=== Rhvs is now known as Rhys [08:43] good morning [12:24] Morning all [12:31] hey [12:33] * zxmpi hugs first mug of tea of the day and wonders why i am awake at this ungodly hour [12:34] 1pm is ungodly? .. i'm 5hrs behind ya. [12:34] not even done with breakfast [12:34] didn't fall asleep until after 5am for insomnia reasons [12:35] oof.. that sucks [12:35] it really does [12:35] yeh it's annoying when that happens [12:37] too hot? too cold? uncomfortable? brain stuck in a loop? [12:38] i've dealt with acute insomnia from time to time, mostly stress reasons. i feel ya bud. here's hoping you get a good night sleep soon! [12:38] I'll take the sleep whenever it comes, preferably nightish, but hey... [12:46] sleep cycle fecked when my hip went bad. never came back. i get 4ish hours sleep but it can take time for it to happen. it's /fun/ [12:47] last couple of weeks have not been good for my sleep; we've had a builder in which has stopped my 10:30am wake up time; plus I've got an alarm fault I need to track down which woke us up at 4am [12:48] i just need a new bed. but i'm cheap and the canadian dollar is practically worthless these days. [12:49] * penguin42 also needs a new mattress; the old one is old, and my back is also old; the two are a bad combination [12:50] it doesnt help that my bedframe is a size that's not common in the UK [12:51] mine is a $400 ikea mattress i bought almost 5 years ago. it was supposed to be temporary while i got financially stable again. well, i'm there.. but did i replace the mattress? of course not, because I have a hard time spending money on myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ [12:52] time for the matress to have an 'accident' so you have to replace it [12:52] percussion maintenance, advanced classes [12:53] oh no, because that will dip into the lego budget [12:54] could build a lego bed... [12:54] nobbly [12:55] some sort of non lego mattress... [12:55] unless you make it from Lego tyres [12:55] biggest tyre manufacturer on the planet [12:56] (** by count) [12:56] obviously [12:57] I wonder how they actually compare in volume [12:57] about 10k lego tyres = 1 car tyre? [12:57] i'm sure someone has done the math [12:58] Yeah, so the mattress I do want is $6000, that's before tax.. https://www.dormezvous.com/fr/matelas-tempur-pedic-probreeze-sarcelle-20/product/12372M [12:58] I guess I was thinking of the bigger Technics [12:58] davef: There are a lot of Tempur clones now [12:58] maybe 1k of those to make 1 car tyre? [12:59] Yeah, there's Purple and Casper here .. I really need to go try them [13:02] up to 59g for big ones http://www.wheels.sariel.pl/ probably includes the hub so we'd need a better number [13:02] oops 188g [13:13] ah, time to run. laters [13:40] greetings \o [13:44] 50% success rate getting my ears syringed just now, one has cleared so she said [13:44] funky sensation, that one [13:53] just blasted my nose with one of them neti things.. feels like drowning each time, but by heck does it unblock it. [13:54] ah the netti pots, i've been curious about trying those [13:54] does it give a pretty satisfying feeling of decongestion in your whole head in general too? [13:54] probably all kinds of gunk builds up in there during our lives [14:00] first time i used it, i had a headache caused by congestion.. headache almost instantly went away [14:01] very cool! [14:01] does seem like an exercise in gymnastics, somehow tilting your head over a sink maybe and trying to breathe through your mouth whilst you drown your nose xD [14:02] can't think of the right term - is it just purified water you use with that? [14:13] yeah, has to be that de-ionized or specifically filtered water .. pharmacist should be able to tell you which one [14:13] *nod* [14:13] you can use boiled and cooled water, but i don't trust myself enough not to get that wrong [14:13] yeah same [14:14] i'm not aware of any issues but the thought that i could feel even better from a 'simple' procedure is kind of interesting [14:14] basically it's water with most of the impurities removed and anything that could cause an infection [14:15] ja [14:16] I do it about once a day now. End of summer/early to mid autumn is allergy season for me. So far, I've not had to resort to any kind of steroid nasal spray. [14:16] i read that people can easily make mistakes with those sprays and end up with a druggies septum hole :O [14:17] Yeah, they're super addictive. [14:17] ooh err [14:17] Having been on them and struggled to get off.. I want to avoid it. [14:18] wise move imo [14:18] Because you can get the rebound effect, using it more than recommended can make symptoms worse. The nasal spray provides relief but it gets shorter and shorter, requiring more frequent use. [14:20] oh that's nasty [17:51] penguin42: fun update to that docment conversion i began to work on today, didn't notice the secondary brunt of the docs is now a 700 KB JPEG logo someone inserted without making doc appropriate xD [17:52] a buddy threw some quick python together to pop in and substitute each for a single pixel, a 499 KB .docx dropped to 6 KB on a first manual test! [17:52] 700k jpg... should stuck it in as a bmp :-) [17:52] lol, they as well have [17:53] it was probably pinched from a website and tossed in - 1300x something resolution [17:53] suprised they didn't embed it in a word doc and put that in the pdf/docx too :-P [17:54] i am somewhat puzzled how they ended up with the 6,900 KB RTFs to begin [18:02] daftykins: I've seen things like a document with a table or spreadsheet where each entry has a style applied [18:03] plus embedded fonts :-) [18:04] haha [18:04] due to the /year/month/ hierarchy i can tell you when they began using the flawed new template + when they changed [18:04] plus when they got an in-house x-ray vs. kept doing referrals [18:18] final results on pass #1! 34 GB -> 2.72 GB [18:36] noice [20:48] ah such a good result, the practice software directory went from 63.2 GB -> 29.6 GB from that :) [20:55] a day of victories [20:56] \o/ [21:00] daftykins: You've got a terrible business model; you'd have to explain it to the cloud providers; charging for data your clients dont store [21:00] lol [21:10] nah he rents out the saved space to other customers, win win :-P [21:11] actually he runs it through daftykins's script and hopes the other customers don't notice [21:12] so far we're all against any cloud backup since anything off-island for these dentists would be subject to different regs [21:12] can't say i disagree [22:16] oh hmm interesting, so now island cloud? [22:17] i do have a spare 2U 12 x 3.5" server that i've considered hosting co-lo locally [22:17] not sure what the £££ would be though [22:17] then i could pipe to that from client premises [22:55] the trick is to host in at least a couple of the islands and run a fibre ring [22:57] the data centres are those of the 2 big ISPs, so they ought to be well connected :D [23:38] to bed! g'night
