surfzoid | hi | 18:05 |
surfzoid | one suggestion, from overview page, there is apt-add-repository ppa:user/repository , it will add last unbutu version of the ppa, for older ubuntu we have a manual way , click on "Technical details about this PPA", then manually tweak /etc/apt, but apt-add-repository ppa:user/distro/repository should be more easy and beautiful | 18:09 |
cjwatson | surfzoid: It makes no actual difference either way except in some edge cases that aren't currently relevant anywhere. | 20:45 |
cjwatson | The newer form is technically slightly more accurate, yes, but it's no more or less "manual". | 20:46 |
cjwatson | Unless you mean something else that I haven't quite managed to parse from your question ... | 20:46 |
Odd_Bloke | I think they're saying that having `apt-add-repository ppa:user/distro/repository` listed under the "Technical details about this PPA" section would simplify the instructions for that case: instead of users having to edit their sources.list (and, e.g., fail to use a .d file), they could simply execute that command. | 21:18 |
rbasak | Isn't that what we already do? I don't understand what the suggestion is that's different from the current state. | 21:26 |
