=== guiverc2 is now known as guiverc [00:49] Hi there. I installed kubuntu desktop over my ubuntu 22.04 installation. All works well, except when I apply a theme. It does not change the bottom panel. SDDM was chosen as the display manager if that helps. Any ideas on what could be causing this? [00:54] Hi, I can't start zoom client [00:56] What happens? [00:56] If you launch it from a Konsole, does it output anything? [00:56] Hi, no [00:57] I also installed Pulse Audio [00:57] it also fails [00:57] E: [pulseaudio] socket-server.c: bind(): Address already in use [00:57] E: [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed to load module "module-native-protocol-unix" (argument: ""): initialization failed. [00:57] E: [pulseaudio] main.c: D-Bus name org.pulseaudio.Server already taken. [00:58] There's the problem. Something is already using whatever port pulseaudio is trying to connect to [00:58] before that I was using google meet and it worked perfectly [00:58] into the opera browser [00:59] if I open youtube it sounds correctly [01:03] Can't say I am 100% sure there [01:36] it works now, erased and installed again [01:39] Also, is it safe to uninstall ubuntu-desktop since i install kubuntu-desktop? [09:09] hello.. since 2 days, after updates for kubuntu 20.04 the audio stops working.. no soudn, no mic.. nothing.. can change volumne, but does not help.. any idea.. [09:15] if opening pulseaudio vol control, i see: Speakers (unavailable)... [09:47] noaXess: Kubuntu 20.04 is out of support anyways. A fresh install of 23.04 could help. [09:47] can't... and i'm on ESM.. [09:49] noaXess: `pro security-status` will show you the supported packages. Kubuntu has only up to three years of support. LTS is only for main and restricted and pro for some carefully chosen packages in universe. So there is no choice but to use a supported version. [09:50] Oh, could be `ubuntu-security-status` in 20.04. I don't remember all the namechanges. Was `ubuntu-support-status` before. One of the three will do ;) [10:55] dist-upgrade failed for me and now I'm on an ungly intermediate state where some packages were upgraded, some not fully upgraded, and some stayed in the old versions. what info would you need to help me? [12:21] seems like kwin hasn't been updated? [12:22] all related packages seem to stay on 5.25 while all the rest of kde is upgraded to 5.27 [12:45] hmm, I just updated again and some (but not all) 'old' packages got new versions. maybe the mirrors are still catching up? === mkv is now known as m4v [12:45] I'm using http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ BTW [12:59] Hi all [13:46] BluesKaj: o/ [13:46] hi StyXman [15:16] hi. issue i'm having, using refind bootloader, I cannot get it to access my vmlinux. I can get it to recognize grubx64.efi, but not the vmlinuz in /boot despite having the ext4 driver inside the drivers_x64 directory in /boot/efi/EFI/refind/drivers_x64/ [15:28] also having 2 keyboard issues on my hp laptop. first one, light does not work on audio mute key. second one, depite selecting numblock to be on in ssdm, it does not turn on autmatically [19:08] OHMD [19:46] Timeshift still doesn't create snapshots and it seems to be an issue with the current rsync version. Is this a known Issue? [19:59] hello my upgrade from kubuntu 22.10 to 23.04 has failed.  can i get help here? [20:00] A description of the mode of failure may be useful so that a helper may try to understand the cause of the problem [20:01] user|22, if you return, try backintime-qt [20:03] hi there genii!  yes my kubuntu is not bootin any longer from hard disk. i have now booted kubuntu from my DVD 22.10 and i am talking to you. [20:05] the upgrade was running fine until it complained someting about memtest20 and the upgrade stopped. [20:06] Are the hard drive partitions currently visible to you from the livedvd? [20:07] yes i can see partitions from dolfin [20:08] dolphin i mean [20:11] before crashing it said that upgrade failed and was trying to recover, but it could not because the database was locked or something like that . . . [20:13] i was a windows user until a year ago when i moved to kubuntu i am still a beginner [20:18] can i recover my  old 22.10 or can i restart the upgrade somehow? [20:31] i can also see the partitions and the folders in the hard drive . . . [20:34] any help or advice on how to proceed will be greatly appreciated [20:34] Apologies, my workplace is currently busy and I'm away from the computer often right now [20:35] no worries genii, i can wait . . . [20:36] If you can see all the files, my first suggestion would be to copy all the things in your old home directory that you want to save onto an external or second hard drive, and just do a clean install 23.04 [20:37] ..then later you can move all your documents, pictures etc back over [20:38] ok under the home directory i can see my user id, but it shows a lock.  how can i access the my folder under home? [20:41] i can not access the files in my old home directory . . . [20:43] yes i would love to do that genii copy some old files and then do a fresh/clean 23.04 install [20:51] Do you remember the password which was used to encrypt your old home directory? [20:52] ..if so the files are still obtainable with this method https://askubuntu.com/questions/238047/how-do-i-mount-an-encrypted-home-directory-on-another-ubuntu-machine/743110#743110 [22:42] hi i was talking to genii earlier on.  Sorry i had to restart the live dvd and that takes ages.  i was asking how do i access my old files?  my old user folder in the hard disk shows a lock.  i will copy some files and then as you suggested i will do a clean install of Kubuntu 23.04.  Thank you for your help!
