RjGoh good, Have a hardware issue that is fixed in 6.6.11, and 6.7 or higher00:00
EickmeyerNice!00:00
Eickmeyer23.10 uses 6.6 FWIW, if you want to use that now.00:00
EickmeyerIt's pretty close to what you'll expect.00:00
RjGI did find a small issue in the daily build from the 20th :(  I fired it up in virtualbox and it goes into an endless loop on the new installer and safe graphics mode does the same.00:01
EickmeyerIssue is known. Desktop team has 100% control over the new installer, we have zero control except some customizations.00:02
RjGI used virtual box's UEFI mode and TPM v2.0 00:02
EickmeyerYeah, that's not going to matter.00:02
EickmeyerI reported it already, they know.00:02
EickmeyerLogs, everything.00:03
RjGone that I wold like to see cause its not that easy to get it to work is to have a secondary disk used as an encrypted swap.00:03
EickmeyerI can't make any promises as I'm not developing the new installer nor do I have any input.00:03
EickmeyerIt's... a sore subject.00:04
RjGeven a tool to convert a swap partition to an automounting encrypted swap...00:04
EickmeyerHonestly, that's not too hard to do with encrypted LVM in the first place.00:05
EickmeyerWe'll have to wait and see what's implemented. Feature freeze is in a week.00:06
RjGthe automount part I haven't got to work :( I think I am missing something..00:06
EickmeyerAutomount is always in /etc/fstab00:06
RjGI have my swap on a spinning disk drive with the main system on a sonlid state.00:06
RjGI have been attempting to do that through editing the fstab then reload but its not automounting :(00:07
RjGI have to unlock then mount after the sytem is up.00:08
EickmeyerHmm... yeah, I've never attempted on a second disk. Try asking in #ubuntu and see if someone might have an idea.00:08
RjGI did it that way cause I have 128 gig swap...00:09
EickmeyerHow much RAM?00:09
RjG64 gig00:09
EickmeyerAh. Yeah, same here, and I don't even use swap. Honestly, if you're doing audio work, you want to avoid using swap.00:10
RjGI also do home video editing...00:10
EickmeyerAh yeah. I do too, but haven't hit 64GB ever.00:10
RjGI actually hit 108 gig used when I had 32 gig of ram.00:11
EickmeyerThat makes sense, actually, because swap usage doesn't necessarily equate to what would be physical RAM usage.00:12
RjGfound out the main reason for it was the editor had a memory leak :( that was later patched.  00:12
EickmeyerYep, that would definitely be a good reason.00:13
EickmeyerEither way, I'd ask in #ubuntu if anybody knows how to do encrypted swap on a second disk.00:13
EickmeyerBecause, well, I certainly don't, and I'm the one paying most attention in here aside from arraybolt3 who *might* know, but idk.00:14
RjGone thing that would be nice in the installer  even for a future build is setting up encrypted with the maunal partitioner.  the guided wants to create a whole section of partitons that aren't even needed in an uefi boot as if it was a pre efi bios.00:16
RjGloaded question... is there an updated guide for 23.10 or a tool to convert an existing swap part on a secondary drive to an encrypted swap that will automount on system boot?00:20
RjGopps wrong cannel.. joined #ubuntu but didn't switch tabs00:21
EickmeyerOpe, no worries.00:34
RjGEickmeyer, there is one thing I hope the politions put up and through... require all chrombooks that are EOL a ffirmware that allows the user to totally remove the chrome OS and put a linux distro in place like the educational ubuntu flavor  < latter being much more secure, etc...00:39
EickmeyerRjG: You mean Edubuntu? 1) My wife is the flavor lead, and 2) I'm the technical lead, that channel is #edubuntu. That would be nice, but yeah, you know how that goes.00:58
RjGpulling hen's teeth is less painfull...00:58
RjGI have an old tool that I'm hunting for some old profiles to get it fully working again for editing audio and video... a conture shuttle pro... 01:00
