Guest2376I hope someone here is fairly familiar with Kernel Panic errors, getting this from the live image (gurned to usb) with checksums verified, for 23.10 on kubuntu, Ubuntu Sutdio live images, as well as when attempted to do an upgrade from 23.04...  the upgrade  does give a unable to mount / (the uuid for the / drive), rebuilding  the intramsfs does not change the error...03:07
matsamanGuest2376: why're you using a live OS?03:08
Guest2376the system is a Ryzen 5 5600x with 64 gig 3200 ddr4 ram, AMD rx 6600 video03:08
Guest2376it was as a test,  also used as a troubleshooting tool.03:09
matsamanGuest2376: which image did you download?03:11
Guest237623.10 for Kubuntu, 23.10 for Ubuntu Studio.  Both same kernel panic error.   the only one with more info was the upgrade build which added the unable to mount /03:12
matsamandid you try 23.04?03:13
Guest2376currently runnning it. no issues.  on the upgrade using the advanced setting in grub was able to run it with the 6.2.0-34 kernel03:14
Guest2376but not the 6.5 kernel03:15
matsamanprobably just something hinky with the kernel in the live images03:15
matsamanvs ryzen 503:15
Guest2376part of the live image for troubleshooting was year ago. had wehere the live image would not work at all but an upgrade from previous version would..03:16
Guest2376years ago*03:17
matsamanmmm, probably the kernel03:17
Guest2376if its something to do with the Kernel and what was a previous gen cpu that could spell alot of unhappy people...03:20
matsamanif you're concerned, file a bug =)03:21
Guest2376not much data to collect as I cann't even get to a terminal (hard locked)03:22
matsamanthat's okay03:22
carpatuI have a problem, after using the pc at high capacity (compiling and gaming) for 2 days without shutdown it will freeze03:28
ruserI have pub key in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys  and ssh permits password logins.  I assume priority falls onto the key?  If so, what might the the reason for it to not authenticate using my ssh-ed25519 key?03:28
carpatuthe way the freeze behaves is like this: it just happens almost gradually... it starts freezing more and more and the mouse becomes more and more unresponsive (it takes 5 seconds for full freeze)03:28
carpatumy guess is the memory being filled03:29
rusersounds like thermal throttling03:29
carpatu0 of that no03:29
carpatuthe process is 5 seconds of more and more freezed up03:30
carpatuand then I have to restart03:30
carpatuso that's why I guessed memory03:31
carpatuI am unable to check the memory cause it doesnt respond03:31
carpatuI may suck at wording: I am not gaming for 2 days, its more like in qurters of 3 hours a day03:32
carpatuand after 2 days its freeze time03:32
carpatudoesnt happen on windows03:33
gryyou need to monitor your resouces usage and log it to file. there are packages for that03:33
grylike 'atop' carpatu03:36
carpatuill try03:36
gryset it to run every 30 mins maybe03:37
carpatuyeah that can detect a memory leak03:42
=== Guest2376 is now known as RjG
carpatubut what the memory looks before freeze is what I am interested in, which sounds easy but is not03:42
carpatubut ill use atop for now, don't have high hopes for this03:43
RjGone thing to look for on memory leaks is an increasing usage level, this can also include the swap disc/file usage.03:44
ruser[providing some clarity on my prev question] any idea why ssh key auth might be failing even if i am explicitly  telling it to use a particular key.  I'm using  ssh-ed25519  server accepts debug1: kex_input_ext_info: server-sig-algs=<ssh-ed25519,..>  among other things, and yet still fallsback to a pwd auth03:49

_spk_hello, anyone able to assit with a problem with snaps I'm having on 23.04?12:10
lotuspsychje!details | _spk_12:18
ubottu_spk_: Please elaborate; your question or issue may not seem clear or detailed enough for people to help you. Please give more detailed information; for example, we might need errors, steps, relevant configuration files, Ubuntu version, and hardware information. Use a !pastebin to avoid flooding the channel.12:18
amduserUS Hi all, thank you in advance, my issue is as in https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubuntu/comments/176gxgw/ubuntu_2310_screen_lock_and_suspend_issues_worked/ I have been using the XORG login through the gear icon as prescribed and it seems there's an upstream fix in mutter as in https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/mutter/-/merge_requests/111 but I don't know how to just update to the upstream mutter through apt .. thank you12:22
-ubottu:#ubuntu- Merge 111 in gnome-team/mutter "Add kms-Inhibit-kernel-thread-on-amdgpu.patch" [Closed]12:22
amduserUSubottu, yes, just don't know how to update it through apt ... just that component, thank you12:23
_spk_so the problem is refreshing snaps is failing. I'm getting an error message suggesting snap thinks my home diretory is outside of /home... but it's not12:25
amduserUSwhen i do apt upgrade mutter it says The following NEW packages will be installed:12:26
amduserUS  mutter12:26
amduserUSubottu, that is really all i need to figure out, been googling, thank you ... don't come on here really at all just patiently here12:29

amduserUSBluesKaj, kinda clueless figure i'd come on, asked a question a while back and not sure what the protocol or the wait may be how do i procede ?13:23
BluesKajamduserUS, just ask your question with a short description of what isn't working and someone who knows the answer will respond13:25
lotuspsychjeamduserUS: acording to the upstream bug ID, its already in good hands with daniel vvugt, says a fix will land in 45.113:27
amduserUSthank you BluesKaj ... lotuspsychje also thank you ... perhaps i misintrepreted that as 45.1 being already available and no clue on how to JUST update mutter, thank you13:28
lotuspsychjeamduserUS: updates in ubuntu will come to you at the right time13:29
lotuspsychjeamduserUS: but for testing purposes you could try !backports or proposed13:29
amduserUSlotuspsychje, others not a noob but i can't even remember the last time i was on here ... oh, lotuspsychje i have to wait for it in repositories ? might have to google how to go about backport/proposed thank you again any additional info is appreciated13:30
BluesKajamduserUS, also make sure your package manager is set for automatic updates13:31
lotuspsychjeamduserUS: wich ubuntu release are you currently on with wich mutter version?13:31
Guest62hi13:31
amduserUSlotuspsychje, is the mutter --version or how do i check .. whichever came with 23.1013:31
lotuspsychje!info mutter mantic13:32
ubottumutter (45.0-3ubuntu3, mantic): Example window manager using GNOME's window manager library. In component universe, is extra. Built by mutter. Size 109 kB / 196 kB. (Only available for linux-any.)13:32
Guest62Does anyone know how i can get gnome to show all windows belonging to an app rather than all open windows when i click on an app in the bar that has more than one window?13:32
JanCmutter isn't installed by default13:33
amduserUSfigured out apt show mutter .. mutter-common (>= 45.0-3ubuntu3)13:34
JanCwhen you say "apt upgrade mutter" when it isn't installed yet, APT will install it instead, and thus it will be a new package13:34
lotuspsychjeGuest62: you could try dconf-editor and checkout the settings on click-action value (dash to dock)13:34
Guest62lotuspsychje i've got dconf-editor, do you know where the config is that i need to change? Sorry i've never used this before13:36
lotuspsychjeGuest62: there's a search field ontop, type click-action there13:37
_spk_I am guessing that I'm going to have to ask on snapcraft re: my snap refresh issue13:37
lotuspsychje_spk_: its ok to re-ask in this channel once in a while, togheter with your paste error13:38
Guest62lotuspsychje thanks that worked. I changed it to minimize or previews13:42
lotuspsychjeGuest62: welcome!13:43

amduserUSokay thank you JanC i was admittedly confused with what it stated14:05
JanCyou probably don't need mutter, just libmutter & its dependencies  :)14:07
amduserUSJanC, i can google, but if you can quickly how do i enable the proposed repositories please and thank you14:09
amduserUSJanc also how do i just get libmutter or may be the same question14:09
JanCthere is a checkbox "Pre-release updates" in the "Developer Options" tab in the "Software & Updates" configuration dialog, but you should only do that if a developer on Launchpad (the Ubuntu bug tracker) asks you to test something14:16
