[02:19] I am trying to make a live usb to boot and then install ubuntu studio have been having a lot of issues with the 22.04 iso found here: https://ubuntustudio.org/download/ [02:19] Is there a more reliable one somewhere? [02:20] unjustice1: The exact same instructions are linked here: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/install-ubuntu-desktop#3-create-a-bootable-usb-stick [02:20] Pretty much the way to do it and what we endorse. [02:21] What system are you starting from? [02:22] I bought a new System76 and it crapped out running Ubuntu 22.04, I am using an old windows laptop to get Ubuntu Studio on a USB to reinstall [02:22] unjustice1: Then either BalenaEtcher or Rufus can be used. Either one should do the trick. [02:22] I tried rufus and unetbootin, the USB would just lock on a blank screen after boot [02:23] Did you check to make sure the download was complete? [02:24] The download seems to fail a lot, but the one that finished was complete [02:24] not sure how to check md5sums on winblows [02:25] I was worried that the iso was messed up in some way and downloaded 20.04, but I just started the DL again a minute ago...maybe this time it will work [02:25] md5sums are not published anymore. [02:25] https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToSHA256SUM [02:25] https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/how-to-verify-ubuntu#1-overview [02:26] https://www.windowsdigitals.com/verify-md5-sha256-checksum-windows-11/ [02:27] unjustice1: If you've been having trouble downloading, that's a very good reason to check the sha256sum as, even though your system might report a complete download, it might not be. [02:28] Yeah, a bit strange. It just keeps failing [02:28] Torrent might also improve reliability. [02:28] I'll give that a shot [02:28] unjustice1: What country are you located in? I might be able to find you a closer mirror. [02:28] USA, east coast [02:29] Standby.. [02:29] unjustice1: Try from here: https://mirror.us.leaseweb.net/ubuntu-cdimage/ubuntustudio/releases/22.04.3/release/ [02:29] That's an approved mirror. [02:30] Weird, these ones fail instantly. The other one got part way through atleast [02:31] I might try a different browser, let's see [02:33] This one is UK, but who knows: https://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/ubuntustudio/releases/22.04.3/release/ [02:34] OMG, stupid me the HD is full [02:34] That'd do it! [02:49] So, a follow up question. Ubuntu is already installed on my computer but won't boot in anything but recovery mode due to some wild errors...that I am not really looking to fix. I will probably just reinstall. [02:50] However, I would like to move some files before I wipe the whole thing and reformat. From the USB boot, can I get access to this via terminal before I wipe it? [02:50] Normally recovery mode is read only [02:55] You should be able to, yes. [02:55] Even from the file manager. [02:56] Alright, I will give it a go [03:18] There is no mouse cursor apparent [03:23] There was when I tested that .iso image and approved it for release. [03:23] It hasn't been modified since. [03:24] It seems mostly fine, I am just assuming that I can get the mouse to work after the install [03:27] seems like everyon just installs gnome-tweaks, but not sure this will work with KDE...we'll see [04:06] Super frustrating, changing cursor size, type has no effect [04:07] reboot, logout, and disconnecting/reconnecting makes no effect either. It doesn't matter if I switch to another mouse either [04:07] still no cursor
