernel.googlesource.com/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/cachefilesd/+/refs/tags/v0.10.10/cachefilesd.c#157119:08
chilverscI figured until I've reported the bug, and it can be resolved I could just force linux to treat cachefilesd as if it were an old 32 bit app and only hand out addresses <0xC000000019:09
arraybolt3I see what you're saying.19:10
arraybolt3Yeah, I have no clue how to do that sadly. I see what it is you're trying to do though, so hopefully someone will have an idea.19:10
chilverscIt's the check on the line above, cullready[0] == 0x556d6d7382a0, which unfortunatley fails the check, I don't think its supposed to as its a valid memory address with valid data19:12
