greg-gmorning still :)15:40

cmaloneyHow ar things out here in the world?15:41
greg-gmeh, I just got the summary from the 1:45am domestic disturbance call last night for our crazy neighbors on one side. Apparently the son and mom had a big fight where she called the cops. I some how didn't wake up even though our bedroom window is RIGHT THERE.15:42

MooncairnI think I need a new mouse. Mine keeps going out to lunch briefly. journalctl shows that gdm-x-session is removing the mouse and then reconnecting it.16:24
MooncairnMy keyboard has also been having issues with going out to lunch and sending phantom keystrokes as if a key was being held down constantly. The only solution is unplugging the keybaord and plugging it back in.16:25
MooncairnHaving said all that, I may be going to Microcenter tomorrow to look for a new keyboard and mouse. Any recommendations?16:26
MooncairnI16:26
MooncairnI'm thinking about looking for PS/2 keyboards and mice.16:26
MooncairnBoth of my current mouse and keyboard are wired USB.16:27
MooncairnOkay, nevermind about PS/2 as far as Microcenter is concerned. They don't have any. If I decide to go that route I'll have to look online.16:32
MooncairnAnswering my own question: I might just opt for cheap Logitech USB keyboard and mouse unless better options are presented.17:04
MooncairnBeyond that, there might be a way to fix my current mouse. Posting here in case someone with a similar problem is perusing the IRC logs: https://github.com/sriemer/fix-linux-mouse#usb-auto-suspend-on-linux17:05
cmaloneyI loke my Leopold keyboards.17:36
cmaloneyand I'm an idiot that uses Bluetooth mice. ;)17:36
MooncairnYea, the cheap Logitech mouse I was eyeing is wireless, too. ;)17:38
cmaloneyI exclusively buy Logitech mice.17:38
MooncairnI'm going to see if the kernel params I added to my grub config does anything about my keyboard/mouse first.17:39
cmaloneyThe M557 is my absolute favorite17:39
MooncairnBookmarked17:39
cmaloneyIt's not durable (I have a box of old ones that have one or more buttons that have phantom clicks or don't click) but they do the job.17:39
MooncairnI just noticed in my kernel logs that the usb hub has been routinely disabling ports throughout the day and that the keyboard is definitely on one of them. That article link I posted is likely on to something.17:42
MooncairnAlso, the mouse port, although I already knew about that one. ;)17:43
cmaloneyI think you might want to pull the ub17:46
cmaloneyhu17:46
cmaloneyI've had many hubs do nasty things that disappeared when I jettisoned the hub17:46
MooncairnIt's internal to the motherboard.17:46
cmaloneyI run everything direct into the ...17:46
cmaloneyooof17:46
cmaloneyMight want to check the mobo to see if there's a short / bad solder.17:47
cmaloneyif there's any play in that connector that could be trouble.17:47
MooncairnOk, that'll be my next step if the added kernel params don't fix the problem.17:49
Mooncairn(Un)Fortunately, the problem is so pernicious that if there's an absence of port drops for the rest of the day, I know it's probably fixed.17:49
MooncairnOk, let me revise that. The "disabled by hub" kernel logs aren't happening nearly as frequently as the mouse drops, often skipping entire days.17:51
MooncairnCrap. The kernel params did not help. I guess I'll be figuring out how to check the mobo for shorts and/or bad solder.17:55
MooncairnMoved keyboard & mouse to different USB ports to see if that helps, but the keyboard is now feeling a bit laggy.17:58
MooncairnThat didn't help either. They're on different USB bus number (as shown by lsusb), but same problem.18:18
cmaloneyUgh18:31
cmaloneyI think you might have a bad mobo18:31
MooncairnWonderful :-/18:34
