ratpats | hiya! Trying to install ubuntu lunar beta from the iso. I have a preexisting LVM I'd like to use. I've enabled it with vgchange -a y and it's clearly there and mountable, but the manual partitioner in the graphical installer can't see it, so I can't choose it to install onto. | 22:43 |
ratpats | Am I missing something obvious, or is this not/no longer supported? | 22:43 |
ratpats | I do see an lvm option under 'advanced' in the installer, but only if I'm erasing the disk to do a new install. | 22:43 |
guiverc | ratpats, i can't help, but which ISO are you using? you've not said (desktop? desktop-alterante? server?) | 22:51 |
ratpats | desktop! | 22:51 |
ratpats | I just realized that lunar has a new flutter-based installer! I'm installing ubiquity just to see if lvm support is working in that. | 22:52 |
guiverc | ratpats, the desktop has an alterante ISO which uses ubiquity... why I mentioned two ISOs for desktop | 22:53 |
ratpats | aha. Yes, it's not the alternate one. It's ubuntu-23.04-beta-desktop-amd64.iso | 22:53 |
ratpats | I'm just doing apt install ubiquity (in the installer boot environment) just because I'm behind a slow internet connection so downloading the whole iso again will take a while! | 22:54 |
ratpats | but yeah. I'll update this channel when I know if this is something that works in ubiquity but not the new installer. | 22:55 |
guiverc | you can use zsync to only download differences in an ISO, not the whole ISO. | 22:55 |
ratpats | oo, good point | 22:55 |
ratpats | Update: Ubiquity sees a preexisting LVM volume. The new installer *does not*. | 22:59 |
ratpats | should this be reported as a bug, or is it expected behavior? | 22:59 |
guiverc | ratpats, if in doubt I'd always file a bug... if it's expected behavior it will be reported as such & bug closed; but you'll get your answer. Please report it | 23:14 |
JanC | anything that is a regression is a bug | 23:14 |
JanC | even if it might be too late to fix it for 23.04 maybe...? | 23:18 |
ratpats | I've filed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-desktop-installer/+bug/2014977 ! | 23:19 |
-ubottu:#ubuntu-next- Launchpad bug 2014977 in ubuntu-desktop-installer "Existing LVM volume group missing in new installer" [Undecided, New] | 23:19
guiverc | thank you ratpats , if you can find the ubiquity log for your install (that worked), uploading that assist the devs who work on it. Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better. | 23:24 |
* guiverc hasn't looked at your bug report sorry; no time | 23:24
ratpats | that's okay! No rush, just wanted to update this channel for completeness! | 23:26 |
ratpats | guiverc: haven't run the install all the way through yet --- let me do that, then upload the log. | 23:27 |
ratpats | Anything from ubuntu-desktop-installer that might be worth attaching as well? | 23:28 |
* guiverc sorry can't think of anything, but I'm busy on other stuff & only noticing this on occasion with limited mental-cycles allocated to ubuntu stuff sorry | 23:30
ratpats | oh totally fine | 23:30 |
ratpats | sorry for the noise! | 23:30 |
* guiverc thinks noise/reporting findings to channel, inc. bugs filed is good! so thank you.. | 23:31
ratpats | thank you! | 23:31 |
