[00:01] I had an eventful day [00:01] had to evacuate my apartment complex as the building was on fire [00:02] for most of the afternoon I was wondering if I were going to have a home tonight. Thankfully the fire service responded quickly and got it under control. [00:03] my apartment still smells like smoke, but there's no damage, structural or otherwise. [00:09] eek! [00:10] davef: Was this one other apartment on fire? [00:12] It started on the 1st floor, I'm on the 8th. [00:12] but it was an apartment that lines up with mine [00:12] so all the smoke was coming up into my apartment. so when I left I got a face full of smoke [00:13] my apartment complex is weird, the corridors are exposed to the elements [00:19] many of the other apartments damaged? [00:19] at least 2, maybe 3. [00:19] :S holy moly, glad they sorted it [00:19] I didn't go rubbernecking [00:20] yeh, well, glad you didn't get roasted [00:20] is it taking much effort to clear the smoke smell out of yours then? [00:21] It's not so bad now. I had the foresight to close all doors and windows before I vacated. [00:21] ah har [00:21] a client of mine was just telling me that a painter he had in had left all his windows wide open ahead of the storm that passed over here [00:22] twice in a row, too :S [00:22] ...and it now needs redecorating... [00:23] yeah lots of water came in apparently [00:38] this was the start of it .. https://imgur.com/a/KcCRX33 [00:43] yeah that's pretty ominous [00:44] https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzSCjkIp0tf [01:01] looks like it's made out of good solid concrete exterior [01:01] It is [01:01] But stuff can still get hot and start fires in other apartments [01:01] lucky none o' that famous cladding was in use [01:02] nod [01:02] this building is mostly concrete. there's no asbestos, nothing that could really do damage [07:05] glad your stuff wasn't damaged and you still have a roof over your head :-/ [16:32] zxmpi: do you not? [16:35] ? [16:35] have a roof over your head following the storm :o [16:37] nah, storm missed ireland barring a tonne of rain. just glad that penguin42 still has a roof is all [16:38] ah, well davef had the (nearby) fire! [16:38] zxmpi: It's wet here, but not too windy [16:39] mind if the rain had of kept going as it was we'd be looking for estimates from noah [16:39] Nearby? It was downstairs [16:39] yeah that's near [16:39] at least in my definition of the word o0 [16:40] zxmpi: the garden is a bit like a moat; but the rivers seem to be coping OK https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/station/5095 [16:42] unusually I haven't been out today, not been able to spot a gap in the announced rain [16:46] you don't have a home made rasp pi rain radar in the window? :-P [16:46] it would get pretty depressed in Manchester [16:47] call it marvin so [16:49] I was watching the Metoffices predictions and rain radar and predictions on that and hmm there was a promising window that disappeared
