acousticmirror[m[Apologies if this is not the right channel for this] A question about testing: what is the best strategy to do testing wrt the future 23.4 release? I'm on 22.04.1 LTS, and have been running 22.10 in VirtualBox. Is there a specific time when iso images will be available for testing? Whtat's the recommended workflow for providing feedback/bug reports/etc. in this context? Thanks in advance.21:54
arraybolt3acousticmirror[m: If you're wanting to help test 23.04, a new ISO of the current state of Ubuntu Studio 23.04 is generated daily and can be downloaded from here: http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/441/builds Click on "Ubuntu Studio DVD amd64" in that list, it should give you a place to report results and download the ISO.22:19
arraybolt3acousticmirror[m: Note that sometimes there will be more than one image per day here if a new image is respun for testing, and if something makes the images stop being able to be built, there may be some missed days.22:20
arraybolt3You will also need an Ubuntu One account to be able to report bugs and test results. Bugs can be reported by running "ubuntu-bug <packagename>" from within the VM - this will upload debug information to Launchpad and allow you to describe the bug you've encountered.22:20
arraybolt3Then you can mention reported bugs on the ISO tracker.22:21
arraybolt3Also, the developers may want help with verifying certain bugs - if you are interested, you can ask Eickmeyer[m] (the main dev) for an invite to the #ubuntustudio-devel channel on Matrix.22:21
acousticmirror[m<arraybolt3> "acousticmirror: If you're..." <- Ah, great - I see they're in the general Ubuntu daily builds. Thanks!22:25
acousticmirror[marraybolt3 Thank you - I already have an Ubuntu account, so that won't be an issue. I'll ask Eickmeyer about access to the devel channel in case some specific action is needed on particular bugs and I can be of help.22:28
EickmeyerA little busy at the moment, hang on...22:28
Eickmeyer[m]Also kinda sick.22:29
acousticmirror[mEickmeyer[m]: Get well, Eick! And thanks for the invite. Let's see if I can be of help with this.22:33
Eickmeyer[m]acousticmirror: Ok! Just run the tests to the best of your ability and report on the ISO tracker your findings.22:33
Eickmeyer[m]Expect stuff to be really broken and unfinished for 23.04 at this point. It's pre-alpha at this point, and stuff is very subject to change.22:34
Eickmeyer[m]For instance, studio-controls is not going to work out-of-the-box.22:35
Eickmeyer[m]However, jack utilities will because they won't require any configuration. Pipewire's jack interface is configured to work out-of-the-box.22:35
acousticmirror[mEickmeyer[m]: Yes, I was wondering how the pipewire-jack interface would work. I'll try to run it through the motions and see how it behaves.22:38
Eickmeyer[m]acousticmirror: It'll be pretty seamless. Even pulseaudio clients will appear like jack clients in a patchbay. Open patchance and you'll see what I mean.22:39
* Eickmeyer[m] going afk22:41
