Myrttigood morning08:43
davefMorning all12:24
penguin42hey12:31
* zxmpi hugs first mug of tea of the day and wonders why i am awake at this ungodly hour 12:33
davef1pm is ungodly? .. i'm 5hrs behind ya.12:34
davefnot even done with breakfast12:34
zxmpididn't fall asleep until after 5am for insomnia reasons12:34
davefoof.. that sucks12:35
zxmpiit really does12:35
penguin42yeh it's annoying when that happens12:35
penguin42too hot? too cold? uncomfortable? brain stuck in a loop?12:37
davefi've dealt with acute insomnia from time to time, mostly stress reasons. i feel ya bud. here's hoping you get a good night sleep soon! 12:38
penguin42I'll take the sleep whenever it comes, preferably nightish, but hey...12:38
zxmpisleep cycle fecked when my hip went bad. never came back. i get 4ish hours sleep but it can take time for it to happen. it's /fun/12:46
penguin42last couple of weeks have not been good for my sleep; we've had a builder in which has stopped my 10:30am wake up time; plus I've got an alarm fault I need to track down which woke us up at 4am12:47
davefi just need a new bed. but i'm cheap and the canadian dollar is practically worthless these days.12:48
* penguin42 also needs a new mattress; the old one is old, and my back is also old; the two are a bad combination12:49
penguin42it doesnt help that my bedframe is a size that's not common in the UK12:50
davefmine is a $400 ikea mattress i bought almost 5 years ago. it was supposed to be temporary while i got financially stable again. well, i'm there.. but did i replace the mattress? of course not, because I have a hard time spending money on myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯12:51
zxmpitime for the matress to have an 'accident' so you have to replace it12:52
zxmpipercussion maintenance, advanced classes12:52
davefoh no, because that will dip into the lego budget12:53
zxmpicould build a lego bed...12:54
penguin42nobbly12:54
zxmpisome sort of non lego mattress...12:55
penguin42unless you make it from Lego tyres12:55
zxmpibiggest tyre manufacturer on the planet12:55
penguin42(** by count)12:56
zxmpiobviously12:56
penguin42I wonder how they actually compare in volume12:57
zxmpiabout 10k lego tyres = 1 car tyre?12:57
zxmpii'm sure someone has done the math12:57
davefYeah, so the mattress I do want is $6000, that's before tax.. https://www.dormezvous.com/fr/matelas-tempur-pedic-probreeze-sarcelle-20/product/12372M12:58
penguin42I guess I was thinking of the bigger Technics12:58
penguin42davef: There are a lot of Tempur clones now12:58
zxmpimaybe 1k of those to make 1 car tyre?12:58
davefYeah, there's Purple and Casper here .. I really need to go try them12:59
zxmpiup to 59g for big ones http://www.wheels.sariel.pl/ probably includes the hub so we'd need a better number13:02
zxmpioops 188g13:02
Myrttiah, time to run. laters13:13
daftykinsgreetings \o13:40
daftykins50% success rate getting my ears syringed just now, one has cleared so she said13:44
daftykinsfunky sensation, that one13:44
davefjust blasted my nose with one of them neti things.. feels like drowning each time, but by heck does it unblock it.13:53
daftykinsah the netti pots, i've been curious about trying those13:54
daftykinsdoes it give a pretty satisfying feeling of decongestion in your whole head in general too?13:54
daftykinsprobably all kinds of gunk builds up in there during our lives13:54
daveffirst time i used it, i had a headache caused by congestion.. headache almost instantly went away14:00
daftykinsvery cool!14:01
daftykinsdoes seem like an exercise in gymnastics, somehow tilting your head over a sink maybe and trying to breathe through your mouth whilst you drown your nose xD14:01
daftykinscan't think of the right term - is it just purified water you use with that?14:02
davefyeah, has to be that de-ionized or specifically filtered water .. pharmacist should be able to tell you which one14:13
daftykins*nod* 14:13
davefyou can use boiled and cooled water, but i don't trust myself enough not to get that wrong14:13
daftykinsyeah same14:13
daftykinsi'm not aware of any issues but the thought that i could feel even better from a 'simple' procedure is kind of interesting14:14
davefbasically it's water with most of the impurities removed and anything that could cause an infection14:14
daftykinsja14:15
davefI do it about once a day now. End of summer/early to mid autumn is allergy season for me. So far, I've not had to resort to any kind of steroid nasal spray.14:16
daftykinsi read that people can easily make mistakes with those sprays and end up with a druggies septum hole :O14:16
davefYeah, they're super addictive. 14:17
daftykinsooh err14:17
davefHaving been on them and struggled to get off.. I want to avoid it.14:17
daftykinswise move imo14:18
davefBecause you can get the rebound effect, using it more than recommended can make symptoms worse. The nasal spray provides relief but it gets shorter and shorter, requiring more frequent use.14:18
daftykinsoh that's nasty14:20
daftykinspenguin42: fun update to that docment conversion i began to work on today, didn't notice the secondary brunt of the docs is now a 700 KB JPEG logo someone inserted without making doc appropriate xD 17:51
daftykinsa buddy threw some quick python together to pop in and substitute each for a single pixel, a 499 KB .docx dropped to 6 KB on a first manual test!17:52
zxmpi700k jpg... should stuck it in as a bmp :-)17:52
daftykinslol, they as well have17:52
daftykinsit was probably pinched from a website and tossed in - 1300x something resolution17:53
zxmpisuprised they didn't embed it in a word doc and put that in the pdf/docx too :-P17:53
daftykinsi am somewhat puzzled how they ended up with the 6,900 KB RTFs to begin17:54
penguin42daftykins: I've seen things like a document with a table or spreadsheet where each entry has a style applied18:02
zxmpiplus embedded fonts :-)18:03
daftykinshaha18:04
daftykinsdue to the /year/month/ hierarchy i can tell you when they began using the flawed new template + when they changed18:04
daftykinsplus when they got an in-house x-ray vs. kept doing referrals18:04
daftykinsfinal results on pass #1! 34 GB -> 2.72 GB18:18
zxmpinoice18:36
daftykinsah such a good result, the practice software directory went from 63.2 GB -> 29.6 GB from that :)20:48
zxmpia day of victories20:55
daftykins\o/20:56
penguin42daftykins: You've got a terrible business model; you'd have to explain it to the cloud providers; charging for data your clients dont store21:00
daftykinslol21:00
zxmpinah he rents out the saved space to other customers, win win :-P21:10
penguin42actually he runs it through daftykins's script and hopes the other customers don't notice21:11
daftykinsso far we're all against any cloud backup since anything off-island for these dentists would be subject to different regs21:12
daftykinscan't say i disagree21:12
penguin42oh hmm interesting, so now island cloud?22:16
daftykinsi do have a spare 2U 12 x 3.5" server that i've considered hosting co-lo locally22:17
daftykinsnot sure what the £££ would be though22:17
daftykinsthen i could pipe to that from client premises22:17
penguin42the trick is to host in at least a couple of the islands and run a fibre ring22:55
daftykinsthe data centres are those of the 2 big ISPs, so they ought to be well connected :D22:57
daftykinsto bed! g'night23:38
