iomari891greetings, My laptop won't enter sleep mode. I'm using kubuntu 23:10 thought this issue has been hear before my upgrade and I have Nvidia graphics. It use to sleep with no issue but over the past few months it sleep s1 out of maybe 15 times. What might be the problem?10:17
diogenes_Vx15iomari891, Hello, so the issue started to appear after the upgrade?10:22
iomari891diogenes_Vx15: I can't say for sure. I've done may upgrades over the years and I can't exactly say when this started. At first it was intermittent so I ignored it. I had to maybe sleep 2 times before it worked so I lived with it. Now it hardly ever works. When I sleep it goes into text mode for a minute then it bounces back to screensaver password.10:25
diogenes_Vx15iomari891, ok let's see your specs: inxi -Fxxc0 | nc termbin.com 999910:30
diogenes_Vx15share the url.10:30
iomari891diogenes_: Had to reboot and experiment. On reboot at the login screen sleep works. After I login and do nothing else it works. I want to go about my normall session and check after any app I open or close and see if I can find the culprit.10:58
iomari891diogenes_: https://termbin.com/5f9x11:02
diogenes_Vx15iomari891, ok then test it more and see how it behaves, also i'd suggest you change your login settings so you always start with a blank new session, i mean no session save.11:05
iomari891diogenes_Vx15: I don't save sessions11:08
iomari891thanks11:08
iomari891diogenes_Vx15: BTW, how long to termbim.com posts sty online?11:15
diogenes_Vx15iomari891, one month.11:16
iomari891thanks11:25
iomari8912nd issue. My network connection doe snot reconnect after sleep mode. Same whether wired or wifi. Is there a setting to correct this?11:26
iomari891I can reconnected manually though.11:27
diogenes_Vx15iomari891, such issues even macs have.11:28
diogenes_Vx15iomari891, but you can follow this guide and adjust it to your hardware: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=35848011:30
iomari891thanks12:09

diogenes_Vx15landc, is this a virtual machine?18:15
BluesKajMerry Christmas to all!18:16
landcdiogenes_Vx15: No, it's not18:16
landcMerry christmas BluesKaj18:16
diogenes_Vx15Merry Christmas BluesKaj18:16
BluesKajgreetings landc, diogenes_Vx1518:17
diogenes_Vx15landc, tell us more about the hardware you are installing it on? what kind of PC, is it dual boot? What system was it running before? How did write the ISO to the USB drive?18:18
landcdiogenes_Vx15: It's a desktop PC, X570, installing from USB, used Unetbootin to create the drive from an ISO download. It's dual boot, the other drive has Windows on it, the drive I'm targeting used to have Gentoo and openSUSE on it18:19
diogenes_Vx15landc, unetbootin is a bad choice.18:20
landcdiogenes_Vx15: what's better for windows?18:21
diogenes_Vx15try to write the USB one more time but this time with Etcher.18:21
landcAlright18:21
=== leonardus_ is now known as landc
landcdiogenes_Vx15: Thanks, it's installed successfully now20:04
diogenes_Vx15landc, no problem.20:05
landcAfter installing kubuntu, there's no longer an option to boot my Windows installation. I still see Windows stuff in /boot/efi/EFI, but it looks like the kubuntu installation's kernel resides directly in /boot, not /boot/efi. I've tried running `update-grub` which does not detect Windows, and also tried `os-prober` which prints nothing.20:28
landcAnyone know what to do here?20:28
diogenes_Vx15landc, is windows on a separate drive?20:30
landcYes20:32
diogenes_Vx15you can try to get to the Boot options before booting, i don't know what F key would it be for you but you can try Esc or F2 or F12 and get to boot manager and see if you can launche windows drive from there.20:34
landcYeah, that's how I usually boot it but it's not there anymore for some reason20:34
diogenes_Vx15landc, i mean not grum menu but boot options of BIOS.20:35
diogenes_Vx15grub*20:35
landcYep20:35
diogenes_Vx15so what options do you see there now?20:36
diogenes_Vx15it would be useful to make a pic.20:36

leonardusUbuntu doesn't show up until I go to the UEFI screen proper20:42
leonardusAnd it isn't actually on the Intel drive so not sure why it says that20:43

landcmeant to ping diogenes_Vx15* ^ photos20:47
diogenes_Vx15landc, and which one is your windows?20:48
landcneither, that's what I'm trying to fix20:49
diogenes_Vx15ok let's see your system info: inxi -Fxxc0 | nc termbin.com 999920:50
landchttps://termbin.com/iq2e20:51
diogenes_Vx15landc, and now: lsblk | nc termbin.com 999921:01
diogenes_Vx15sorry multitasking so it takes a bit of time.21:01
landchttps://termbin.com/zzyp21:02
landcno worries, I appreciate that you're helping21:02
diogenes_Vx15landc, so you have a 9TB HDD, 500GB SSD and another 1TB SSD?21:06
landcYes21:07
landcKubuntu on the 1TB SSD, Windows is on the 500GB SSD21:07
diogenes_Vx15landc, what verison of windows?21:09
landcwindows 10 with bitlocker21:10
diogenes_Vx15landc, ok we can try and chainload your windows partition.21:13
diogenes_Vx15if you want of course.21:19
landcYeah sure21:19
diogenes_Vx15ok let's get the UUIDs first: lsblk -o KNAME,UUID | nc termbin.com 999921:20
landchttps://termbin.com/ll3f21:21
diogenes_Vx15landc, pkexec env DISPLAY=$DISPLAY XAUTHORITY=$XAUTHORITY mousepad /etc/grub.d/40_custom21:26
landc/usr/bin/env: ‘mousepad’: No such file or directory21:27
diogenes_Vx15sorry hehe21:28
diogenes_Vx15replace mousepad with kate21:28
landcAh, alright I'm there21:28
landcright now it contains some comments and "exec tail -n +3 $0"21:28
diogenes_Vx15just belowe the line that reads: # the 'exec tail' line above.21:29
diogenes_Vx15add following:21:29
diogenes_Vx15menuentry 'Windows 10' {21:29
diogenes_Vx15   search --fs-uuid 0fe1175a-ca32-4bec-87e0-03ea129d2475 --set=root21:29
diogenes_Vx15   chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi21:29
diogenes_Vx15}21:29
diogenes_Vx15save, close and run: sudo update-grub21:30
landcAlright that's done21:31
diogenes_Vx15did you see a new menu entry Windows 10?21:31
landcI didn't see anything about Windows 10 when I ran update-grub, should I try rebooting at this point?21:32
diogenes_Vx15no no wait21:32
landchttps://dpaste.org/ZwHPO/raw21:33
diogenes_Vx15let's see this: cat /etc/grub.d/40_custom | nc termbin.com 999921:33
landcdiogenes_Vx15: in the paste above ^21:35
diogenes_Vx15landc, ok reboot see if you get it there.21:35
landcdiogenes_Vx15: Nothing new in the UEFI menu, and when I boot kubuntu it boots straight into the OS, no grub menu21:39
diogenes_Vx15landc, wait you get no grub menu at all?21:39
landcYeah when I boot into kubuntu I only see the logo and then it prompts for my encryption key, then it boots21:40
diogenes_Vx15cat /etc/default/grub | nc termbin.com 999921:40
landchttps://termbin.com/5f1721:41
diogenes_Vx15comment out this line: GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden21:43
diogenes_Vx15and add timeout here: GRUB_TIMEOUT=521:43
diogenes_Vx15after that run: sudo update-grub21:43
landcdiogenes_Vx15: getting closer. I see the entry in grub now, but I get the error file '/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi' not found21:47
landcI do have a 'bootmgr.efi' in /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/boot21:48
landcbut no bootmgfw.efi21:48
diogenes_Vx15landc, ok then edit that 40_custom file and replace that name.21:48
landcdiogenes_Vx15: still getting this when booting: "error: file `/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgr.efi' not found."21:58
diogenes_Vx15landc, ok then we might gave a wrong UUID, i will give you the variants for you to try.21:59
diogenes_Vx15menuentry "Windows 10" {21:59
diogenes_Vx15    search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root DB01-488421:59
diogenes_Vx15    chainloader /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgr.efi21:59
diogenes_Vx15}21:59
diogenes_Vx15if this won't work then change the uuid to: 904ef84c-4137-4873-a3d2-06f54ff4e03c22:00
diogenes_Vx15and don't forget: sudo update-grub22:00
diogenes_Vx15when it comes to chainloading a windows OS it's always a trial-and-error process.22:01
landcgotcha, will try each of those22:01
diogenes_Vx15ok and i will go off now, wish you luck and if something, come back tomorrow.22:01
landcThanks for the help, will do22:02
