=== Lord_of_Life_ is now known as Lord_of_Life [03:00] Trinity Desktop environment [03:00] Trinity Desktop Environment R14.1.1 on Ubuntu 23.10 [03:43] Beep boop. I try and get the latest NVIDIA drivers for 2060. But I get this error pk-client-error-quark: E: http://bw.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu kinetic/main amd64 libglibmm-2.4-1v5 amd64 2.66.5-1 is not (yet) available (404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.81 80]) [18:56] in case will be back: cart seems to be running 22.10 (kinetic), a normal (non long term) release, which had 9 months of support, and is now unsupported. they will need to carry out an !eolupgrade [19:07] So if I have an old EOL Kubuntu can I install a new version of it just over the old one without losing all my data? [19:07] Cause I really do not want to format [19:08] !eolupgrade [19:08] End-Of-Life is when security updates and support for an Ubuntu release stop. Make sure to update Ubuntu before it goes EOL so you get updates promptly for newly-discovered security vulnerabilities. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOL and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases for more info. Looking to upgrade from an EOL release? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades [19:08] yes you can, see the last url in that line [19:17] oerheks: Ok but I wont be able to upgrade. I tried that before. I have to install a new version [19:18] But I just want it to install on the current linux files and not format [19:19] i think any ubuntu gives that option, to install over a current one. [19:20] and that old releases trick should work fine. [19:22] the guide is written in a way that I needed to read it twice and extra carefully to understand wthe steps to be taken. but it should work that way. [19:28] cart_man: if you still have questions after resding the guide another time, bring them up and we (at least i) will try to guide you step by step. [19:37] tomreyn: Well I am guessing it is just installing without the formatting? [19:37] cart_man: an upgrade is not a fresh install, it's an upgrade. [19:38] it means that packages and, in some but not all cases, their default configurations, are replaced by newer versions [19:39] tomreyn: Yea but do I have to download the newest ISO of Kubuntu for that? [19:40] no [19:40] a fresh install (where you would need to download the latest iso) *can* be the better option in that you get to apply the latest installation and disk partitioning / formatting defaults. but most changes are also applied during upgrades. [19:40] tomreyn: So I have been through the 'sudo do-release-upgrade' and I could not do that because my version was way to old : / [19:41] cart_man: did you read the eolupgrade guide *once* at least? [19:41] your questions make me think you did not. [19:42] tomreyn: Fk ... I just saw what I missed [19:42] changing the sources.list lines to point to archive... ? [19:42] tomreyn: I also installed new Nvidia drivers and that made it not start up anymore : / [19:42] The UI does not start. So I will have to remove that and then try this again [19:42] i'm not surpised about that [19:43] tomreyn: Yea chancing the source.list [19:43] if you uninstall any *nvidia* packages, you should be able to get a graphical desktop again. [20:33] I was reading the kubuntu subreddit and someone made a thread about there have been a ton of bugs in kubuntu 22.04, a bunch of other people pointed out regressions in the kernel as of recently. Is this true? Just wondering. [20:42] supesdupes, you can find bugs in pretty much any software that's not a sin, the real question you should ask if it could affect/impact in a negative way your experience. [23:01] HNY!
