LenoxI have xubuntu and I added the gnome DE but it never worked. I really am not a fan of Gnome anyway but how do I get rid of the Gnome selection of my login screen? I've removed Gnome from my system already as far as I can tell21:15
xanguaIf you installed "Ubuntu-desktop" then <sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop>21:24
Lenoxxangua, it shows nothing to remove and nothing to install. I believe it's gone except that gnome option at the login screen which isn't too big of a deal21:59
xanguaSudo apt autoremove ?22:00
Lenoxstill nothing after trying that.22:01

geniimetapackages (like ubuntu-desktop, lubuntu-desktop and all the rest) install their packages which gets marked as manually installed, so trying to uninstall or purge the metapackage name actually has no effect.22:11

Lenox@genii thank you22:12
geniiConceivably you can find a list of dependencies like this one for 20.04 ( focal) https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/focal/amd64/ubuntu-desktop/1.450 and try manually removing them but then you're in what's generally referred to as "dependency hell"22:22
geniiIt's actually faster and saner to just reinstall another version over whatever's currently there 22:23
genii,,a clean install, that is22:23
guivercxangua, apt-get remove will have removed the apps, but not configs; apt-get purge would have achieved removal of configs..    Your login sessions (those you see at greeter/DM) are usually found in /usr/share/xsessions/23:13
