[08:24] Is anyone officially here? [08:25] !ask | robin_ [08:25] robin_: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) See also !patience [08:29] Doing development, x11/cairo/c++/VScode. The desktop is crashing about .. maybe a dozen times a day. Since isntalling, I've had corrupted apt databases twice in the last week. [08:30] System logs are relatively clean. But when the system goes down, *everything* crashes. [08:31] Seems like some kind of resource leak in the graphical systemsystem, maybe. I'm using XRDP to connect, which probably has something to do with it. But I've had the same issue twice today with direct login. [08:32] Is it just unreasonabel to expect my system to say up for weeks at a time like a Windows or mac desktop? Or like my Raspberry Pi ? [08:35] Trying to decide wheter I just need to moderate my expectations, or whether I need to run this down further. [08:38] Single line quesstions: [08:39] Is XRDP stable on Plasma+Ubuntu 22.0.4? [08:40] I isntalled Ubuntu 22.04/Gnome, and then installed KDE/Plasma. Would I be better with a clean Kubuntu install? [08:42] What's with the borked updates? Is that a normal thing for Ubuntu? Two corrupted "apt update" files, and whant i'm pretty sure was a borked update of libc last week. [08:42] So many single line question! lol [08:43] !patience [08:43] Don't feel ignored and repeat your question quickly; if nobody knows your answer, nobody will answer you. While you wait, try searching https://help.ubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org or https://askubuntu.com/ [08:44] They are all different questions. [08:48] robin_, no clue about the XRDP package in Ubuntu but if you want to compare, you would need to try a different version or even a different system like Debian for instance. [08:49] It just seems like it's desperately in need of a lot love and attention. Like it worked 20 years ago, but none of the cool kids want to spend time keeping it running. [08:50] I've been using Realvnc which is rock stable. but only free on Raspberry Pi. [08:53] Oh. And also Ubuntu 21.x/gnome which had a really nice "Sharing configuration page", that enabled VNC with a single click. [08:53] Am I doing this wrong? [08:55] Remotely share a destop with a windows system on a headless server, with kubuntu 22.04. How do I do it? [08:57] I have Realvnc, and Remote Desktop on the windows system, but no X11... client. [08:58] And Mint, which also provided a simple procedure to enable remote desktop access. [09:01] Single line question: is there an easy way to remotely access a Plasma desktop on a headless Ubuntu 22.0.4 server? [09:02] are you accessing this box from a windows machine? [09:02] Yes. [09:03] why don't you just use WSL? [09:04] Because I don't want to blow half my ram on my main windows development machine on a WSL instance. Iand because I'm developing a realtime audio app. [09:07] Is there any real advantage that wsl brings to the table over running Linux in a VM? [09:07] robin_, here are some suggestions for you from a famous AI: https://pastebin.com/CJ99VVxb [09:08] diogenes_Vx15: : Thanks, but not atually helpful. [09:09] Especially since the famous AI has no memory of anything that happened after 2021. :-P [09:12] Can you ask the famous AI what the most recent release of Ubuntu is? [09:12] diogenes_Vx15: Can you ask the famous AI what the most recent release of Ubuntu is? [09:13] hehe 21.04 [09:14] :-) [09:20] ohh!. Right. It was 22.04/gnome Ubuntu that has single-click enabling of RDP accesss. But it doesn't have a session manager, so you can't put the target machine on a rack in the server room because somebody has to be there to push the OK button. :-/ [09:23] Coming from Windows world, this seems like such basic functionality. :-/ A room full of server racks containing either atual or virtual test machines, all of them headless, that can be accessed by remote desktop (either VNC or RDP). [09:25] Were it not for the fact that I'm doing realtime audio on the target machine, I'd just throw the whole thing in a virtual machine. :-( [09:31] Single line question: Every time a window opens I get a popup window with a green icon and the name of the currently seleted audio adapter. Even Konsole does it. How do I make that stop? [09:48] brb. system is unstable again (running in a direct session) [09:51] k back [09:52] robin_, i suggers you also ask in #ubuntu too, there are a lot more users. [09:57] I suppose. They might have a solution for getting a session manager to run for their one-button RDC solution. I have a hard time with gnome thuugh. It's user iterface that seems to have been designed by 13 circus clowns packed into a clown car. :-( [09:57] Thanks diogenes_Vx15. [09:57] Gnome makes me angry just looking at it. lol [09:58] yep gnome is the most horrible think i have ever seen, [11:10] Hi I've just got this message when I want to browse my 2Nd SSD with Dolphin „Error mounting /dev/sdb1 at /media/linux/samsung: Unknown error when mounting /dev/sdb1 [11:10] This is not the first time. What is wrong? [11:11] Yesterday was everything fine and today I can't reach my data.
