[01:36] hi everyone [01:38] I would like to ask if everyone can still use the text mode to install Ubuntu 22.04.3 desktop? [01:40] Not sure what you mean? [01:41] StudioUser5: No, that's never been a supported option. === NotEickmeyer is now known as Eickmeyer [01:41] I'm not aware of there being a text-mode installer for any official Ubuntu Flavor, or for Ubuntu Desktop. There's one for Ubuntu Server but it's obviously not Ubuntu Studio. [01:42] arraybolt3: Even if they meant through the mini.iso artifact, it was never supported. [01:42] Ubuntu Studio used to be, prior to 12.04, *only* installable via text mode. [01:42] But that's clearly not 22.04.3, so moot point. [01:42] ahhhhhh didn't know that about <12.04 [01:43] 12.04 was the first time Studio had a live .iso. [01:43] Still was a flavor, just not "live". [01:44] I missed a lot of cool stuff jumping into Linux in 2019 rather than earlier :P [01:46] arraybolt3, fyi: Lubuntu used the debian installer as the alternate-ISO (non-live text) at 18.04 (original ISO, not later respins)... was used if machine had <700MB of RAM as live didn't leave sufficient to run ubiquity [01:47] guiverc: cool [01:48] (by at 18.04; I really meant last time at 18.04.. ie. LXDE releases only) [02:02] STudio on less than Gb of ram starts to become meaningless pretty quick. [02:05] even 4Gb is pretty minimal any more. Mind, desktop use tends to take more memory than audio only applications if you don't go crazy. [02:50] how can i disable crtl+f8 shortcut [02:54] BinarySavior: System Settings -> search for "shortcuts" -> click "Shortcuts" -> search for "f8" -> click "KWin" -> click the trash can next to "Ctrl+F8" [02:54] ty [02:54] (this is assuming Ctrl+F8 presents all virtual desktops on your system like it does on mine, but regardless you should be able to find which app has Ctrl+F8 bound like this) [02:55] obviously make sure to click "Apply" to make the settings actually stick [02:55] yea it worked [02:55] \o/ [05:19] Dumb question ;) just installed a working drive on a new mother board. when it first booted I got a grub error. which partition is the bios supposed to point at? Or is it a "if it works thats the one?" [05:25] BIOS/firmware/uEFI usually points to a drive... (not a partition.. the MBR is a first sector of the drive; reserved for that purpose since 1982 which is outside of partitioning area as reserved for that) [05:26] len__, ^ (also if using an ESP; reference is still to a drive; as by definition only a single ESP should exist on a drive; ESP=EFI system partition) [05:27] (a computer can have multiple drives, the firwmare/setting just tells it which drive to use, be it ESP or legacy/MBR) [05:34] When it came up it was pointed at the boot partition, I changed it to the only other option and it seems to work. I guess it figured the boot partition has a boot flag. So at the drive makes sense. I will go check my bios. [05:34] Thank you [05:35] This is a real simple system. one drive, one boot partition, one root === loredin9 is now known as loredin
