lotuspsychjechiefkief: storage is a wide concept, maybe elaborate what kind of ubuntu server storage you need and whats it gonna be used for?06:07
chiefkiefI would just like a file backup, and a way to download books on my tablet from my server06:08

gimzmoeI have a PXE cluster that I boot from a nfsroot, however I think I get into trouble where the kernel version doesn't match the updated version.  apt upgrade recommend "apt --fix-broken install" but that fails trying to remove old linux-image-generic version "dpkg: too many errors, stopping"... I imagine I'm doing something naughty with the updating but I'm not sure22:11
tomreyn"dpkg: too many errors, stopping" is a pretty clear indicator of something naughty going on, yes22:14
tomreynyou can't wildly mix kernels versions / builds and ubuntu releases, in case that's something you're doing22:15
gimzmoeI run several pxe-nodes, but they get their kernel from the tftp... I don't syncronize updates... but maybe I must?22:18
gimzmoeany idea how I can correct the current problem>22:21
tomreynwhich kernel are you booting (cat /proc/version), which ubuntu version is installed?22:22
tomreyn"lsb_release -ds" for the latter22:23
gimzmoe/proc/version  = 5.15.0-70-generic, Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS22:25
tomreynthis doesn't seem entirely wrong, if the kernel is an ubuntu one.22:27
gimzmoedpkg: linux-image-5.15.0-58-generic: dependency problems, but removing anyway as you requested:22:28
gimzmoethe nfsroot has a very old one it's trying to ditch22:28
tomreynmaybe apt is failing to remove the linux-image-generic package because it is not actually installed, or not fully? if so, install it first of all.22:28
gimzmoeI don't think it is22:29
tomreynif you can't install the old version, there are --force-... options to dpkg. but you should prevent running into this situation in the first place.22:31
gimzmoeinstalling linux-image-5.15.0-58-generic works, but apt wants to install linux-image-unsigned-5.15.0-58-generic22:32
gimzmoeoh oops... /etc/kernel/postrm.d/zz-update-grub :)22:34
gimzmoewell that must have been unrelated... :(22:36
tomreynin case you'll need more assistence with this, it will be tremendously helpful to provide more shell commands and output22:39
tomreynpersonally, i won't be able to help more for now, though (bed time soon)22:39
gimzmoeyou did a bunch, I think I'm on track to fix it22:40
gimzmoeg'nite and thanks again22:40
tomreynyou're welcome 22:40
