[12:37] Hi all ! new to ubuntu studio and I have an issue with sound after installing ubuntu studio via ubuntu studio installer "no output or input device found" any idea why please ? [12:37] tried to restart the laptop but it doesn't help [13:26] Hi. [13:26] When I start Ardour it pops up a warning dialog saying [13:26] "WARNING: Your system has a limit for maximum amount of locked memory. This might cause Ardour to run out of memory before your system runs out of memory." [13:26] It also tells me that I should use the command ulimit -l unlimited but when doing so the system wont let me. [13:26] Instead I get the response "bash: ulimit: max locked memory: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted" [13:26] Trying the same with sudo ulimit -l unlimited gives the error "ulimit: command not found" [20:01] thanks for elaborating OvenWerks. So far, jack is the only thing that gives me good latency with my FW card. The jack with pulse audio bridge works beyond fine for me, no noticeable DSP peaks. [20:01] I'm not particularily fond of pulse audio, and i am happy to see things like pipewire come push the envelope. [20:02] The only thing i would be really sad about, is having to throw away perfectly operating hardware because some software moves on.. [20:02] sakrecoer: it is unfortunate that those who chose to make pulse did not instead make an alsa front end for jack. [20:02] But i could always just install some older version and circumvent security bonanze by just no pluging into the interwebz. [20:04] I think there is no real reason that desktop applications could not just use jack... the only thing being helpful would be a higher latency layer between between the application and jack or such a layer in jack [20:05] In many ways, PW attempts to be that jack [20:05] well, i cheer for their success! [20:06] As you have said, the one thing that would make PW "it" for me is the use of ffado [20:06] Until then, i am happy to report that removing pipewire in the audio config thing got me back to an operational rig! [20:06] or alsa devs with the same enthusiasim now as in the past. [20:07] IE a working alsa FW stack (working at low latencies) [22:13] rig is so operational i recorded a hit tonight \o/ been a while since i felt this way about a piece [22:17] anyone else participating in Acid December this year? https://acid.datapop.se
