slidesingerDone lots of hardware raids over the years.  Tomorrow I need to make a dd backup of a firmware raid prior to wipe, reload os, and restore data.  Looks like I use dmraid and mount to get it mounted.  Do I need to add anything to the live usb after I burn it?  Also, can I not use if=/dev/mapper/<array-name>  with dd and not mounting?00:11
rboxwell you defeintly dont want to dd somethign thats mounted...00:14

lgkan2hello everyone04:43
bray90820So I'm trying to install wine32 on ubuntu but getting errors05:15
bray90820https://pastebin.com/raw/z9AZWFNk05:15
lotuspsychjeyou got external ppa's added on your system bray90820 ?05:16
bray90820ifd I understand you correctly the answer is yes05:16
lotuspsychjeplease purge your external ppa's first, then try again wine install05:17
bray90820How can I list my external ppa's05:18
guivercbray90820, you've not said what release; but I see `libmount1 | 2.37.2-4ubuntu3      | jammy           | amd64, arm64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x` & later for 22.04 & later if that's what you're using05:18
guiverc(sorry; I see you've been here awhile bray90820 ; if you said it earlier ^ I missed it)05:19
bray90820Yeah it's 22.0405:19
bray90820I just asked about the question so don't worry05:19
bray9082022.04 x86_64bit05:19
guivercI'd likley `apt policy libmount` & see if it shows; I'd expect it to show as per my prior post05:19
guiverclibmount/libmount1 ^  (ignore my typos sorry)05:20
guivercand ensure you get no errors or warning when you run `sudo apt update` ... otherwise problems can be expected..05:20
bray90820guiverc: https://pastebin.com/raw/N98msZDh05:20
bray90820No errors when I run sudo apt-get uopdate or upgrade or any of that stuff05:21
guiverc:)  That's what I'd expect; alas your wine32 [appear to] want higher??  (what lotuspsychje referred to as 3rd party package most likely)05:22
lotuspsychjebray90820: you are the admin of your system, you should recall wich external packages/ppa's you installed ?05:32
bray90820lotuspsychje: I am the admin and if I remember correctly it was Virtualbox, Firfox, Teamviewer, and wine05:35
lotuspsychjebray90820: teamviewer might have external ppa's as its not on the ubuntu repos by default05:36
bray90820Yeah teamviewer does05:36
bray90820And I deff installed the firefox ppa05:36
lotuspsychjepurge them and try again bray9082005:36

Guest42so I downloaded the latest version of Ubuntu 23.10, the PC in question is currently running Ubuntu connected to the internet just fine. It gets an IP address from my router but for some strange reason it shows a ? on the wired Internet connection and wont actually connect to the Internet.05:39
Guest42I dont understand what I need to do but I guess I am not updating until 24.04 or y'all figure this out05:40
lotuspsychjeGuest42: it might be your network card driver not recognized? check sudo lshw -C network05:41
Guest42I edited the resolv.conf to add the line nameserver 8.8.8.8 and still no internet05:41
Guest42lotuspsychje its getting an ip address05:42
Guest42it shows up05:42
Guest42works currently with 23.0405:42
Guest42its just the new live usb05:42
toddcdid you add a firewall?05:42
Guest42no05:42
Guest42is there a way to file this bug?05:43
Guest42I can wait til april I suppose05:43
lotuspsychjeGuest42: before filing bugs, we reccomend to troubleshoot here with the volunteers here first05:44
Guest42its going to require a lot of rebooting etc05:44
Guest42as it affects the live iso05:44
Guest42https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-Z690-A-DDR405:44
Guest42here is the motherboard in question, it is very Linux friendly05:45
Guest42I could go into the other room and pull the wifi card out of the secondary PC but that would put my media center out of commission05:46
Guest42I know the wifi card works because its currently running Ubuntu 23.1005:47
Guest42if you give me a list of things to try, I will snap a picture with my phone, and reboot to the live iso, give em a shot, then report back05:48
lotuspsychjeGuest42: some hardware might not be recognized, or have bugs in an ubuntu iso, but once you update your system from the installer, things might get sorted05:48

Guest42;)05:48
Guest42thought that would be obvious05:48
lotuspsychjeGuest42: most people have both wifi and eth these days to try to update, and updating system is a need after install05:49
Guest42lotuspsychje I did a lspci and the network card shows up and it is getting an IP address from the drop down menu05:49
Guest42well the only wifi card I have is currently in use by my wife watching tv lol05:50
Guest42I could do it later05:50
lotuspsychjeGuest42: allright, have you readed the !23.10 releasenotes, to see if there are similar known bugs around?05:50
Guest42ive been googling this for about an hour on my phone05:52
Guest42the only thing remotely close was trying to add a nameserver 8.8.8.8 to resolv.conf and that did nothing05:52
lotuspsychjeGuest42: usualy ubuntu needs to bring up networking by default, if not you have to investigate the root cause, maybe keep a journalctl -f open while you search05:53
Guest42I have never had wired internet fail on Linux before lol05:53
Guest42looks like there is a possible fix by changing /usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf05:55
Guest42and adding except:type:ethernet to the end05:56
Guest42but I would have to chance installing and finding out lol05:56
