xu-irc67whas anyone here gotten the browse by album art plugin for rhythmbox to work or is it just too old now?14:50
xu-irc67wi haven't had any luck14:50
tomreynxu-irc67w: you could try asking in #gnome-rhythmbox14:52
tomreyn...according to https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Rhythmbox/14:53
xu-irc67whmm when i click on #gnome-rhythmbox it says i need to be logged in14:53
xu-irc67wi'll set that up later14:53
tomreynhmm, that's right. there are only 3 people there anyways, though14:55
xu-irc67woof14:55
xu-irc67wonly three?14:55
tomreynyou could try their web forum instead14:55
tomreynhmm "Browse by album" is not listed at https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Rhythmbox/Plugins14:58
tomreynis this a third party plugin?14:58
xu-irc67wyes it is14:58
xu-irc67wi found some more complete instructions on ask ubuntu14:58
xu-irc67wi'm going to give that a try today14:58
tomreynmight need to get in touch with the plugin developer then14:59
xu-irc67wfor some reason i can't remember artist names but i will immediately recognize the album art14:59

xu-irc67wso i'm not having any luck on the browse by album art plugin19:55
xu-irc67wwhat i have managed to install just doesn't work19:55
xu-irc67wnow that my laptop is stabilized i'd like to know what options i have for the audio driver23:13
xu-irc67wit's still using generic and the quality for the mic is horrible23:13
diogenes_Vx15xu-irc67w, are you the one with lenovo pc?23:14
xu-irc67wyeah, sorry i keep coming back23:14
xu-irc67wi just don't know how to fix it23:15
diogenes_Vx15well lenovo is notorious to have worse ever Linux support for their hardware and mic quality is not an exception, i had tons of lenovo pcs to fix and all of theme were horrible.23:16
xu-irc67wjust my luck huh?23:16
xu-irc67wseems like a lot of companies try to make linux as hard as possible23:17
xu-irc67wbut i'm not giving it up, this is the comfiest computer i've ever used23:17
xu-irc67wwell after my desktop anyway23:17
diogenes_Vx15ok first how did you get it 'stable' enough as you said?23:17
xu-irc67wninja kernel23:19
xu-irc67wthat stopped the gpu errors23:20
diogenes_Vx15so with ninja kernel you get no crashes?23:20
xu-irc67wnope23:20
xu-irc67wdiscord crashes every now and then, but the system stays up23:20
xu-irc67wi even got minecraft working23:20
diogenes_Vx15well the apps crashes that's a complete different story, the most important thing is that the system doesn't crash.23:22
diogenes_Vx15ok now let's see how do you test your mic and what's wrong with it?23:22
xu-irc67wit's audio quality23:22
xu-irc67wi used both discord and audacity to test it23:22
xu-irc67wboth are very bad23:22
xu-irc67wi've been using a USB soundcard and a mic for now but this thing only has 2 usb ports23:23
diogenes_Vx15so are you talking about the internal mic or what?23:23
xu-irc67wyes the internal23:24
xu-irc67wthe usb one works perfectly23:24
xu-irc67wthe onboard doesn't have the right driver23:24
diogenes_Vx15if it didn't have the correct driver it wouldn't work at all.23:24
xu-irc67wso it might just be a very bad mic23:25
diogenes_Vx15ok now either describe how it sounds or upload an example somewhere.23:25
xu-irc67wit sounds almost robotic23:26
xu-irc67wis there a place i can use similar to pastebin to post a sample?23:26
diogenes_Vx15xu-irc67w, maybe imgur.com23:27
xu-irc67wi found a way23:34
xu-irc67whttps://youtu.be/Ks-iuFr8FiM?feature=shared23:34
xu-irc67wit's pretty bad23:35
diogenes_Vx15oh ok, let's try to disable boost.23:35
xu-irc67wsettings manager then?23:35
diogenes_Vx15nope we need to modify some configs.23:36
xu-irc67wdarn23:36
xu-irc67wok23:36
diogenes_Vx15first we need to backup so run:23:37
diogenes_Vx15cp /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-input-internal-mic.conf ~/23:37
xu-irc67wok23:38
xu-irc67wit's backed up23:39
diogenes_Vx15pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY mousepad /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-input-internal-mic.conf23:39
xu-irc67wok i'm there23:39
xu-irc67wi need to learn more of this23:39
diogenes_Vx15it will open the config for editig, press Ctrl+F and search for: Element Internal Mic Boost23:39
xu-irc67wok i found it23:40
diogenes_Vx15change:23:41
diogenes_Vx15volume = merge23:41
diogenes_Vx15to23:41
diogenes_Vx15volume = zero23:41
xu-irc67wdone23:41
diogenes_Vx15then look for: Element Int Mic Boost23:41
diogenes_Vx15after that: Element Mic Boost23:41
diogenes_Vx15and do the same thing.23:42
xu-irc67welement mic boost only has switch = off and volume = off23:42
diogenes_Vx15ok then leave that one as it is.23:43
xu-irc67welement int mic boost was changed though23:43
diogenes_Vx15ok if you are done with this one then save, close and run:23:43
diogenes_Vx15cp /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-input-mic.conf ~/23:43
xu-irc67wdone23:44
diogenes_Vx15pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY mousepad /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-input-mic.conf23:44
diogenes_Vx15and do the same procedure, look for those elements and change volume to zero23:44
xu-irc67wonly one of those options exists in this file and it's set to switch = off and voume = off23:45
xu-irc67woh wait i found another23:46
xu-irc67wok done23:46
diogenes_Vx15when you are done then save, close and run: pulseaudio -k23:46
diogenes_Vx15after that check the microphone in audacity.23:46
xu-irc67woh that's SO much better23:47
xu-irc67wyou have no idea23:47
xu-irc67wsorry i keep bugging you guys23:47
diogenes_Vx15ok now you can adjust the volume from pavucontrol23:47
diogenes_Vx15and one more thing to take into account.23:48
xu-irc67wwhat's that?23:48
diogenes_Vx15even though in audacity it might sound ok, in the browser it might be a different story because their WebRTC tends to boost the mic and autoadjust which messes things up, so if you have this issue int the browser of other app then look through the settings and disable mic autoadjusting.23:49
diogenes_Vx15in the browser you can do it via flags.23:49
