klindahow can I install telgram, zotero, obsidian, discord that gets update automatically?16:44
stuffandthingshave you checked flathub?16:49
klindawhy not snap?16:49
barnabythe discord client is definitely available on flathub and should get automatic updates16:50
stuffandthingsi suppose its on there too16:50
klindaI mean what is the difference using snap, or flathub16:50
klindaor other things16:50
stuffandthingsfrom a strict usability standpoint, probably not much16:51
barnabyflathub is much better integrated into kde Discover than snaps, in my experience. I installed snap integration for discover but still have to update snaps manually in the terminal16:51
stuffandthingsoh damn16:51
stuffandthingsthats a shame16:52
klindahow can I enable this flathub?16:52
stuffandthingsi uninstalled snap16:52
barnabyklinda: search for the Discover Flatpak backend and install it16:53
stuffandthingsthen you also have to add the main flathub16:54
klindahttps://apps.kde.org/discover.flatpak/16:54
klinda?16:54
stuffandthingsin settings under flatpak16:54
spinocchiany idea why my KUBUNTU keeps taking screen shots randomly?16:54
barnabyklinda: that looks like the right one, yes16:55
spinocchivia spectacle16:55
stuffandthingsnormally the prntscreen key triggers spectacle16:55
stuffandthingsis it possible that the spectacle trigger got reassigned?16:55
barnabymaybe check both the spectacle and system-wide custom key shortcuts?16:56
spinocchihmm, okay will check thank you!16:56
stuffandthingsspeaking of flatpaks, is there anyway to save a .flatpak file off of flathub?16:56
barnabySpectacle -> Configure -> Shortcuts, and Settings -> Workspace -> Shortcuts16:57
spinocchiDefault is None on Current Monitor and Active Window16:57
spinocchiCapture Active Window is Default Meta+Print...16:57
spinocchiwould that cause this to happen?!16:57
barnabydoes spectacle randomly start with no input, or can you narrow down what input might be causing it?16:58

klindabut for the dark mode one should get the breeze dark?17:01
stuffandthingsyou could17:02
stuffandthingsthere are other colour themes too, though17:02
stuffandthingsi love that kde still has that17:02
stuffandthingsother OSs and DEs kinda ditched colour options only to bring back one dark one17:03
stuffandthingsKDE never ditched them17:03
stuffandthingsnate and the rest have to be some of the best GUI devs out there17:04
klindaI have home that size is 28 gb, and I can only track one folder of 11 gb, how is possibile?17:58
stuffandthingsruled out hidden files?18:00
klindaI have .cache18:01
klindawith a lot of gb18:01
stuffandthingsi always clear out my cache folder18:02
stuffandthingswell not always, but i make btrfs snaps with timeshift and always clear it out of the cache folders on the snapshots18:03
stuffandthingsif your really irked by those kind of things you could install bleachbit18:04
stuffandthings*youre18:04
klindawell I have only a partiton of 50 gb for kde18:05
klindaI have 11 gb just for conda enviroment18:06
klindastill showing 28.9 gb18:06
stuffandthingsrefresh the folder18:07
stuffandthingsdolphins display of free space in the bottom-right corner isnt realtime, you need to refresh or change folders18:08
klindamaybe is a bit bugged18:09
klindabecause on bottom I see like 17 gb18:09
klindahow much space has kde?18:09
klindakubuntu*18:09
klinda20 gb?18:09
stuffandthingsprobably not but theres also the swap file18:10
stuffandthingswhich will be about as big as your ram, i think18:10
klindayeah I need to increase the size I think18:10
stuffandthingsi still use a swap partition18:11
stuffandthingsim not sure of btrfs supports a swapfile yet18:11
klindais there a gui thing to see all the space size of folders and things?18:12
stuffandthingsthere is, i forget the name18:12
stuffandthingsill see if i can find it18:12
stuffandthingstheres filelight or kdiskfree18:12
IrcsomeBot_<Krise77> Hi guys, need some advice here. I installed kubuntu next to windows, dual boot. I have Lenovo yoga laptop with only 250 gb hard drive , and I didn't left enough space for windows for only program I use there. Now , how can I reparation the hard drive , or mabe is even better if I leave all for windows, as I don't store any data on laptop but external drive, and start kubuntu from USB drive for dayly use ?18:14
stuffandthingsusing linux on a usb isnt great, you wont have changes stick unless you set persistence and that only saves stuff in the home folder, irrc18:16
stuffandthingsyou could boot into the usb and delete the linux partition, resize the widows one and than reinstall linux on the smaller one18:17
stuffandthingsor just resize both, but that will take longer18:17
IrcsomeBot_<Krise77> Thank you !!18:18
stuffandthingsor if youre on windows and you can fit aomei partition manager on there, that will do resize stuff decently18:18
stuffandthingsno prob18:19
stuffandthingsi cant remember for sure but i think aomei can just resize both of them at once18:20
klindayep I will do that now18:20
stuffandthingsis anyone on kubuntu 23.10?18:21
klindaI am on lts18:21
IrcsomeBot_<Krise77> So the live USB is good for only trying linuxs system and installing it ? No point of running the system ? Can not install programs and save files if USB is big enough ?18:21
stuffandthingsreason i asked is because on 23.10, if i copy a file over another, dolphin crashes, always18:22
stuffandthingson live usb, on install and on vmware18:22
stuffandthingsIrcsomeBot_ its been a while since ive tried but i dont think installed stuff lasts over reboots18:23
stuffandthingsnot to mention performance is left on the table18:24
IrcsomeBot_<Krise77> 👍 Thanks18:31
stuffandthingsdesktop snow just came out apparently https://store.kde.org/p/210443519:14
stuffandthingssweet, i now have 19 wallpaper types19:18
user|7Hi, i had a issue and i've been to reinstall xorg and kde, at this moment I lost the Kubuntu predeterminate theme, where can i get it?21:07
stuffandthingssudo apt install plasma-theme-oxygen21:11
klindayeah finally got 300 gb for home and the root / to ssd21:17
klindahome is on hd21:17
stuffandthingsnice21:17
user|7Thank you! stuffandthings21:17
stuffandthingsuser|7 no prob21:17
stuffandthingsi suggest anyone try out timeshift if you want to take system snapshots21:18
stuffandthingsits been a massive help for me21:18
user|7klinda I have the same partition estructure, is the best, but in my case, I have home directory in a nvme 1tb ssd and root / in another nvme 512gb ssd21:19
klindaso do you advise to use flathub for the apps?21:19
stuffandthingsif the aps are also available in apt, go with apt21:20
stuffandthingsbut there are things that are not in apt21:20
klindaok21:20
stuffandthingsflatpaks are also installed in your home folder instead of the system21:21
stuffandthingsyay, kde backports fixes the crashing on dolphin21:22
user|7Excuse me stuffandthings could you say me what's the default dark theme of ubuntu 22.04?21:26
user|7kubuntu*21:27
stuffandthingsuser|7 Breeze Dark21:27
jpjacobsHi there! Anybody else using Vim (I'm on 9.0) and finding the mouse interaction changed since upgrading to Kubuntu 23.10? It doesn't put the cursor anymore where I click.21:34
stuffandthingsone sec, ill try21:38
jpjacobsSeems to me that instead of moving the cursor to the clicking location, it takes some characters its not supposed to receive (like its blocked for the next keystroke...)21:41
jpjacobsAnd then moves the cursor to the start of the middle line on the screen21:41
stuffandthingsdont know, it seems to be acting normal on mine21:42
stuffandthingscould it be a rendering glitch?21:42
jpjacobsNot quite, because if I type, it is really at the wrong position21:45
stuffandthingsim not sure, its acting normal on mine, wish i had a better answer21:48
stuffandthingsjpjacobs, if you copy a file to overwrite another, on 23.10, does dolphin crash?21:51
jpjacobsLet me try21:56
jpjacobsNo. Not with identical files, nor with different files sharing the same name21:59
stuffandthingsthat so weird, i verified my iso and it crashes every time, whether i install, run off the usb, or run in vmware22:00
stuffandthingsbut only copy to overwrite, not move to overwrite or delete and only files, not folders22:00
stuffandthingsfortunately, if i update kde via the backports ppa, it fixes it22:05
stuffandthingsthanks for checking22:05
stuffandthingsguess ill just use cubic to update the iso than22:07
jpjacobsWell, then we're two with unresolved issues. I guess it's a good occasion to brush up on Vim's keyboard moves :P22:09
jpjacobsThanks for trying anyway22:09
stuffandthingsno prob, thank you22:12
stuffandthingsactually, i wonder maybe theres a vim ppa with an updated version22:13
stuffandthingssudo add-apt-repository ppa:jonathonf/vim22:15
stuffandthingsthats the ppa for vim, maybe it has a different version that fixes it22:15
stuffandthingsnope, looks like its the same version22:16
klindauhm I see the download speed slow while downloading packages22:20
klindacan be some settings? or the mirror is slow?22:20
stuffandthingsguessing the mirror probably is, try changing it22:21
klindait's a pip command22:21
klindaI go on 140 kb/s22:26
stuffandthingsoow, pretty weak22:27
stuffandthingseven if you try another mirror?22:28
klindanope stuffandthings22:36
stuffandthingsare you on wifi?22:36
klindano22:38
stuffandthingsi dont know, i wish i could help more, i cant think of anything at the moment22:39
stuffandthingsif you try running of the usb, is it the same?22:42
klindawhat do you mean?22:44
stuffandthings are you running linux off the hdd/sdd right now22:47
klindayes22:47
klindamaybe is slow to wriite? :P22:47
stuffandthingsoh boy, if it was that slow, youd not be able to do much22:48
stuffandthingslol22:48
stuffandthingstry booting off a live usb and seeing if it works faster maybe?22:48
stuffandthingsi wonder if something changed with apt22:48
stuffandthingssince the usb would be defaults, its worth a shot maybe22:48
stuffandthingsmaybe click on the tray icon for networking and then the chevron on the right side, to see network activity22:51
klindaDownloading nvidia_cublas_cu12-12.1.3.1-py3-none-manylinux1_x86_64.whl (410.6 MB)22:55
klindathat package is slow22:55
klindaamaybe it has to compile t22:55
stuffandthingswell i know on mine, i added librewolf ppa and everything gets fast except that22:59
stuffandthingsif i do an apt full-upgrade it pretty much flies until it gets to librewolf23:00
klindawell I put the / partition on the ssd and the /home to the hd, is it the correct way?23:41
klindaif I run windows the download is fast23:41
klindawhat could be wrong stuffandthings?23:42
