clivejois unattended updates turned on in Ubuntu or Kubuntu?09:22
clivejohistorical I keep auto updates turned off as I have limited internet and like to choose when I update the system.  But recently (past 1-2 weeks) Discover is throwing warnings that the lock file is locked and it looks to be the auto updater 09:27
clivejoIt's still turned off in system settings, so why is it locking the file and installing packages without permission!?09:28
BluesKajHi all12:22
Eickmeyerclivejo: unattended-upgrades is a systemd process and isn't controlled with system settings. "sudo systemctl disable unattended-upgrades.service" will stop it from running at boot. However, I do not recommend for two reasons:15:29
Eickmeyer1) unattended-upgrades cleans old kernels from your /boot except the last two, and 2) it updates snaps for you.15:30
EickmeyerWithout that, 1) your /boot partition, if separate, can fill-up and cause big, big problems, and 2) snaps won't necessarily get updated because they can't run at the same time they're being updated.15:32
EickmeyerI mean, you can do all of that with manual intervention, but you probably don't want that headache of system maintenance.15:33
clivejowell it used to respect System Settings > Software Update > Update Software : Manually until recently 18:39
clivejoI have managed my kernels for years and don't need a "helper" doing it for me without my permission!18:40
clivejoregarding snaps, don't use them and don't want to use them!18:50
