Sylvain31Hello is installing a xubuntu desktop image, the same as installing ubuntu-server + sudo tasksel install xubuntu-desktop + lightdm ?09:47
tomreynnot exactly, you'll end up with different packages installed. for example, ubuntu server comes with cloud-init and netplan and uses systemd-networkd for network management by default, whereas the xubuntu installation would setup network manager and not install cloud-init or netplan.09:54
Sylvain31OK, Thanks. I saw that.10:18
Sylvain31Where can I found detail on how the iso is built? From https://unit193.net/xubuntu/ it seems it should start from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/MinimalCD + a meta-package 10:22
Sylvain31According to some rapid search I made I can see this post: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/poll-about-possible-netboot-mini-iso-revival-in-future-ubuntu-releases/1945712:13
Sylvain31So it seems that the minial iso is beeing removed. latest 20.04 if I'm right. So I'm now searching how to build Xubuntu-core :-)12:14
Sylvain31an updated one :-)12:14
Unit193Umm, just use the one provided by xubuntu.org?13:06
Unit193It's not updated by me anymore because it doesn't need to be...13:08
Sylvain31Unit193, according to https://xubuntu.org/news/xubuntu-23-04-released/ in the latest xubuntu release notes, they discuss that there are now "minimal" images.13:10
Sylvain31It this image supported? Can it be rebuilt with custom stuff?13:10

rudyvalenciaI'm using Discord v0.0.27 from both the official DEB package and the snap. Neither of these show a tray icon and if I minimize Discord it disappears and I have to kill and restart it to get the window back. Any reason this might be happening?15:59
rudyvalencia(forgot to mention, Xubuntu 22.04 LTS, all packages are current)16:00
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia, i don't remember exactly but i suppose that version required a separate systray plugin (can't remember the exact name) and also check if the discord tray icon is not marked as "hidden".16:22
rudyvalenciaSomeone said that but it looks like a GNOME plugin, not an XFCE one16:23
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia, it's a XFCE plugin, alternatively you could try other systray plugins like: stalonetray and see whether you get a better result with that one.16:25
rudyvalenciaApparently it's supposedly related to ayatana-indicator-application16:25
rudyvalenciabrb gonna test it16:26
diogenes_Vx15you don't need ayatana stuff.16:26
rudyvalenciahttps://gitlab.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/-/issues/599#note_6079316:26
-ubottu:#xubuntu- Issue 599 in xfce/xfce4-panel "[Bug] icons do not reliably show up in systray" [Closed]16:26
rudyvalenciaOK testing now16:26
rudyvalenciaSo that didn't work16:29
diogenes_Vx15what didn't work?16:29
rudyvalenciaRemoving ayatana-indicator-application16:29
rudyvalenciaNow Remmina doesn't have its tray icon16:30
rudyvalenciaNor does TeamViewer16:30
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia, i think it was called notificatuin area, check this out: https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/systray16:31
rudyvalenciaI don't seem to have one like that16:32
rudyvalenciaIt appears to be called Status Tray Plugin16:32
rudyvalenciaand I already have that in my panel16:32
diogenes_Vx15ok but do you get any tray icons at all?16:33
rudyvalenciaI get HexChat and Bluetooth icons16:33
rudyvalenciaNo Discord, Teamviewer or Remmina icons though16:35
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia, ok i've just tested this discord appimage and it has a tray icon: https://github.com/srevinsaju/discord-appimage/releases/download/stable/Discord-0.0.27-x86_64.AppImage16:38
rudyvalenciawhat kind of packaging is that? I've never used appimage16:38
diogenes_Vx15appimages are like application with all the dependencies in the package itself so it'a like a portable app.16:39
rudyvalenciaah16:39
diogenes_Vx15https://github.com/srevinsaju/discord-appimage/releases16:39
diogenes_Vx15there is all the info ^^^16:40
rudyvalenciaInteresting, I don't get it here16:41
rudyvalenciaI wonder if it's because I'm using an SSSD-managed domain account16:41
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia, run in terminal: grep ^ /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/* | nc termbin.com 999916:43
diogenes_Vx15share the url16:43
rudyvalencia2This is rudyvalencia just on my cellphone16:43
rudyvalenciahttps://termbin.com/tgsrk16:44
rudyvalencia2Works fine on a local (non-domain) account16:46
diogenes_Vx15ok16:46
rudyvalencia2I also see a warning every time I log in with any account16:46
rudyvalencia2"System program problem detected / Do you want to report the problem now? / [ ❌ Cancel ] [ Report problem... ]"16:48
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia2, you can run in terminal: cat .xsession-errors16:49
diogenes_Vx15and see if you can hunt down any errora there, because that16:49
diogenes_Vx15a lot of reading.16:49
rudyvalencia2Okay16:49
rudyvalencia2Logging back into my domain user profile16:50
diogenes_Vx15actually better run: cat .xsession-errors | more16:50
rudyvalencia2Found something in Discord's output to a terminal:16:54
rudyvalencia2"IBUS-WARNING **: 10:53:19.993: Failed to mkdir /home/domainuser.DOMAIN/snap/discord/153/.config/ibus/bus: Not a directory"16:56
diogenes_Vx15rudyvalencia2, have you tried the appimage i've given you?16:57
rudyvalencia2Yes, it doesn't have the IBus error but it also does not show a tray icon16:58
diogenes_Vx15well it works on a different account so you the problem might be in your .config/xfce4 directory16:59
rudyvalencia2I installed IBus and the GTK 2/3/4 support and it's working but now I see extra keyboard indicators in my tray17:00
diogenes_Vx15you can hide that one.17:00
rudyvalencia2Yeah found that17:01
rudyvalencia2All good here. I think IBus was making Discord skip its icon creation routine.17:02
rudyvalencia2*the lack of IBus17:02
rudyvalencia2Ayatana wasn't the issue either *strokes chin*17:03
diogenes_Vx15no i-bus here and it still works, i don't think that's the issue.17:03
rudyvalencia2Okay something must've gone wrong with my profile then17:03
rudyvalencia2But now it's fine, strangely enough17:04
rudyvalencia2*goes off to do other important things*17:06
