[03:43] hi === doc|home is now known as doc [12:14] hi someone? [12:15] i need help with a xubuntu or xfc installl [12:22] hello? [12:24] what is the more exact question? [12:26] thanks [12:27] its the black window (intramfs) [12:27] when i install xubuntu or linux mint xfce [12:29] i dont know what i do [12:29] and dont find any inf0rmation in the web [12:33] in others distros i use fsck but in that donts works? [12:45] and dont find any inf0rmation in the web [12:51] ok [12:51] its imposible [23:26] Hello there [23:26] What is the purpose of this chatroom/ [23:29] dognose, you can ask questions about support here and someone might be able to point you toward a solution, or might not, depends on who's around [23:29] Xubuntu support (supported releases are 22.04 & 23.04) [23:30] thank you [23:30] * guiverc believes you already knew that [23:30] I'm a noobie for the most part. [23:30] Xubuntu is what exactly? [23:30] dognose: are you named after playstation analog controller? [23:30] they have texture of dog noses [23:31] ^ haha [23:31] Ubuntu Desktop with the Xfce desktop having replaced GNOME (includes desktop & apps) [23:31] I'll google it, but now that is coincidence [23:31] So newest iteration of Ubuntu? [23:31] Or just Gnome? [23:31] I absolutely love Gnome Ubuntu [23:31] So if that is what XUbuntu is, it sounds like I'm in the right channel. [23:31] Xubuntu 22.04 is the same Ubuntu base as Ubuntu 22.04 Desktop; but GNOME & gnome-apps have been replaced by Xfce & Xfce apps - Xfce is much lighter [23:32] ok [23:32] Might be a stupid question, but if I have installed Gnome in Ubuntu, does that mean I then have XUbuntu installed? [23:32] no [23:33] Ubuntu Desktop by default already has GNOME. [23:33] xubuntu is xfce dekstop replacing whatever mainbuntu is running nowadays [23:33] thankx for clarifying, I had it backwards then [23:33] I prefer lighter distros. [23:33] if you want to run xubuntu and you already have ubuntu installed you just need to run sudo apt install xubuntu-desktop [23:33] ^ perfect, you answered my next question thankx [23:34] all Ubuntu flavors (which includes Xubuntu) are built the same way as Ubuntu Desktop; just using different seed files meaning different packages are included by default.. Xubuntu is a Ubuntu system... [23:34] Will that just overwrite everything and automatically default to Xubuntu XFCE stuff> [23:34] ? [23:34] Or is it two different desktop environments installed? [23:34] To toggle / choose from [23:34] no [23:34] Nope, there should be a choice at the login screen. Though you will still have all of GNOME and whatever extras it has too. [23:35] installing xubuntu-desktop will just install the defaults of xubuntu alongside the mainbuntu defaults [23:35] my system has 3 DEs installed; Ubuntu Desktop (thus GNOME), Xubuntu Desktop (thus Xfce) & Lubuntu Desktop (LXQt)... I added what I wanted & select which I use when I login [23:35] ahh ok, you're talking about the bottom right on the login screen? [23:35] maybe? it changes with whatever login manager you're running [23:35] k thankx [23:35] Wow I didn't realize it was that simple to install alternative desktop environments. [23:36] you should be able to chose the desktop from any login manager [23:36] How much battery life would I save on a laptop you think? I get 10 hours or so on Gnome now, will doing XFCE increase battery life a bit you think? [23:37] Maybe, maybe not [23:37] k [23:38] I think your chatroom is more appropriate to be asking Ubuntu related questions. I don't like bothering 1000~ish people lol [23:38] lol [23:38] that's fine [23:38] Thank you [23:38] the only stupid question is the one you don't ask [23:38] I'll change my nick from time to time, as this is just a temporary one [23:38] haha I agree with linux stuff especially. So much to learn. [23:38] Though keep in mind our answeres might be biased, many of us have strong feelings about GNOME. :) [23:38] <.< [23:38] >.> [23:39] i tried gnome3 the other day [23:39] almost screamed my head off [23:39] what a horrible horrible desktop paradigm [23:39] Are they trying to be innovative? [23:39] Like Apple? [23:40] no idea [23:40] Last I knew they were trying to create an interface that worked everywhere, mobile, desktop, etc. So, it works nowhere well. :P [23:40] lol [23:41] yeah that's the feel i got when i was using it [23:41] it was like "this is a touchscreen interface" [23:41] like windows 8 [23:42] oh wait it wasn't gnome3, it was gnome 40 [23:43] gross [23:43] Windows 8 was horrid [23:45] yeah, seems like the gnome devs went "oh yeah windows 8, lets do that" [23:45] so unlike Apple and more like Microsoft lol [23:46] I hope they can find a really intuitive desktop environment that pleases all crowds simultaneously
