guivercvorlon (#ubuntu-release) asked about https://launchpad.net/bugs/2036999 being flagged for/by us; I don't have a wifi-internet install handy to see (overwritten by last without internet); anyone around with details?  our 'final' image isn't on iso.qa I think b/c of this12:57
-ubottu:#lubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2036999 in ubiquity (Ubuntu) "ubiquity: Wifi password not copied to new install" [High, Fix Released]12:57
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> Reading the bug, it specifically states Ubiquity. Why did we flag it?13:03
guivercto my knowledge we did not.  vorlon asked tsimonq2 (no answer yet) if we were asked about it 13:05
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> I don't know that we were.13:06
guivercI can't recall if wifi was working AFTER-first-boot on new wifi-enabled install; my last install on wifi device was without internet.. so I don't have a wifi enabled mantic to check13:06
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> I can run through a test in a little bit13:06
guivercy13:07
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> I will need to download a daily so it will be a few13:07
* guiverc that was intended for the mkusb window 13:07
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> πŸ‘13:07
guivercthanks kc2bez , i'm writing iso now, but I really wanna go to bed ..13:07
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> I just got up. I need some coffee while I download stuff.13:08
guivercif a problem though, i'm writing current daily... (i'm gonna go clean teeth & other usual stuff.. so can do it in the background)13:08
kc2bezslow downloads are slow13:18
guivercmy zsync was >90% complete at start.. thus still on slow-write-to media (though that's mostly done anyway)13:24
kc2bezWeird mine aborted at the end, I had to start it up again and it finished almost immediately.13:28
kc2bezWriting to disk now13:28
guiverci've just ejected thumb-drive & booting on sony thingy kc2bez 13:29
kc2bezBooting on my Asus thingy 13:34
guiverc:)13:34
* guiverc hopes your thingy has full size keyboard & larger screen than this one13:35
kc2bezIt actually isn't bad. No 10 key on the side so the remainder isn't squished. 13:37
kc2bezRebooting 13:40
guivercmy think is still at initramfs... of install13:41
kc2bezYup, no wireless. 13:41
kc2bez:(13:41
guivercyeah :(  but to me that's not a huge issue; we should only install once, so twice entering a wifi key ain't that bad ...13:42
kc2bezI agree. It is Simon's call but I don't think it should be a release blocker. We need to get it in the release notes though. 13:44
guivercfinally rebooted mine & can confirm I have no internet wifi password on first boot..13:45
guivercthanks kc2bez !13:52
kc2bezThanks to you as well!13:53
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Caught me at a good spot to send vorlon a response with a fix ;)14:05
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> guiverc: Sometimes I don't know how we'd do it without you my friend :)14:05
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Kay, here's my thoughts on RC blocker: yes. It's a regression from the last release and the solution is already easy and known.14:10
lubot[telegram] <teward001> fyi we are in final freeze and release is this week so we need to *fix it* if its a regression14:22
lubot[telegram] <teward001> just sayin14:22
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> NSS (re @teward001: fyi we are in final freeze and release is this week so we need to *fix it* if its a regression)14:26
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> ;)14:26
kc2bezJust so I am clear, we know what the fix is? Or we know what the workaround is? I am feeling a little dense on the actual fix. 14:38
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> I'll respond on -release as soon as I walk in the building here, but I read the Ubiquity fix and we just need to DTRT WRT netplan files. Might need a little tweaking due to, well, using Netplan, but overall I think I can fix that today14:40
tsimonq2I have some local code that, er, *seems* sane enough. I'm going to Frankenstein an install into a qcow2 file (or similar) from a live ISO on my real hardware to test this and see what's up.15:19
-queuebot:#lubuntu-devel- Unapproved: lubuntu-default-settings (mantic-proposed/universe) [23.10.3 => 23.10.4] (lubuntu)16:22
tsimonq2^ That upload sets the wallpaper to per-monitor by default. I ran into it when doing my local testing.16:22
tsimonq2I couldn't get the live ISO to do what I wanted it to, so I have a VM with some static IP settings that have essentially the same effect.16:27
tsimonq2calamares upload incoming with fixes.16:42
tsimonq2@teward001 ^ yes, fixes, actual fixes :P16:43
-queuebot:#lubuntu-devel- Unapproved: calamares (mantic-proposed/universe) [3.3.0-alpha2-0ubuntu5 => 3.3.0-alpha2-0ubuntu6] (lubuntu, ubuntustudio)16:43
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Er... no it doesn't16:46
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> 16:46
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> https://github.com/lubuntu-team/calamares-settings-ubuntu/blob/ubuntu/mantic/common/modules/automirror/automirror.conf#L10 (re @kc2bez: guiverc: That ^ uses https://geoip.ubuntu.com/lookup now. If for some reason that was down you would get New York. That is the fallback default location.)16:46
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Might be able to squeeze in a fix for that, too.16:47
kc2bezAutomirror needs a refactor to parse xml vs json16:48
tsimonq2On it.16:48
kc2bezokie dokie16:48
kc2bezit probably should remove the "partners" section too, that is defunct as well. It has always been commented out so I sort of forgot about it.16:50
kc2bezhttps://github.com/lubuntu-team/calamares-settings-ubuntu/blob/ubuntu/mantic/common/modules/automirror/main.py#L7916:50
tsimonq210-416:50
kc2bezThanks tsimonq2 !16:51
tsimonq2Of course. Tested and uploaded to the archive.17:20
-queuebot:#lubuntu-devel- Unapproved: calamares-settings-ubuntu (mantic-proposed/universe) [1:23.10.3 => 1:23.10.4] (lubuntu, ubuntustudio)17:21
tsimonq2kc2bez: ^^17:22
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> (in -release) 17:21 < tsimonq2> To be clear, at this point Lubuntu has three uploads I'd really like in (or at the very least reviewed) before final. Those are lubuntu-default-settings, calamares, and calamares-settings-ubuntu.17:23
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> TBF the welcome module does use the Ubuntu geoip which is where the timezone in the installer comes from. (re @tsimonq2: Er... no it doesn't17:23
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> 17:23
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> https://github.com/lubuntu-team/calamares-settings-ubuntu/blob/ubuntu/mantic/common/modules/automirror/automirror.conf#L10)17:23
EickmeyerπŸ”§ ➑️ βš™οΈ17:23
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Eventually (probably next cycle) we'll remove that duplication. (re @kc2bez: TBF the welcome module does use the Ubuntu geoip which is where the timezone in the installer comes from.)17:23
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> Sounds good17:23
tsimonq2Eickmeyer: 😎😎😎😎😎😎17:24
EickmeyerπŸ˜‚17:24
tsimonq2πŸ₯·πŸ₯·πŸ₯·πŸ₯·17:24
EickmeyerI think you misunderstood my emojis. That was a wrench into cogs.17:24
tsimonq2Ahhhh, we both know there's no such thing 'round these here parts.17:25
Eickmeyer"Riiiiiight." -Kronk17:26
tsimonq2I think we're set for this cycle, in terms of bugs. If anyone finds something, ping me please :)17:26
Eickmeyer😎17:27
* tsimonq2 watches in horror as Eickmeyer breaks the entire archive on release day17:27
tsimonq2XD17:27
EickmeyerThat depends on if the kernel behaves with USB Midi devices (spoiler: it wasn't earlier).17:28
tsimonq2Bahaha, oooof.17:28
tsimonq2Also, at first sight of a new codename, ping me immediately and we'll get rolling ;)17:28
EickmeyerA new version just hit release, so there will be testing when I get home.17:28
* tsimonq2 throws broken s390x and riscv64 builds at Eickmeyer 17:29
* lubot [matrix] <arraybolt3> shoves an s390x mainframe into tsimonq2's living room17:40
-queuebot:#lubuntu-devel- Unapproved: accepted lubuntu-default-settings [source] (mantic-proposed) [23.10.4]21:45
lubot[telegram] <teward001> *shoves an arraybolt3 into tsimonq2's living room*21:52
EickmeyerTested the kernel with the bug I was experienced before, passed with flying colors.21:58
Eickmeyers/experienced/experiencing21:59
lubot[telegram] <guiverc> the location issue is only not-detected occasionally. (re @tsimonq2: Might be able to squeeze in a fix for that, too.)23:08
lubot[telegram] <kc2bez> Simon's fixes got accepted. We should have something to test later.23:10
guivercack & thanks kc2bez 23:11
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> FWIW... here's the way I tested these things so you guys have a better chance at reproducing them23:22
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Default settings needs a multi monitor setup. You can emulate one with QEMU, or use a real one. Before the upload, the wallpaper should stretch over both screens, after the upload the wallpaper should be specific per-screen.23:23
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> (I think we should also change the wallpaper to not stretch so weirdly in VMs but that's another topic)23:24
kc2bezI can test the multimonitor thing with my laptop23:24
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> With Calamares, it's not limited to WiFi passwords. Configure a static IP in Advanced Network Settings, verify a file shows up in /etc/netplan/90-NM*. Cala is simply making sure that file ends up on the installed system.23:25
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Thanks Dan!23:25
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> With Cala settings, I used sudo iftop to monitor network usage closely during the install. Verify that it only hits Canonical servers and sets up the right sources.list on reboot23:26
kc2bezThanks to you as well!23:26
guivercfyi: i use many multi-desktops in live testing; and dc7700 is used for install testing & is multi-monitor (on occasion I install test on other boxes; d780 also two monitors)   The mantic wallpaper works for me in my testing (in fact I love it especially on one multi-monitor system though it has different size monitors but colors just work so well there)23:26
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> No worries :)23:26
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> guiverc: It may work but does it scale weird by default? :)23:28
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> I'm thinking those three packages were accepted right around a Britney run. Default settings got picked up, the rest are waiting on the next run (or even one following that for autopkgtests)23:30
kc2bezI'm watching23:30
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> 🍿23:31
guivercmy hpdc7700, dell.780 use an old dell 4:3 monitor & 16:10 which have very different DPI as well as proportions, the mantic wallpaper just looked great on that (esp. dc7700, as d780 swaps left & right around by default due connection)23:31
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Yeah my laptop does that too... how far did we get with diagnosing random monitor swaps between SDDM and the desktop?23:31
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> That might be an @arraybolt3 question ;) ^^23:32
lubot[matrix] <arraybolt3> I actually never experienced that problem so I can't be of much help there.23:32
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Ah, got it. Thanks anyway man :)23:33
lubot[matrix] <arraybolt3> I didn't do much but glad to at least try to help :P23:33
lubot[matrix] <arraybolt3> (I was sitting here watching the conversation while doing other work)23:34
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> This next cycle I also want to solve one of my biggest pet peeves... QTerminal text autowrapping. If you open a small terminal window, run sudo apt update, then resize it to be bigger, you know what I'm talking about23:34
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> @arraybolt3 I often do the same ;)23:34
lubot[telegram] <Roberalz> I am doing the same (re @lubuntu_bot: (matrix) <arraybolt3> (I was sitting here watching the conversation while doing other work))23:35
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> I asked the KDE President (who I'm sure @Eickmeyer also met) in person about that issue, and he said "meh, don't fork Konsole, use it as-is" well thanks :/ (re @tsimonq2: This next cycle I also want to solve one of my biggest pet peeves... QTerminal text autowrapping. If you open a small terminal window, run sudo apt update, then resize it to be bigger, you know what I'm talking about)23:36
lubot[telegram] <Roberalz> I'm always in the shadows (re @tsimonq2: @arraybolt3 I often do the same ;))23:36
lubot[telegram] <Roberalz> XD23:36
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> I'd argue you're even less in the shadows than we are ;)23:36
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Let us just take a moment to recognize23:37
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Lubuntu's espaΓ±ol channel on Telegram has FOUR HUNDRED MEMBERS!23:37
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> You and everyone else there are doing great work :)23:37
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Thank you for helping manage one of our biggest groups23:38
kc2bezIt is busy over there, I can confirm.23:38
kc2bezIt is great to see23:38
lubot[telegram] <Roberalz> Jajajaja, yes. It's a good amount of people. (re @tsimonq2: Lubuntu's espaΓ±ol channel on Telegram has FOUR HUNDRED MEMBERS!)23:39
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> I'll bring that up to Phillip in person... we created these almost-LOCOs for Lubuntu users, but e.g. I've had requests from Ubuntu-IT to consolidate :)23:40
lubot[telegram] <Roberalz> It's always a pleasure (re @tsimonq2: Thank you for helping manage one of our biggest groups)23:40
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> The Spanish group is pretty darn untouchable :)23:40
lubot[matrix] <arraybolt3> Roberalz: I really enjoyed getting to help in the Spanish IRC channel every so often back when I was there. Hopefully I'll get to do it again once I can come back :)23:43
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> Yep. He helped me get the variables set for Ubuntu Studio so that the theming could be used in both Wayland and X11 without breakage. (re @tsimonq2: I asked the KDE President (who I'm sure @Eickmeyer also met) in person about that issue, and he said "meh, don't fork Konsole, use it as-is" well thanks :/)23:45
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> Took a bit of coding gymnastics further than what we did, but it started the process.23:46
lubot[telegram] <Roberalz> I really enjoy the friends I have here, it is always a pleasure to be with you. (re @lubuntu_bot: (matrix) <arraybolt3> Roberalz: I really enjoyed getting to help in the Spanish IRC channel every so often back when I was there. Hopefully I'll get to do it again once I can come back :))23:46
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> We have a potentially large Spanish-speaking Edubuntu base that is likely to get larger with 24.04 and the RasPI images. I have someone who's going to be on the team that runs a computer lab in Mexico full of Pis that he wants running Edubuntu.23:51
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> There is even a dedicated edubuntu-es ML that I wouldn't mind him running eventually.23:53
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Very nice :) I hope him and friends are there again (re @Eickmeyer: Took a bit of coding gymnastics further than what we did, but it started the process.)23:56
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> I agree completely :) (re @Roberalz: I really enjoy the friends I have here, it is always a pleasure to be with you.)23:56
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Very very nice! (re @Eickmeyer: We have a potentially large Spanish-speaking Edubuntu base that is likely to get larger with 24.04 and the RasPI images. I have someone who's going to be on the team that runs a computer lab in Mexico full of Pis that he wants running Edubuntu.)23:56
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> The issue that I'd like to talk more in-detail about with someone like Phillipp is, a merge between Ubuntu-wide communities would be cool but it should be friendly and not a large, forced merger (re @Eickmeyer: There is even a dedicated edubuntu-es ML that I wouldn't mind him running eventually.)23:57
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> Well, after a 9-year hiatus for Edubuntu it is only potential, but the interest is there.23:57
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Carpe diem :)23:58
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> No, you misunderstand. It's already a thing on l.u.c (re @tsimonq2: The issue that I'd like to talk more in-detail about with someone like Phillipp is, a merge between Ubuntu-wide communities would be cool but it should be friendly and not a large, forced merger)23:58
lubot[telegram] <tsimonq2> Oh?23:58
lubot[telegram] <Eickmeyer> Always has been. πŸŒŽπŸ”«23:58
