sudipcan anyone please mark LP: #2048923 as affecting Jammy11:12
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2048923 in r8168 (Ubuntu) "r8168-dkms fails to build module on kernel 6.5.0-14-generic" [Undecided, Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/204892311:12

sudipthanks ginggs12:17
sudipa newbie question. I can see Apport retracing service (apport) removed "need-duplicate-check" tag, I assume that means the service found there is no duplicate but LP: #2051547 is same as LP: #2048923. So how does the service confirm that its not a duplicate?12:31
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2051547 in r8168 (Ubuntu) "r8168-dkms 8.049.02-1ubuntu1.2: r8168 kernel module failed to build" [Undecided, New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/205154712:31

* sudip will mark them as duplicate but is curious to know the process12:32

rbasakSorry I haven't written up my shift yesterday yet13:15
rbasakI didn't get much done due to the outage13:15
rbasakBut see above for the conversation with dbungert about debootstrap13:15
rbasakI was also going to sponsor giara but couldn't. Perhaps I can do that today.13:16
paridehey rbasak, thanks! looking at the backlog conversation here then13:19

dbungertparide: looks like there is actionable stuff in the 1 wk+ category, I'm checking that first16:01
rbasakdbungert, paride: I'm going to sponsor giara today - I was blocked from doing that due to the outage during my shift yesterday16:07
rbasakSo you can ignore that one in the queue as I've reviewed it already so I might as well finish.16:07
dbungertack, thanks16:07
parideack+1, thanks rbasak16:08
parideis https://reqorts.qa.ubuntu.com/reports/sponsoring/general.html working for you?16:17
dbungertparide: it is, yes16:18
dbungertdo you need a copy of it somewhere?16:18
rbasakIt's a different URL now16:19
dbungertoh right, I updated my bookmark http://sponsoring-reports.ubuntu.com/general.html16:19

parideI just left my summary on discourse17:10
dbungertparide: thanks.  The same link was posted twice, is that a paste error?17:15
paridedbungert, yes, fixed, thanks17:16
parideI also added a comment to the MP related to that bug17:19
bdmurraysudip: the apport retracing service looks at the StacktraceAddressSignature and then checks its duplicate database for any other bugs with the same StacktraceAddressSignature17:56
sudipand if there is no stacktrace?17:58
bdmurrayLike a python traceback?17:58
sudipin this case, there was no trace, it only had the dkms log17:59
bdmurrayCan you share the bug?17:59
sudipbdmurray: LP: #2051547 and LP: #204892317:59
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2048923 in r8168 (Ubuntu Jammy) "[SRU] r8168-dkms fails to build module on kernel 6.5.0-14-generic" [Undecided, Confirmed] [duplicate: 2051547] https://launchpad.net/bugs/204892317:59
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2048923 in r8168 (Ubuntu Jammy) "[SRU] r8168-dkms fails to build module on kernel 6.5.0-14-generic" [Undecided, Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/204892317:59
bdmurrayNo duplicate checking is done for 2048923 b/c the `ProblemType: Bug`18:01
bdmurrayYeah, that's the case with both of them.18:01
bdmurrayThere are other signatures used for python tracebacks `ProblemType: Crash` and package install failures18:02
bdmurraywhich I think is `ProblemType: Package`18:02
sudipok.. I guess my screen does not show these signatures18:04
sudipbdmurray: is there any way I can search using these signatures ?18:04
bdmurraysudip: Could you be more specific about what you are trying to do and I'll see if I can help.18:06
sudipI was thinking of searching for bugs which has the signature of `ProblemType: Bug`. I assume duplicate checking hasn't been done for any of them.18:08
sudipbut I just noticed that Ubuntu bugs are also in udd, so I can make a query to see what it can show me.18:09
bdmurraysudip: What I meant was the bug reports with a `ProblemType` of bug don't have a duplicate signature. However, if you are trying to find bugs with a string from the DKMSBuildLog that is possible.18:18
bdmurrayAdditionally the "crash log from dkms" in bug 2048923 has a "ProblemType: Package" and a "DuplicateSignature" in it.18:19
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Bug 2048923 in r8168 (Ubuntu Jammy) "[SRU] r8168-dkms fails to build module on kernel 6.5.0-14-generic" [Undecided, Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/204892318:19
bdmurrayDuplicateSignature: dkms:r8168-dkms:8.049.02-1ubuntu1.2:/var/lib/dkms/r8168/8.049.02/build/r8168_n.c:27733:24: error: implicit declaration of function18:19
bdmurraysudip: udd likely won't be helpful here (but I haven't looked in years) because it doesn't have the attachments.18:20
sudipohh.. ok.. thanks bdmurray. I misunderstood initially. I thought the bugs will have some extra hidden tags to say the "ProblemType".18:21
bdmurrayA problem type of "Bug" is used when a user runs 'ubuntu-bug $pkgname'. A crash report will be "ProblemType: Crash" and a package install failure will be "ProblemType: Package".18:27
bdmurraysudip: there is a tool called lp-grab-attachments which can download all the bug attachments for a bug or all the bugs about a package.18:28
bdmurrayAfter using that you could search the log files locally.18:28
sudipok, will check that. thanks for explaining all this bdmurray18:29
bdmurrayNo problem! I'm happy to answer any more questions as I have some experience in this area. ;-)18:31
sudipthanks, will ping you when I have my next doubt. :)18:32
sudipalso, udd does not have a bug description to search for.18:33
bdmurrayOh right, that's also an additional argument to lp-grab-attachments because the Description is not an attachment. ;-)18:35

mh23Hi. What's an example "Justification for backporting the new version to the stable release"? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports20:45

=== ChanServ changed the topic of #ubuntu-devel to: Archive: open | Devel of Ubuntu (not support) | Build failures: http://qa.ubuntuwire.com/ftbfs/ | #ubuntu for support and discussion of Focal-Mantic | Patch Pilots: N/A
mh23Is this backport bug missing anything https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/git-credential-oauth/+bug/2052555 ?20:51
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2052555 in git-credential-oauth (Ubuntu) "[BPO] git-credential-oauth/0.11.0-1 from noble" [Undecided, New]20:51
rbasakmh23: here's an example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/jammy/+source/mozc/+bug/203025920:52
-ubottu:#ubuntu-devel- Launchpad bug 2030259 in mozc (Ubuntu Jammy) "[BPO] Backport mozc from lunar to jammy" [Undecided, Fix Released]20:52
rbasakmh23: you can search the bug database for bugs that are Fix Released and subscribed to by ~ubuntu-backporters if you'd like more examples.20:52
rbasakI'm not on the backporters team and not particularly familiar so I don't feel confident in judging your bug, sorry.20:52
rbasakBut hopefully existing examples are helpful.20:52
mh23Thank you20:54
