xu-irc67wmy xubuntu laptop keeps crashing, i'm pretty sure the culprit is discord03:05
xu-irc67wi've tried using the official program, webcord, and another one that adds audio streaming functionality and even the website itself03:05
xu-irc67wthey all crash my system03:05
xu-irc67wanyone else having a similar problem?03:05
xu-irc67wit's crashing so hard i'm getting logged out of my system03:09
xu-irc67wsometimes it totally reboots03:09
xu-irc67wit keeps saying a system problem was detecting but it doesn't give specifics03:10
xu-irc67wwat do03:10
tomreynxu-irc67w: you could look at your logs, whic are accessible with the journalctl command03:22
xu-irc67wi'm very bad at the command line03:23
tomreynthere's a GUI application for it for at least gnome, too, called 'Logs'03:23
tomreynbut debugging things usually involves learning your way around the shell, at least some basics.03:24
xu-irc67wthere are at least twelve errors listed here03:26
xu-irc67wthey are in the "important" category03:26
xu-irc67wgkr-pam: unable to locate daemon control file03:27
xu-irc67wthere are so damn many03:30
xu-irc67wthis is gonna take some time03:30
tomreynhere's a shortcut:  journalctl -b -p4 | nc termbin.com 999903:32
xu-irc67whttps://termbin.com/2zrs03:33
tomreynno mention of discord. maybe you need to reduce the log message filtering to messages of any priority (omit -p4).03:39
xu-irc67wi ommitted -p4 and it didn't give me a link03:40
tomreynother than that, there seems to be some issue with your bios rgearding graphics, with your amd graphics driver(s) and several with skype03:41
xu-irc67whmm03:41
xu-irc67wthe computer is pretty damn new03:41
xu-irc67wit's a lenovo ideapad03:41
xu-irc67wso that's probably why03:41
tomreyncouldbe just too new03:41
xu-irc67wyes that's what i'm finding03:41
xu-irc67wi'm contemplating shrinking the windows partition on my surface pro 7 and installing xubuntu in the unallocated space03:42
tomreynoh i think we already discussed this system the other day03:42
xu-irc67wyes that's right03:42
xu-irc67wi have a solution for the audio problem, (USB mic) but it's still wildly unstable03:42
xu-irc67wi'm going to let this thing run for a while without discord, see if it's skype doing it03:43
xu-irc67whow would a microsoft surface pro 7 do with xubuntu?03:43
xu-irc67wit's old enough that i would think it would have driver support03:43
tomreyni would not know. try searching the web for it.03:44
xu-irc67wok i'll do some digging03:44
xu-irc67wi could also always make a live usb install and test it that way03:44
tomreynas long as it can boot from that, sure03:45
xu-irc67wbased on what i've seen xubuntu can handle hopping from system unit to system unit03:45
xu-irc67wi was going to install it to the sd card but the slot isn't bootable sadly03:45
tomreyna common bios limitation03:45
xu-irc67wbit sad innit03:46
tomreynyes, better buy well done firmware if you can tell how - which isn't that easy03:46
xu-irc67wyeah the capability of the bios isn't generally listed in the specs03:47
xu-irc67wnot as far as i can tell03:47
tomreynhttps://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface discusses its bios and restrictions03:48
xu-irc67woh cool03:48
tomreynthere's also a channel dedicated to this hardware here (as is indicated there)03:48
tomreyn#linux-surface03:49
tomreynthe fact that there is a custom kernel probably means you won't be able to enjoy it that much.03:49
xu-irc67wyeah this doesn't seem viable03:49
xu-irc67wdamn03:49
tomreynhttps://www.linux.org/threads/ubuntu-22-04-on-surface-pro-7.43071/03:50
tomreynhttps://devicetests.com/microsoft-surface-pro-7-ubuntu-20-04-compatibility03:50
tomreynbbl03:51
xu-irc67wyeah the more i read the less i want to do it now03:51
xu-irc67wit's pretty involved, i guess my heart isn't in it right now too much has gone wrong recently03:52
xu-irc67whow would i find the cause of the last system crash?03:52
xu-irc67wit booted me to the login screen so there must be some way to find that info03:52
xu-irc67wi'd like to at least know what the cause was03:53
Bashing-omxu-irc67w: Anything in /var/crash/ directory ?03:58
xu-irc67wyes03:59
xu-irc67wbut nothing from today03:59
xu-irc67wwhich is strange03:59
=== guiverc2 is now known as guiverc
xu-irc67wit's obviously crashed at least three times today but it returns no errors04:30
xu-irc67wno crash logs from today at all04:30
Bashing-omxu-irc67w: dmesg ; /var/log/syslog ?04:38
xu-irc67wis there a graphical way to read syslog?04:51
Bashing-omxu-irc67w: Long time back I know there was a GUI reder - Now-a-days I do not know of one; Mostly I am of a text user interface - have not given a GUI means a thought.04:54
xu-irc67wso i'm kind of stuck then05:06
xu-irc67wi just don't have the energy to try to figure out the command line for this right now05:07
xu-irc67wi guess until things are fixed i'm using my surface for discord05:07
Bashing-omxu-irc67w: are the log files so large your file manager can not load ? - thgen there is the tool "less".05:08
xu-irc67wholy crap syslog.1 is 138 MiB05:17
xu-irc67whow are these things handled?  are all the syslogs for each day combined into a single master file or something?05:17
Bashing-omxu-irc67w: Default ? logs are compressed when a certain size is reached - then log-rotate removes older compressed logs.05:22
opiHy, need Help, in German at the best, Bluetooth doesn't find my Headset10:10
opiinstalled Bluetooth Adapter and Mananger,  ToolBLEx10:13
chibchahello13:37
torvxu-irc67w: I'd guess "amdgpu" errors seem the most severe based on your logs. Maybe just related to suspend/hibernate--you could try disabling that. Again such device issues likely got fixed with later kernel/firmware versions--try the recent live system to compare. Also loads of clogging by Skype--i'd first remove Skype and observe.15:34
xu-irc67wdamn i use skype pretty heavily17:15
xu-irc67wthat's a problem17:15
xu-irc67wthis install was done with brand new install media as well17:17
diogenes_Vx15xu-irc67w, why don't you just use web skype?17:54
