arraybolt3I'm experiencing unusually frequent plasmashell and kwin_x11 crashes on Kubuntu 22.04. I have quite a few apps open (QEMU, KAte, Element, Thunderbird, Chrome, Dolphin, Discover, and a few Konsole windows). Sometimes they aren't automatically reloading after crash and I have to killall and restart them manually. Any recent changes that might have caused this? Using Plasma 5.24.01:52
arraybolt3Checking journalctl for anything interesting now.01:52
arraybolt3I'm not seeing anything interesting, though that may be because plasmashell isn't logging to the right place now that I have it started manually.01:54
arraybolt3K, I have them both running in a terminal, I'll report back with the error next time I get a crash.01:54
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> I'm seeing this as well.  AMD GPU.... (re @IrcsomeBot: <arraybolt3> I'm experiencing unusually frequent plasmashell and kwin_x11 crashes on Kubuntu 22.04. arraybolt3Mine are with Intel graphics.01:55
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> Its been really frustrating, so I decided to enable Backports and upgraded to 5.2501:55
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> And I'm getting some what similar issues...01:56
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> I'm contemplating Tuxedo OS because they've just moved over to Plasma 5.27... and based on 22.04.  However... I'm wondering if its something to do with 22.04 itself?  Its super frustrating because I upgraded from 20.04 about a month ago, and that was pretty much perfect... Kind of regretting it.01:57
arraybolt3I just remembered that I have Vulkan enabled in Chrome, maybe that's the problem?01:57
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> you think thats the issue?  I switched over to the Brave Browser from Firefox, because Firefox has been dragging down my performance and Brave runs much faster and lighter01:58
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> How do I check if Vulkan is enabled... and what does disabling it do?01:59
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> I gotta big decision to make.... I'm on the same Kubuntu install since 16.04, and contemplating switching distros off the Ubuntu base completely, and moving over to Spiral Linux KDE.02:00
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> Spiral Linux is running Plasma 5.20 and is on Debian Stable, so I won't be leaving the Deb and Apt world...02:00
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> but the crashes are majorly disrupting my workflow....02:01
arraybolt3Vulkan is some graphics accelerateion thing.02:01
arraybolt3You might be able to find it under chrome:flags if Brave has that menu.02:01
* arraybolt3 disables and sees if stability improves02:01
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> Thanks!  I'll give it a shot02:02
arraybolt3I hope this is all it is. Vulkan is experimental in Chrome, so I wouldn't be too surprized if this was the cause.02:02
arraybolt3Could also be because I'm using Vulkan in Chrome and a non-Vulkan Electron app at the ssame time (Electron uses Chromium).02:03
arraybolt3Anyway, I'll experimenta around.02:03
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> Let me know what you experience.  I'll do the same02:03

arraybolt3@zparihar: Hmm, things were going well for a while and I just had kwin crash again. https://termbin.com/bu0s is the (I think) relevant output of my logs.05:22
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> Checking05:22
arraybolt3Looks like somehow the X server connection is dying?05:23
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> which log file is that btw?05:23
arraybolt3It's the stdout from kwin_x11 I believe.05:23
arraybolt3I didn't get it out of a logfile, I had to restart kwin in the terminal to get my session working and so I just left itin a terminal and caught the logs from that.05:24
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> aahh05:24
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> Got to bring this to the Kubuntu Devs attention05:24
arraybolt3I'll file a bug report.05:25
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> 👍 (re @IrcsomeBot: <arraybolt3> I'll file a bug report.)05:26
skramerIs it just me, or is 22.04 so buggy?07:23
skramerDoes not remember settings after restart, does not remember where to place windows after standby, ...07:24
skramerIt even does not remember the size of a window...07:31
IrcsomeBot<zparihar> 22.04 is buggy for me07:47

OnkelTemHi all.13:55
OnkelTemOn my Kubuntu 22.04.2 LTS X session stared to hang 5+ times per day when I'm switching desktops.13:55
OnkelTemDid you encounter such a weird behavior?13:56
diogenes_Vx15OnkelTem: what do you mean by switching desktops?13:57
OnkelTemdiogenes_Vx15: moving from one to another. Virtual desktops13:58
diogenes_Vx15OnkelTem: you mean workspaces?13:58
OnkelTemdiogenes_Vx15: they're called Virtual Desktops, I'm not sure what workspace is13:59
OnkelTemI mean, I'd think about workspace as of the whole environment, dunno14:00
OnkelTemhttps://i.imgur.com/TZ2Fbry.png14:01
diogenes_Vx15OnkelTem: check out your memory usage by running: free -m14:01
diogenes_Vx15especially pay attention to swap usage.14:01
OnkelTemswap is not used mostly, and I'm barely running of RAM14:02
OnkelTemthe next time it hangs, I'll check it out anyway14:03
OnkelTembut I still doubt that's the reason. Any other ideas?14:03

BluesKajHi all14:08
diogenes_Vx15OnkelTem: my theory is that it might be related to the compositing backend, as far as i recll (haven't used plasma in awhile) there used to be 3 options to pick a compositing backend, openg 2 versions and xrender, the last one offered the smoothest performance but as i read some articles, it has been removed in 5.23 so there's no way to try it out and see if that fixes your issue. But maybe there are still other composining op14:18
diogenes_Vx15tions like disabling the composition alltogether and test it out.14:18
OnkelTemdiogenes_Vx15: thank you very much, I'll start with disabling it maybe. However, I'm not sure where it's done. Maybe switching off desktop effect would be enough?14:23
diogenes_Vx15OnkelTem: try that too.14:24
OnkelTemDisabled switching animation for starters14:24
diogenes_Vx15OnkelTem: here is an interesting article if you are interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/or5e08/kwin_dropped_xrender_backend_bad_news_for_nvidia/14:26
OnkelTemdiogenes_Vx15: thanks. It seems some people've had fps issues since then. Mine 120Hz seem to be pretty stable.14:31
OnkelTem5.24.x plasma here. Damn, how old it is :) The thread is 2y old now, and is talking about 5.3214:32

weedmicmy safenet etoken with openconnect works fine for all my files in firefox, except - when I got to https://nloutlook.nl.jonkheer.com/owa/#path=/mail - it asks me to login, instead of just opening up (like it does in windows with the same key).  Any ideas on what to do would be helpful.19:48
