[19:47] arraybolt3: In my testing in a VM, installer crashed on my first try. Can you confirm? [19:51] Will try once it finished downloaded (which could take a while). [19:51] Currently 54% done. [19:58] Looking at the logs, it looked like a permission denied issue. [20:00] BTW, expect no Ubiquity slideshow. I need to revive the old one yet, but that only needs to be done prior to UIF. [20:00] Got it. [20:01] (btw I managed to make a sort of alternative to that IODD device you mentioned to me the other day, by making a multibooting USB stick with a bunch of Ubuntu ISOs on it. Works great except for the fact that my drive is sloooooow.) [20:02] Ventoy? [20:02] Nope, GRUB2 direct ISO booting. [20:02] Oh, cool. [20:02] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/ISOBoot [20:03] So far it successfully booted Lubuntu 22.04.2 and Kubuntu 22.04.1 w/ KFocus Suite. [20:04] Only real problem is that the Plymouth screen doesn't show up during ISO bootup, but oh well. [20:04] 86% downloaded. [20:04] (Well, only real problems are that and the boot speed.) [20:05] Ok, so using a VM, Ubiquity is reproducibly broken. [20:09] bug 2008731 filed [20:09] -ubottu:#edubuntu- Bug 2008731 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "Ubiquity crashed on first test installation of Edubuntu" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/2008731 [20:10] Download finished \o/ [20:10] -queuebot:#edubuntu- Unapproved: cloud-init (bionic-proposed/main) [22.4.2-0ubuntu0~18.04.1 => 23.1-0ubuntu0~18.04.2] (edubuntu, ubuntu-cloud, ubuntu-server) [20:12] Flashing for verification on bare metal, and also doing a VM test. [20:14] * arraybolt3 plays with the Live Environment since I expect installs to fail [20:14] Install in the background, live-test in the foreground. [20:16] huh? The keyboard doesn't work while the installation is active... [20:16] No keypresses do anything. [20:16] Except in the application menu search bar, which works just fine, strangely. [20:18] Is Ubiquity somehow able to "grab" the keyboard? [20:18] Also, yes, the installer crashes. [20:20] OK so this is really weird. The keyboard works in Firefox, Ubiquity, and the app menu, but does absolutely nothing in the terminal and text editor. [20:21] arraybolt3: I didn't have that problem. [20:21] I'm in GNOME Boxes. [20:21] Using the live environment. [20:22] I used Virtualbox. Didn't have a problem in the terminal. [20:22] BTW, edubuntu is based on ubuntu-desktop-minimal. [20:23] So, literally no difference in the environment. [20:23] well I'll try and reproduce on Ubuntu Desktop too. [20:24] I don't decide the bugs, I just find them :D [20:26] btw this is a really beautiful OS so far, loving it! [20:27] Thanks! [21:33] OK so I can't reproduce the keyboard weirdness on Ubuntu Desktop so far, but it's not using Ubiquity so that might not be the best test method. [21:33] Also physical hardware didn't seem to reproduce it. [21:33] Hopefully it's just a random GNOME Boxes glitch. [21:34] I was able to reliably reproduce a failure to detect my Broadcom card on baremetal though, is that worth reporting or should I wait for the installer to be otherwise unbroken first?
